Mit entsprechendem Material und Anleitungen wäre das Anfertigen mancher Schmuckstücke möglich. Ist aber, wie gesagt, nicht vorgesehen. Eigentlich schade. Trotzdem ein sehr schönes Buch!
Kunstwerke anzusehen. Man kann es immer wieder anschauen .

Beaders of all skill levels will find inspiration here, and intermediate to advanced beaders will find much to study and deconstruct.
Inside this gorgeous book you’ll get to know 30 internationally known beading artists working in a wide range of styles. The book is divided into sections by artist and includes a brief profile along with a casual question and answer interview that gives the reader a fascinating glimpse into their inspirations, techniques, influences, processes and motivations. Each interview is accompanied by a photographic showcase of six to twelve pieces of the artists work that includes full views and detail shots. All of the photography in this book is masterfully done on neutral backgrounds without any annoying props that distract the eye which allows the reader clearly see the details and textures of the jewelry.
Although I don’t want to detract from the interesting and engaging interviews, I just can’t say enough about the eye candy that grace the pages of this book. Thanks to the excellent photography that allows you to see the colors, textures and shapes of the pieces even if you’re not a beader you’ll find inspiration in the pages of this book.
As she herself is a breath of fresh air in the beading world, it becomes a wondrous unfurling.
It is almost like experiencing buds in Spring growing and then bursting into bloom, to read
these interviews and then as well to view the work and art. When the author is drawing out each of the seed beaders being interviewed, you are illuminated. Finally when you have read each contributing interview and looked at the gallery, it is all you can do not to start over, right away! There is so much to see and learn here! What an amazing and extraordinarily moving bouquet of beauty!
One look at the glorious cover of this book, and you note instantly that there is so much promised to be marveled at concerning seed beading and weaving.
In the introduction, Ms. DeCoster says, "This book has grown out of my continuing amazement over the remarkable associations and connections being formed among the worldwide beading community."
She continues on and as she does, you see and understand that this community is huge and yet intimate. As such, it is a perfect example of a thriving art and friendship connection via the Internet. As Ms. DeCoster calls it, it is the "incredibly supportive online beading community." There is love and warmth here as well as creativity on exhibit in MARCIA DECOSTER PRESENTS.
She then goes on to explain how the book works. Each beader she has chosen will be interviewed with questions such as ones concerning the "directions the artist would like to explore", materials and techniques they like and, perhaps best of all, a special question which is unique to each beader being interviewed. The book is packed and packed with stunning photos! Wow!
Only Marcia DeCoster, with her unique generosity of spirit, along with her famously innovative and spectacular work, can fulfill the requirement of being the perfect interviewer/friend/person to share with these artists their thoughts, and to gather their responses so mindfully and excitingly. Her name is almost synonymous with "seed bead". In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if she had a secret middle name and it IS "Seed Beed".
She is cool, she is hip, and she has everything it takes to get the core story on each of the great beaders in this book, MARCIA DECOSTER PRESENTS .
To read the list of contributing beaders is a delight in itself. Here it is:
Heather Kingsley Heath
Riana Bootha Olckers
Cynthia Newcomer Daniel
Linda L. Jones
Gabriella van Diepen
The author comments at times on what she likes about the artist who is being interviewed, which gives further helpful insight. The book is set up so that the reader is greeted with each artist's photo on the top of the page to the left, and sidebars running on the edges of each page. The photos of the beautiful jewelry are front and center, with identifying explanations below each.
The artist being interviewed has his or her name in large print and a quote which has been selected from the interview, below the artist's name.
For example, Riana Bootha Olckers, who lives in South Africa, has her photo and website/contact info on the left side bar, her name and her "quote" on the page near her photo, further questions and
7 photos of her work adorning her pages.
Rhiana says in her highlighted quote: "Beading is a part of my being, and I plan to always design patterns to share with other beadweaving enthusiasts."
You will love her INCREDIBLE style which ranges from royal to ethnic.
There is a beautiful section on Linda L. Jones, who meant the world to so many people. She has passed away, but her interview and work are buoyant and lively. Ever vivacious in this book, she worked free form, which is a style with this reviewer adores when it is done well. It certainly is done well by the beloved Ms. Jones. It is no wonder she has so many fans and the interview is great!
Her quote is as follows," I love the meditative aspect of simply doing the beadwork and mastering new stitches. I think of beadwork as meditation."
The colors and the light play which you see in her work is eternally fascinating and beautiful. I am so glad to see her, here.
As the author comments, "Linda's work exhibits a masterful use of vibrant color and shows her willingness to explore unexpected media".
The earrings, cuffs, necklaces, collars, and bracelets which adorn these pages are, each and every one,
more beautiful than the next. It is to be noted that the intention of this book is not to teach actual projects, but to show artists and how they create, so that the reader may be inspired to go forth and create as well. You will not get a primer on the mechanics of beading. Instead you get a panoply of startlingly varied, perfectly executed, knockout beauty.
Ask yourself some of the questions the author asks for some self illumination. "Where do you find your design insights?" for example."How do different materials interact in your work?" "What emotions do you want to generate in folks who see your pieces?". "Do you have a goal you want to achieve with your art?"
Do you, the reader, see how action oriented this book, MARCIA DECOSTER PRESENTS, can be for you? Despite the fact it is not a how to book, but a "why" book, it is invaluable in presenting a distillation of experience and intention in one major, moving and insightful package.
Beading is many things to many artists. In this collection of interviews and photos, the reader's mind is cleared. The reader becomes ready for take off with all systems on go.
To quote one of the artists interviewed about the importance of why we love jewelry,
"Jewelry has a purpose beyond viewing. It is art, but you can fondle it, wear it, and enjoy it...
It's tactile, it warms to your touch, and becomes a temporary extension of you." --Kinga Nichols
Marcia DeCoster has made a great contribution to beading with this marvelous book. At the very end, you will be fortunate to see some of her very own lovely pieces, so make sure you save room for all of the beauty she herself has to offer.
A five star jewelry book,
MARCIA DECOSTER PRESENTS
Interviews with 30 Beaders on Inspiration and Technique
would also be an awesome text book for eager art and design students.
Example questions that are asked about the Internet and social media and how it relates to the beaders:
-How have your online relationships influenced you? Changed your work in any way?
-What can you tell us about he importance of online relationships?
-Does the Internet affect your bead art? Play a role in your bead art?
-How do beading and the Internet come together in your life?
For some, they went to the Internet to either source a product they couldn't find elsewhere, or they went to connect with people they looked up to. But for many, if not all, whatever reason they started online it morphed into a direct way to connect to many people all over the world and discover or teach a new technique that would have been impossible to do so otherwise, simply from logistics.
They even turn to Google Images and literature for inspiration. From designer Marsha Wiest-Hines:
"I am fond of the photography found in Google Images because it answers questions: What does wisteria look like? How is the structure of a lilac leaf different from a maple leaf? What are the phases of the moon? And literature provides a catalyst for me as well, because the joy of analysis and interpretation of character is firmly lodged in costume designers' souls."
Photography is bright and clear, and the choices of the pieces from artist truly represent their best works.
