absolut nützliche Tipps um Washington D.C. zu Fuß und per Metro zu erkunden.
Ich kann nur immer wieder sagen, es gibt keine besseren Reiseführer.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Indispensable travel guide for planning a first trip to DC 10. April 2013
Von Erik Gfesser - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
This travel guide was indispensable in planning for a first trip to Washington DC a couple weeks ago. The week-long itinerary I put together based on this book was largely followed, with a few exceptions that were mainly due to weather, so I heartily recommend this very recently published (December 2012) book to anyone in a similar situation. After providing an overview of the top-10 places to visit, the author provides a 1-page summary of recent changes in this destination (such as the expanded Georgetown Waterfront Park, which was a favorite daily visit of mine during my morning runs), followed by some need-to-know tips, recommended itineraries for a hypothetical 4-day visit as well as recommended activities based on personal interest, a month-by-month goings-on (such as the Cherry Blossom Festival in late-March and early-April), and a survey of free activities and tips and recommendations for areas such as eating, shopping, and families. As a Chicago native, the section on Washington DC neighborhoods was the section of this book that I valued most. This "Explore Washington DC" section consumes about 50% of the content the authors provide, covering the National Mall, White House Area and Foggy Bottom, Georgetown, Capitol Hill and Southeast DC, Downtown and Penn Quarter, Dupont Circle and Kalorama, Adams-Morgan, U Street, Columbia Heights, and Northeast DC, Upper Northwest DC, as well as Northern Virginia.

The remainder of this book provides a high-level presentation of areas such as history, architecture, and politics, as well as a brief section on transportation. But as brief as it might be, the transportation section was the second most personally valued portion of the book, accurately making me aware for example of the convenience of the Metro subway and the ability to connect to Union Station in order to plan a trip to Baltimore, Maryland to visit the National Aquarium which also has a small counterpart in Washington DC. Unfortunately, one of the very few items that were inaccurately reported for such a recently published travel guide was the price of the National Aquarium, which increased $5 per ticket for both adults and children, and there was no mention with regard to quantity of visitors. The book mentions that the National Air & Space Museum is the top draw, with the National Museum of Natural History as the second largest draw, but the amount of visitors that the National Aquarium draws is apparently disproportionate to its size, so entry waiting times were high. Also, be aware that the sleeping section of this travel guide is a mere 14-pages, so you will likely need to consult the abundant websites that exist on the subject. My accommodations, for example, were listed in the top-10 on TripAdvisor, but are surprisingly not in this travel guide. Despite these minor flaws, very well recommended.

4.0 von 5 Sternen All the somewhat experienced traveller needs! 26. April 2013

This guidebook is excellent - up to date and accurate and elaborates just so much that you can read it while sightseeing and still get god in-depth information.
Free activities (there are plenty in DC!) are clearly marked, which is great!
It's a bit of a hassle turning the pages back and forth between the map and the information, and the front pages where the top sights are. Also, there is no Metro map (or I just couldn't find it), which is why it loses one star.
The walks it proposes are of a perfect length and the Lonely Planet guides in general give a much less commercial or touristy feeling.
Buy this guide if you're buying any!

I have always used the Lonely Planet guides and this one did not disappoint. Not only do they give you the obvious historic landmarks, they give you some unknown history as well. They also write they guide for many different options...what you're feeling that day, what kind of adventures you want, if you want to learn, want to sight-see, etc... They've got it all covered and the price here can't be beat!!!
4.0 von 5 Sternen Good for locals 4. Februar 2015

I live in DC and purchased this book to hit sites I have not been to. The monuments and museum section was excellent. I'm holding off on the higher ratings because the couple restaurants I tried were not very good and the hours were way wrong.

I have been using Lonely Planet books for travel both in the U.S. and Europe and they never fail to disappoint. This one is particularly detailed and useful for everything from monuments to bars and traveling around. I recommend it for any travelers.
