Harvey Mackay has done it again. Unparalleled wisdom from a superstar salesman. Pertinent to today's marketplace. Practical strategies. Precise tactics. Pivotal in its career impact!

Just like his previous books, this book has bestseller written all over it.

But let me get more specific here: I opened my advance copy of the book, expecting to find selling strategies and tactics that I could pass on to my staff. But once I got past the Introduction (where he identifies 11 characteristics of superstar salespeople--an invaluable list itself if you find yourself frequently making hiring mistakes), I discovered that the book is much broader than sales.

Consider this a manual of must-do's for managing your business and your life. It's about managing your motivation, your employees, your customers, your business culture, and your overall success. That's not to say the book does not have specifics. For example, you will find specific practical ideas on up-to-the-minute selling with social media tools. The illustrations draw on years of personal experience--his own and those of superstars he's hired, groomed, and mentored in many walks of life.

But there's so much more here: Insightful anecdotes. Motivational quotations (which the author calls "Fortune Cookies"). Mackay's Morals (pithy summaries of key principles). Hilarious cartoons (my favorites).

This book is definitely Harvey Mackay at his best.

I admit to being a Harvey Mackay fan. I love all of his books, especially "Swim With the Sharks Without Being Eaten Alive." I now may have a new favorite. The "Mackay MBA" is full of ideas and strategies on selling, marketing, branding and service. If you are involved in any type of sales or marketing, you will enjoy this book. Whenever I buy a business book I hope for just one idea that I can use. When I find that idea, it is a tremendous return on my investment (both the cost of the book and the time to read it). You should be able to find at least a dozen - or more - great ideas from Harvey Mackay's latest book.

I rarely write reviews, but I felt compelled to after reading this book. Let me first say that I think very highly of Harvey. I loved Swim With The Sharks and very much enjoy his weekly column.

Looking for a new book on sales, I was delighted to stumble upon this one. Seeing that it had received largely positive reviews, I took the plunge.

What a disappointment. Harvey absolutely mailed this one in. First, if you're looking for sales insights, you won't find them here. Try Zig's Secrets of Closing the Sale instead. I have no earthly idea how "MBA of Selling" is included in the title. The book is not about sales...it's not about anything really. It's a random collection of stories, quotes, blog posts, and interviews with "experts" you've never heard of. It's reminiscent of the old Seinfeld episode where J. Peterman buys a bunch of Kramer's stories and has Elaine try to turn them into a book.

Much of the book doesn't even read as though it was written by Harvey. For me, the worst parts were the chapters on social media, where Harvey, his ghost writer, or one of his "experts" would rattle off the virtues of Twitter, Facebook, etc. They could not possibly have come across as more inauthentic. Harvey is pushing 80 for crying out loud!

Don't waste your time or money on this one...just reread Swim With The Sharks.

Don't let the title turn you off - there are lessons in this book for everyone, no matter your profession. Selling in the real world is something we're all doing even if you're not in "sales." Harvey Mackay's latest book is an approachable, easy to read guide on how to manage your career and professional growth. Rather than writing a dry, how-to manual, Mackay utilizes a conversational tone throughout the book that entices you to read more. Among the nuggets of sound advice are amusing stories and anecdotes that keep the tone light. The lessons contained in each chapter are practical steps that you can take to move forward in your current job and to lay the groundwork for the job you'd like to have in the future. One piece of advice I plan to remind myself of: "Life is series of opportunities. The often neglected fact of life is that opportunities multiply as you take advantage of them."
