Das Buch ist absolut zu empfehlen: es ist eine überzeugende, sehr motivierende und erfolgversprechende Anleitung zur Umstellung seines Lebensstils und eine umfassende und durchdachte Ernährungslehre. Das gesamte Konzept der Umstellung des Alltagsverhaltens und der Ernährung zurück zu den natürlichen Ursprüngen ist shr gut nachzuvollziehen und leicht leicht umzusetzen. Klasse.

The basic message of the diet could be possible although at times seems far fetched but the style is monotonous, tedious and repetetive to the point of being almost unreadable.

My wife has started the paleo diet, which pretty much means I'm on the paleo diet as well. We were looking for a good primer to help us get started, and this book fits the bill nicely. It is factually written, which is appreciated. No personal anecdotes or gratuitous pictures of an impossibly beautiful and happy family implying that YOU TOO can be like this if only you eat paleo (I'm looking at you, Sarah Fragoso).

The book opens with a well-written and informative description of the paleo philosophy, which does a good job explaining why exactly you're putting yourself through this. As with other Dummies books, the writing is clear and engaging. This alone is helpful because it effectively arms the reader with the information needed to exist outside of a pre-planned menu. Say, for instance, you're going out to eat with friends...all the recipes in the world won't help you, but a thorough knowledge of what paleo is trying to accomplish will, and you'll be better able to make appropriate choices when you're out in the wild.

However, it is nice to have at least a small arsenal of recipes, since when you're on paleo you'll probably be eating at home more often. This book does offer a selection of recipes, but I did deduct one star because the volume of recipes is somewhat limited. Once you get into paleo you'll probably want another recipe source.

In sum, this book is exactly what the title implies: a good introduction to the paleo diet for the lay reader. However, it also has enough detail that it would be useful beyond the introduction stage.

One of the best books in recent years on the Paleo Diet, and it deserves to be put on the shelf directly between The Paleo Solution and The Paleo Diet. This book is a fresh spring of Paleo principles, and offers gentle, but no nonsense instruction on how to live primal (and optimize your health) in a modern world. Few books on health are as well presented and readable as this one. Highly recommended.

For several months I have followed a Primal/Paleo diet and have scoured the Web for books, information, exercises and recipes to incorporate into a healthy lifestyle. Losing belly fat and gaining strength along with improved blood work were primary concerns, so my entire family switched to this lifestyle. First came Primal Blueprint by Mark Sisson, then Primal Connection followed by several cookbooks and websites devoted to the Paleo lifestyle. When I was offered the opportunity to review Living Paleo for Dummies, I ordered the book and have been reading voraciously.

First of all, let me say that as with many of the "for Dummies" books, Living Paleo is not the be all-end all in reference books but is a primer for the beginner. It defines what Paleo is: embracing the eating style of our hunter gatherer ancestors who ate meats, vegetables, and berries long before the advent of farming and the raising of grains and legumes. There are five parts to the book, the aforementioned chapter plus defining modern foods that work with your "inner Cave Man" and how to prepare to switch to this eating plan. The second part covers Paleo nutrition, modern challenges (sometimes quite challenging given how much grain and sugar and genetically modified foods sneak into our grocery store products). There is also a chapter on incorporating Paleo exercises into your life which do not require trips to a gym. Think moderate exercise, some weight-bearing and heavy lifting combined with short cardio bursts of speed. If you're new to Paleo, as most "for Dummies" readers will be, there are excellent tips on restocking your kitchen (tossing your non-Paleo foods in favor of more Paleo-friendly ones) and a primer on the most useful utensils you'll need. Part 2 ends with a 30-Day Reset to jump start your switch to better health through eating paleo.

Part Three contains - Recipes for Paleo Success which includes simple meals, one-pot cookery, everyday entrees, side dishes, snacks and treats plus seasonings. In this section you learn about the best cooking temperatures for nutrition, how to make a tasty bread-free meatloaf, creating tempting main dish salads and more. Some old favorites such as spaghetti and meatballs, tacos and lasagne are shown with Paleo modifications (spaghetti squash replaces pasta, lettuce leaves replace tortillas and zucchini strips replace pasta in the lasagna).

Part Four is titles Making Paleo Practical in a Modern World and covers how to handle potential pitfalls, what to do when traveling, how to enjoy special occasions and more.

The last part is brief but important: ten foods to always have on hand in the kitchen (cage free organic eggs - yes, you'll use a lot of eggs: for breakfasts, making almond flour breads, Paleo mayonnaise, frittatas), fruits and veggies, protein sources (grass-fed beef, sardines, pastured chickens), coconut oil and other healthy fats, coconut milk, cauliflower (substitutes for mock garlic mashed potatoes), and greens (the book suggests collard greens but I can't conjure up any enthusiasm for them so use spinach, kale and chard).

I began the book fully expecting it to be very basic, but I was surprised. A lot of useful information is packed in its 338 pages. I learned a few things not covered in the Mark Sisson book and came away favorably impressed. Living Paleo for Dummies is a worthwhile addition to your Paleo library.

Wonderful and user-friendly! What I appreciate most about this particular introduction to the Paleo Diet, is that it lays out, in simple, easy to follow instructions, a comprehensive 30-day plan to get you started eating the way you're meant to.
