This book is a further piece of a broader picture that is called ACT. It gently exposes the reader to the core principles of ACT and is activating by applyling a multitude of exercises. These include the central factors of ACT:
1) acceptance / mindfulness of one's situation, not to be confused with giving up or some sort of fatalism
2) defusion: take a step back from your thoughts: they are not you
3) getting in contact with the present moment, rather than pondering the past and the future
4) defining valued directions: live up to what is truly important for you
5) take action: choose what you want to do (with your life)
6) don't define yourself along your history of troubles - there is more about you
Thus it truly deserves the subtitle of a workbook. It is a highly recommendable read for people suffering from depression and therapists and counsellors alike.
