One thing Liam Turner knows for sure is that he's not gay—after all, his father makes it very clear he’ll allow no son of his to be gay. And Liam believes it, until a chance meeting with James “Jay” Bell turns Liam’s world upside-down. Jay is vivacious and unabashedly gay—from the tips of his bleached hair to the ends of his polished nails. With a flair for fashion, overreaction, and an inability to cork his verbal diarrhea, Liam believes drama queen Jay must have a screw loose.

An accident as a teenager left Liam with a limp and a fear of driving. He can’t play football anymore either, and that makes him feel like less of a man. But that’s no reason to question his sexuality... unless the accident broke something else inside him. When being with Jay causes Liam’s protective instincts to emerge, Liam starts to believe all he knew in life had been a convenient excuse to stay hidden. From intolerance to confrontations, Liam must learn to overcome his fears—and his father—before he can accept his sexuality and truly love Jay.

Okaaaay - this is a 100% feel-good, laugh and smile book.
Yep, and for that it gets 5 stars.

Yes, I love Jay. He is a rambling, verbal-dirrahea, shiny, colorful, flamboyant, tasteful and loving person. He is a sunshine.

And I couldn't help but love Liam, too. He is the proper one, the correct and steadfast one, the protector.

But not only has this book two very loveable MCs, there are interesting enough sidecharacters, too.

And now comes the best: it is funny, witty and well written. It is "real", the dialogues sound genuine (if you are able to embrace Jay's verbal outpourings), the reactions are believable. For example...Liam isn't out, in the beginning he still tries to convince himself he isn't even gay (there is a sarcastic undertone in his constant repetition of "I'm not gay.") When he finally hooks up with Jay, there isn't the big "you have to be out for me - request", no, Jay understands and is okay with baby steps. I liked that a lot.

Yes, I really enjoyed reading this one.

HASH(0x9f4d5930) von 5 Sternen He felt like half a man until he turned gay and met his other half. 27. April 2014

Liam is quiet but a blokey bloke in his own way. His Dad is a 'typical' Aussie male who states no son of his will be gay. Liam isn't sure what he is, straight, gay or bisexual. He has had encounters with men and women and it has been ok, but not soul shattering. On his train every morning is Jay who is obviously gay and very flamboyant. One reason Liam looks forward to getting up to catch the train at 5.20am is to see what Jay is wearing and what his makeup is like and his general appearance every day. He doesn't have the courage to approach him, and he is confused if this makes him gay. Liam misses the train one day and so does Jay, they have coffee together waiting for the next train and now they have a coffee thing - every day one will buy the coffee. Liam even orders the frou-frou coffee Jay likes. They become friends - Liam becomes the superhero in Jay's life when he saves him from a gay bashing. Liam confesses he is looking at his options (his sexual options) and then it is all on!
Both men come from loving families and while Jay never had to come out because it was obvious he was gay (instead he had to learn not everyone was) Liam is not decided, not out and totally into Jay. How to tell the family?
This is such a well written story. You get depth and humour, you get strong clear characters and their environment. It is an exercise in total immersion in Liam and Jay's developing relationship and the journey is enjoyable. I didn't want the book to end, I wanted to see their life as a couple living together develop - not because I was disappointed in the length of the book or the ending but because I was so captured. Liam is Jay's superhero because he saves him from danger, spite and prejudice - but Jay saved Liam from being half a man. Give yourself a treat and meet Liam and Jay - be prepared to laugh.

Well this was a spectacular read. I've a new author to add to my ever lengthening list of favorite authors. Life of a book nerd , I'll tell ya, it ain't easy. So many brilliantly written books and so little time. (Damn the human life span.)

This is a story of self discovering, love, and acceptance. The writing was completely on point. It was hilarious when it needed to be funny. Cute when it needed to be. Beautiful basically with each sentence. I'm not exaggerating.

The story is told in the perspective of William "Liam" Turner. I love Liam. His inner monologues about how he's trying to decipher the code of his attraction to James "Jay" was perfection. Liam isn't straight. He tried to fool himself. He tried to deny. He even date a few girls. One of them ended married and having the child of his brother, but that's neither here nor there, because Jay , beautiful Jay, has caught the attention of Mr. Turner.

It's not until Liam misses his train that the two finally get to interact. The moment Liam converses with Jay he knows that this attraction that he feels for him , isn't going to go away. It's here to stay. Jay is such an endearing character, his little tirades are actually quite adorable. The fact that he can't shut up entirely , he's always talking is beyond adorable. Then bashers target and hurt Jay and in comes the noble knight Liam (also a woman who knows how to handle her purse and a rather strong elderly man) to his defense. From that moment their attraction turns to more into a romance, and Liam has to deal with "coming out" , his bigoted father, and being in a relationship.

I love this book. Loved this story. The fact that one of Liam's brothers ends up with one of Jay's sisters was an added bonus too. I kind of , most definitely want to read about Chan's (forgot his name--- Liam's co-worker) brother. He sounds like a pretty damn good character . I just want more is all.

You should definitely check out "The Blinding Light" , that was phenomenal.

By the second paragraph, I knew I was in good hands. Average guy Liam and sparkly Jay/Jamie/James and their journey to HEA kept me engrossed.

*Confident, polished writing (and good editing too!).

*Great pacing and plotting. At no point did any action feel rushed or out of place. No instaluv!

*Convincing characters. Every character - major, minor, walk-on - rang true.

*Believable conflicts, believable resolutions.

*Humor! I laughed all the way through but needed a hanky sometimes too. A cathartic read.

When I reached the end I started it all over again, and I do that once, maybe twice a year tops.

Love love love this book! Both the boys are beautiful and well suited to each other...Jay especially is gorgeous and so funny and so true to himself..a lesson to all of us to love who we are!
The Perth setting is good to read a great story from an Aussie author and hopefully the overseas readers will get a laugh at some of our Australian euphemisms. I am .looking forward to reading more from Renae Kaye

I really loved this book! The writing was straight forward, the characters relatable and the story realistic.
And it certainly didn't hurt that it was set in my area of my home city, Perth Western Australia.
I know the area that Liam lives in, I travel the same train line that a large part of the story occurred on and I even support the same footy team [Go the Dockers!]. So these every day details gave the story so much more meaning to me.
A very enjoyable read that I have already re-read a few times!
