California is motorcycle heaven for motorcyclists. With its year-round riding, superb routes through mountains, coasts, deserts, grand forests, and an enthusiastic and supportive motorcycle scene, it's easy to see why. In this updated and expanded new edition, Clement Salvadori, one of motorcycling's most popular journalists, guides you along some of the lesser-known motorcycling gems in California, as well as pointing the way to the unspoiled places of Mexico's Baja peninsula. Routes are often clustered around base camps which means you can leave your luggage and explore an area unencumbered for several days. The book is filled with detailed maps, photographs, easy-to-follow directions, and tips on where to stay and what to see. Some of the best trips include: The Central Coast and Big Sur Highway, San Francisco and the Bay Area, Lassen National Park and the Northern Sierra Nevadas, Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks, Death Valley, Palm Springs, Julian and Eastern San Diego County, and of course, the fabulous Baja California.

GREAT TRIP PLANNER!!
This book was essential. With the routes right there in black and white, restaurant reviews, hotel advice, road challenges a rider may face, etc..this book more than paid for itself by saving us time and money!
First, in NoCal (particularly on the coastline) there are very few, I repeat very few road signs. So while his off the highway ventures, which I very much wanted to explore, sounded like great rides I was unable to find most of them. Even the locals admitted the paucity of signage. And the signs that existed were small and well hidden. Had he mentioned that I would have slowed when approaching his 'good" spots.
Two: It would have helped if the author had noted than NoCal coast in August is cold, wet, foggy and slippery. The roads could be a lot more fun when dry and visible. Inland was fine, save for the fact that we went from 50 degrees to 95 once we crossed into the valleys.
