Produktbeschreibungen

One of my first favorite christian metal band. The vocals are, as usual, very good. Although this album is more soft, I like it because they are so good and have a good message. I am very content.

Brian G.Bewertet in den USA am2. Februar 20155,0 von 5 Sternen From the first note to the last, 'Light' is a masterpiece
Veni Domine was my introduction to the beauty that is Swedish metal. Their debut, `Fall Babylon Fall,' came out in 1992, when most American artists were trying to replicate the grunge sound. As I would later learn, the grunge phenomenon was peculiarly American. Music lovers in the rest of the world might have enjoyed grunge, but they never abandoned the artists and styles that grunge misplaced here. One of those styles was melodic metal and all of its permutations, including symphonic, gothic, doom, and progressive. Veni Domine have hit upon all of those in their career. On each of their seven albums, Veni Domine explored a distinct sound while simultaneously sounding like no one else but themselves. They have been both experimental and amazingly consistent. A paradox, to be sure.
As it turned out, `Light' became their swan song. A few months after its release, they announced they were disbanding. What an album to go out with, though! From the first note to the last, 'Light' is a masterpiece. It is not their heaviest or darkest, but it is their most mature and confident. It is full of emotion, beauty, darkness, longing, and hope. As always, Veni Domine are not afraid to let a song build and breathe. The first song, "In Memoriam," for example, is a 12-minute monster, but it never feels like it's overstaying its welcome.
Songwriting credits are given to the entire band, but I suspect that the primary songwriters are the three constant members on every album: Fredrik Sjöholm (vocals), Torbjörn Weinesjö (guitars), and Thomas Weinesjö (drums). Sjöholm's voice has aged incredibly well. In fact, it doesn't sound like it's aged at all. I cannot detect any degradation. His range and tone resemble early Geoff Tate, which I never realized until I got into Queensrÿche a couple of years ago. His control is incredible and never sounds forced. The ease with which he hits notes is astonishing; he never sounds like he's yelling.
Torbjörn Weinesjö's guitar work is equally amazing. After purchasing this album, I went back and listened to their previous material for the first time in a long time (it had been seven years since their last album). As I mentioned earlier, each album is both distinct and familiar. I believe a lot of this can be credited to Torbjörn's guitar. He is one of the most original guitar players I have ever heard. He is capable of blazing fast Yngwie-style playing, but he most often simply goes for just the right tone or emotion for a particular song. As a result, he is very understated, but when you stop and listen to what he's doing, it's deceptive in its seeming simplicity.
Torbjörn's brother, Thomas, is equally original on the drums. It is fascinating to hear the rhythms he comes up with for each song. Like the guitar work, it initially sounds deceptively simple, but is anything but. He has power to spare but rarely plays big. Everything he does is to serve the song, not to bring attention to himself.
It's a shame that they have decided to call it a day, but they leave behind seven amazing albums, with this last one perhaps their best. And that's saying something.

JSwankBewertet in den USA am15. November 20145,0 von 5 Sternen Epic finale
Veni Domine's 7th, and final release, is a testament to everything they've accomplished in their 20 plus year career. One of the most consistently great, talented and innovative bands in the Christian metal scene over the past 20 years, they've never released a weak album. They've managed to maintain a fresh and innovative approach with every release and, most importantly, they have never compromised their beliefs or their message. In doing so, they have maintained their credibility in both the secular and the Christian scenes. Light is no less enthralling or unique than its 6 predecessors. There is a return to the doomy and reflective qualities of some of their early works, yet the progressive elements continue to permeate these lengthy, yet never self-indulgent songs. The heavy elements are retained but they don't dominate the mix. Softer passages emphasize the passion expressed in the lyrics and provide an opportunity for greater dynamic contrast. The open quality of the compositions really allows Fredrik's voice to shine - clearly one of the greatest (yet most underrated) metal singers in the past 20 years. "In Memoriam" is a perfectly crafted song that encapsulates the Veni Domine vibe - the way the piano carries the melody through different segments of the song is brilliant. "Hope" - with the jangly guitars (nodding a bit to old Queensryche) - is one of the most memorable songs here both musically and lyrically as it delivers the enduring message of finding meaning (and ultimately rescue from) grief and suffering. The latter part of the album touches on familiar end time themes, and in doing so circles back to the 1992 debut Fall Babylon Fall. In fact, the bonus track "Oh Great City" is an acoustic version of one of the best songs from that seminal release. While they will surely be missed, Veni Domine have given us (and generations to come) a legacy of amazing metal.

Richard Groninger Jr.Bewertet in den USA am2. August 20145,0 von 5 Sternen This is one of the best albums I have heard in years
Waited a long time for this, and boy was it worth it. This is one of the best albums I have heard in years. I have all Veni Domine cds and love them all, but this is a cut above all the rest IMO. Great guitars, Keys and lyrics from a band that has put out quality music for a long time. If your a fan of the band get this now, you will not be sorry.
