Montana Rising is a mild-mannered--okay not mild, but at least well-mannered--teacher by day, avid Scrabble player by early evening, and fast asleep by 10pm. Unless she's up writing a fantastical story using all the words played in a particularly good Scrabble game. But after her granddaughter brings home a frightened friend, Monti's story starts reading more like a crime drama than a romantic comedy. How will she write her Scrabble story to a satisfying "Happily Ever After" conclusion? And how can she get her sweet life back when the situation is spiraling out of control? Wordplay is the first volume of the Montana Rising series.
LeeAnn Bonds was raised an Air Force brat, and married an Army brat who couldn't give up the nomad life. They did settle in north Idaho for a time to raise their children, whom LeeAnn homeschooled all the way into college. The kids are grown, and she and her husband have flown the empty nest and returned to the wandering life. They currently live on Saipan, in the Northern Mariana Islands, where she's learning to love heat and humidity to a greater degree than she ever thought possible. LeeAnn has been writing since she discovered that telling stories was as much fun as reading them. She's written innumerable obscure online pieces, and has had published one short story and several magazine articles. She writes to encourage women to persevere through difficulties, and live a joyful life of faith, hope and love. Montana Rising, Wordplay is her first novel (not counting the inevitable first first novel which will likely never escape from her hard drive).

I highly recommend this book. The story of Kit and Montana Rising is inspiring. Despite personal pain and heartbreak they make themselves available to help others. Their granddaughter, Noelle, feels the same way and when she brings home Jenny, who is in trouble, they have no idea of how much trouble is going to follow them. Interwoven within the book is an additional story, taken from words played in a Scrabble game. The story of Bo and Anisette is lovely and tragic. Well worth reading.

Great read. Could not put it down. Drew me in immediately. I would definitely recommend this book to my friends. I believe young readers would certainly enjoy this one. Mystery, true love and above all the message of faith and how it overcomes hard times in our lives.

Cindy here. Reading Montana Rising was a lot of fun. The book was written very creatively with two interesting story lines...totally unrelated, but running simultaneously. The characters are refreshingly "down to earth". Kit and Montana are an early-retirement age couple (but not retired) who have a great marriage that they have built from years of loyalty to each other. They have real and painful issues, yet they deal with life with a sincere faith in Jesus Christ. They continue to serve and build relationships with their family and searching-for-answers young people around them, rather than just "resting on their laurels", so to speak. They do this with laughter, tears, puns, Scrabble fun, hugs, lots of good food, hard work, faith, difficulties, joy, and more.
Believable & likable people. I want to read more about Monti!

I loved that the protagonist was my age with a very real life. I loved the story within the story (Bo & Anisette). As a life-long Scrabble player, I loved the Scrabble theme. I loved the details between the main characters, how they moved around the kitchen together. I giggled at the puns. I felt for them with every trial. I mourned & I rejoiced with them. Totally believable people. Completely likable people! A very refreshing read!

Highly recommend this book! From to cover to cover these stories are beautifully and intuitively crafted. A refreshing addition to Christian literature, Montana Rising, Wordplay stays true to the human experience while speaking sweet truth to its readers. You will fall in love with Kit and Monty’s love for each other, weep for Bo and Anisette and stay on the edge of your seat as life throws some serious curve balls at both couples. You won’t be able to put it down!
