I really love this app. I have a pretty good ear for languages, but some sounds like chu vs qu are a little hard to distinguish. This really helps you to hear Chinese more accurately.
I'm giving this 4 stars and not 5 because I really wish that you could choose which "initial sounds" you wanted to practice with. This would make it easier to focus on the sounds you have trouble with. I wish I could focus exclusively on CH / Q / J / SH / X. Most of the time I can distinguish these its only with certain vowel combinations that are hard. Currently I just have to keep going through the random list to wait for them to hear.

One of the most challenging parts of learning Chinese is to be able to differentiate the various tones that are used in pronouncing the words correctly. This is essential in correctly understanding what is being said. In addition you have to learn how to correctly create sounds of initials and finals that constitute a word. Some of the sounds you will make are not part of our normal speech patterns and tongue, teeth, lips, etc will all have to realigned in order to recreate the sound. It is a challenging language but this application is an invaluable tool in practicing Mandarin.
