Synopsis

With his father dead, Martyn has a choice. Tell the police what happened - and be suspected of murder. Or get rid of the body and get on with the rest of his life. Simple, right? Not quite. One story leads to another. Secrets and lies become darker and crazier. And Martyn is faced with twists and turns that leave him reeling. Life is never easy. But death is even harder.

Spitzen Buch!
Sehr zu empfehlen!

If somebody would ask me:"Which book would you read twice?" Well, you guessed right! "Martyn Pig", of course!
At first, I thought it wouldn't be that interesting because I had to read it at school. Then I totally got addicted to it.
But let me start explaining the book:
The whole book is about a 14-year-old boy called Martyn, whose father is a drunkard and not caring anything for his son. But one time as his father is heavyly drunken, he accidently fell onto the fireplace and died. As the time passed by, Martyn is unsure to tell the accident to the police and searches for help from his best friend Alex. But then for sure they get involved in difficult situations, like blackmail.
But if you want to know, how they find a solution, you have to read the story...
I can only recommend this novel, because it will keep you awake for many nights. It's one of the best english books I've ever read. Not just because it is educating in therms like alcohol, it also combines many different topics like crime, drama and romance.
And if the newspaper "Independent" says that it could become a cult novel, I would even go one step further and replace the "could" with a "will"!
So far, get it bought and get addicted, too. :)

We read the novel Martyn Pig in our English lessons and I think it's no high-class book, but for a school reading it was quite interesting. First of all I don't like the beginning because William Pig's death was indeed an accident and Martyn could have gone to the police. But then the book gets better and better, one highlight is the scene where Aunt Jean comes to visit Martyn and he dresses up his father and puts the corpse into bed so she thinks he's just ill. In this scene you can see the typical English black humor very good and so an originally serious scene gets very funny.
All in all I expected the novel not to be very interesting, but Martyn Pig got more and more interesting in the course of the book. I would not recommend it as a book for home reading but in school it's good.

aufgrund der Beschreibung klingt das Buch sehr lustig, aber weit gefehlt...
Ich fand, dass es kaum Spannung gab und leider sehr selten lustig war. Daher nicht wirklich empfehlenswert.

I read this book back when I was in 7th grade and really enjoyed it. From what I remember it still seems like a great concept so I figured I would give it a read through again (being 22 now)

Kevin Brooks is a highly praised children's author and I read this book because a young friend was reading it for GCSE English Literature. My 16 year old friend said he found it depressing and I regret to say that I agreed with him. HOWEVER this maybe because the story centres on the disposal of the body of a dead father and spares very little physical detail. My friend lost his father a year ago and I know I won't ever forget the sight of a much loved body from which the life has gone. This may have skewed both his and my reading. The father in the story is not an attractive character and perhaps it's a tribute to Kevin Brooks's writing that we disliked the descriptions so much. I did wonder, however, what it was doing on an exam syllabus.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Martyn Pig 19. Juni 2003
Von Tom Carradice-French - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
Martyn Pig is swimming in an unbearable life. It's not enough that the kids at school make pork jokes, he has to come home afterwards and deal with his alcoholic father and the fact that his mother left years ago. There's his awful Aunty Jean, who is out to try to prove that Martyn's father is unfit and to get Martyn to live with her. To add insult to injury, he has a crush on his neighbor, Alex, who's dating a real creep named Dean. Things can't get any worse, right?
The week before Christmas, Martyn's father dies accidentally. Martyn could go to the police, but he also knows there's a good chance the police will accuse him of committing foul play. On the other hand, he can't just leave the body there to rot. He ends up conspiring with Alex to hide the body, which leads to even more deception, confusion, and intrigue.
Mystery fans will welcome this first offering from British author Kevin Brooks. Martyn is believable as the unwilling introspective loner, but by far the most interesting character is Alex, who shields her true self from Martyn and consequently the reader. The one complaint is that this book seems to have been unsuccessfully doctored to make it "understandable" to Americans. The conversations are filled with British phrases like "bloody awful," but money is discussed in terms of dollars rather than pounds. Overlooking these inconsistencies, Martyn Pig is sure to appeal to those interested in eliminating the impossible, looking over the improbable remains and finding the truth.

4.0 von 5 Sternen The Martyn Pig Story 3. November 2006

My book is about a young teenager that lost his mom when he was a young boy. And his dad is an alcoholic and does not like his son. He makes Martyn do everything for him like run to the store to go get stuff for Christmas he isn't very nice. But Martyns father does end up dieing in an accident, and his son realizes that now he can make his own choices. My review!

In my book they used a lot of interesting words some of the words but some of the words were not very nice words but the reason why I think they did that is because they want to express there feelings about things. The author did use some extensive words in the book. I thought the author was pretty good at being disruptive in his book he used a lot of juicy words throughout the whole book I thought it was excellent. So some things that happened in this book are Martyn ended up being the one to kill his father on an accident. . And didn't know wither to get fid of the body or to tell his aunt jean what happened. Well at the end of the story his aunt jean found out and he had to pay a fine on 60,000 and got put in a juvenile home! His aunt jean couldn't believe what he did!!
