Pressestimmen

“Realistic fear, heart-stopping suspense, and jolting plot twists keep one almost frantically turning pages as Bolton grabs us from the beginning and leaves us shaken at the end. Highly recommended.” ―Library Journal (starred review)

“Close-to-the-bone red herrings skillfully strewn across the detectives' paths, convincing cop-shop procedure, and perceptively drawn secondary characters help push this contemporary crime novel ahead of the pack…Bolton looks deep into the lost-soul madness of a killer and makes her vision all too horribly real.” ―Publishers Weekly (starred)

“Couple the strong narrative drive with a pair of dysfunctional but surprisingly sympathetic characters, and you have a nail-biting thriller that will send readers back to Bolton's previous books and, of course, have them lining up for whatever the author comes up with next.” ―Booklist (starred)

“Bolton is changing the face of crime fiction--if you only read one crime novel this year, make it this.” ―Tess Gerritsen on Now You See Me

“Really special: multi-layered and sophisticated, but tough too.” ―Lee Child on Now You See Me

Barney Roberts and his friends were talking about the missing boys ' boys between the ages of ten and eleven were going missing from the streets of London, the latest being twin boys. The friends were a little worried, but were happy enough within their group that they'd be safe ' it was safety in numbers, right? But their parents were more worried and their rules had become stricter ' so the friends all headed home to their families. But Barney arrived home to an empty house ' once again. His father worked back late quite often and trusted Barney to be home, have his homework done and be in bed on time.

Detective Dana Tulloch and Detective Mark Joesbury were working the case; but the intense frustration was getting to them. The horrors of finding the boys' bodies drained of blood, pale and lifeless was taking its toll on them all. There were no clues to follow, nothing to point them in the right direction. The murderer was laughing at them. And with the Missing Boys page on the Facebook site gaining popularity, the serious and the weirdos all contributing their few words, they knew they had to monitor that as well.

Barney was following the case closely ' he was an intelligent boy and was sure he could see some anomalies which stood out in his mind. And with policewoman Lacey Flint living next door to him and his father, he was sure she would be involved in the murder investigation. But Lacey was recovering from the previous case where she almost lost her life ' Mark Joesbury had been deeply involved as well ' her time now was recovery; she had no intention or desire to become involved in the latest case'

This was a brilliant psychological thriller ' another S.J. Bolton winner. I thought I had picked the killer but was shocked at the end to find out who it was ' I was way off! I have read a few Bolton thrillers now, and I have never been disappointed. Highly recommended.

I was really looking forward to the new Flint and Joesbury story and I wasn't exactly dissapointed with it. It was just not as exciting as the first installations.
I was missing the Lacy Flint and Mark Joesbury I liked so much in the first books, they seemed to have lost a little bit of their particular characteristics in the course of this story.
Nonetheless, there were twists and turns as always and a surprising end (if not as surprising as in the stories before).
All in all a good book and I am waiting for the next one to see if Sharon Bolton can come back to the level of the beginning of the series.

Like this forever fand ich sehr packend und voll
überzeugend.
Sharon Bolton kann in ihren Büchern wirklich eine starke Spannung und
fiebrig-düstere Atmosphäre erzeugen.
Und Lacey Flint ist einfach toll.
