HASH(0x980de408) von 5 Sternen Highly Enjoyable! 2. Februar 2014

I got Mountain Hero as a freebie, but I would have gladly paid for it; it was that good!

With novellas, there are usually several things I worry about: lack of character and plot development along with the pacing of the story. Yet, rest assured that Mountain Hero does not lack in any of those department and the pacing was just perfect. Cheryl Yeko weaved a wonderful and COMPLETE story in just a little over 100 pages. I mean that's something hard to do, but she executed this story beautifully.

The characters, Jason and Michelle, were engaging and likeable. I surely wouldn't mind getting stranded in a snow storm with Jason and sharing all that body heat ;)

Overall, Mountain Hero was a highly enjoyable read. It had great writing, loveable characters, nice sexual tension and the story flowed effortlessly. I also enjoyed the bits of suspense thrown in as well. This story is a definite winner in my book. Can't wait to read more from Cheryl Yeko. She has gotten herself a new fan and reader!

I was unable to finish reading this....boring and predictable. The characters were in love within a couple hours of meeting. Unrealistic premise, and no opportunity to really connect with the characters. I would definitely pass on this one.

HASH(0x980dea38) von 5 Sternen A Short Whirlwind Romance 24. März 2014

Mountain Hero is a story ( I hesitate to call it a novel. Perhaps a novella?) by Cheryl Yeko, the audiobook narrated by Alan Taylor. Taylor narrates the story of Michelle, a young woman who has run away from her wedding after finding her fiance cheating on her with her best friend. Better make that ex best friend. In her state of anger, she decides to head to a mountain cabin. In the middle of a snowstorm. Not the best idea, but she’s angry and hurt, so we’ll let it slide.

Jason, a firefighter on his way home from work, sees an abandoned car on the road, and soon discovers Michelle in a dangerous situation. It then becomes his job to save her and make sure that they both make it through this snow storm alive.

I liked Michelle as a protagonist for the most part. She’s pretty feisty, which is nice. Jason does ultimately have to save her, but she at least makes an attempt to put up a fight, so she’s not a completely useless damsel in distress type character. I do feel bad about the whole cheating fiance situation, but it’s hard to feel bad for her when she doesn’t seem that upset about it herself. Like, she drives through a snowstorm in an angry haze, but she doesn’t really seem to care that much about it. I pitied the fact that she has a super protective older brother more than I pitied the fact that she had been cheated on, because that honestly seemed to bother her more.

Things that bothered me about Michelle: I understand that you have just been cheated on, and that you have now been rescued by a super-hot firefighter (who wouldn’t want to be rescued by a sexy firefighter?) but for crying out loud there are more important things going on right now than getting into his pants. Like, trying to survive out in the middle of a snowstorm with your soaking wet clothes. This is always one of my pet peeves in situations like this. It’s like the horror movie situation when there’s a killer going around and there is always that one couple that can’t keep it in their pants. You know what always happens to those people in horror movies? THEY DIE. So, that kind of bothered me.

Jason was a pretty stereotypical character for me. He’s a firefighter. He literally saves people for a living. So of course he’s going to find the helpless woman on the side of the road and save her. But he was a really good guy. And he was smart, and knew what to do in a snowstorm, which is always a plus. And, although he was very attracted to Michelle, he tried to show some restraint, which I really liked!

Things that bothered me about Jason: He acted overly familiar. He would call Michelle “Sweetheart” and “Honey” and I realized he just saved her, but he’s only known her a few hours and it just seemed really patronizing to me.

The fact that the audiobook was being narrated by a man threw me. He didn’t do a bad job necessarily, but it kind of fell flat for me.

Overall I’m giving Mountain Hero 4 out of 5 controllers. If you’re looking for a quick read, and a whirlwind romance, Mountain Hero is a good bet. If you’re looking for something a little longer with a little more character development, I would look elsewhere.

I just finished Cheryl Yeko's most recent book Mountain Hero and I couldn't put it down. I couldn't believe it when I came to the end because I wanted more from Michele and Jason. Two lost souls finding each other in a time in their life that they needed each other. The suspense of Michele being manhandled by thugs kept me turning the pages. Michele's brother added flavor to the story. Who wouldn't want a brother thinking no guy was good enough for his sister? Great, fun, exciting book. Keep writing them Cheryl so we can keep reading them!
