After suffering a heart attack the day after my first car accident at the tender age of 41, I committed to publishing a book. Just a few months into my recovery I published a hilarious collection of short stories, poems and pictures from my soccer life entitled, A SOCCER LIFE IN SHORTS.
During my recovery I wrote poetry as a theraputic means to take my mind off of the massive anxieties I was suffering from as I expected to have another heart attack. A few months later I published a collection of 100 poems entitled THE WORLD NEEDS MORE BELLY RUBS (read it, there is a story behind the title).
Six months into my recovery I took a stress test, passed with flying colors and learned to trust my body again. I dug deep into my notes and went back to work rewriting THE GIFT OF STOPPAGE TIME. After a few months of brutal editing (all editing is brutal in my opinion...but very necessary!) I published my first full-blown novel.
In ten months I had published three books...what a relief! I did not want to be that guy who has great ideas and simply leaves them on the computer. I continue to write every day and love it. I love losing myself in my stories and living with my characters throughout their lives.
After my heart attack I realized that it is vital to enjoy life. In order to continue to do that I write, play soccer, surf, hike, bike, take tai-chi and get involved in any activity that is fun and works my heart. I love receiving feedback from my readers, so feel free to let me know what you think of my stories!
My work has been featured in 90:00 Soccer Magazine, Soccer365.com, Goal.com, Yahoo Sports and in Manchester United's Matchday Program.
I have personally been featured in 202 Magazine, Veritas Magazine, the Arizona Republic, AYSO's Soccer Now Magazine and San Pedro Weekly. I am also a regular guest on Marcelo Balboa's radio show FROM THE PITCH. I write daily at my blog www.markvincentlincir.com
