I read the original some years ago and was blown away. While I was raised in the Presbyterian Church, I felt, for many years, that Church was a social thing, not unlike Judaism( Absolutely no disrespect meant for Yahweh's chosen people). When I began to explore spiritual issues, I had a lot of trouble trying to sift things out. WRM really helped out. I have been trying to get another copy of this ever since mine disappeared. Probably an act of Satan, and not God. I do not understand arvind-4@msn.com's comments, unless the -4 means that he is not hitting on all eight cylinders. For anyone who is struggling with what to believe spiritually, this is essential reading. It is a book that addresses issues in a factual manner, leaving bias and assumptions out; other than "Is this all there is?". This is not a treatise on whether God exists or not. And for that matter, neither is the Holy Bible which begins, "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth." For some years I was never sure whether or not to have several wives, dress in black and white and ride a bicycle for two years, give up all my vices, as well as coffee and meat( Every SDA restaurant I've ever eaten at has been great!), or what. This text provided me with answers that were essential to not only what road I travelled, but to my growth as well. Thank you, Walter Martin!

While I don't have time to comment on the lack of facts by the person who made the prior review (who seems not to know squat about Christianity, since the word TRINITY is neither found NOR added into the Bible and the doctrine has been a part of Christianity since DAY ONE- [...] I do have time to comment on Martin's inclusion of Eastern Religions- at the time of it's original publication, Martin's book was (and still is) the standard work on cults and abberant pseudo-Christian religious movements. At the time of publication, many other works on eastern religions were not in print as they were today, so as a catch all, Martin included breif research on each one so that his readers would be informed about these other movements as well.
The author of the former paragraph would do well to re-visit his research, since most of his sources of information are from the centuries beyond the origination of Christianity, despite their claim to be older , which make them inadmissable as so-called evidence of supposed 'borrowing'. Ronald Nash and Glenn Miller both have articles on the subject that can be accessed through Miller's Christian Thinktank- [...]
Overall, Martin's work remains the standard on the issue of cults and abberant pseudo-Christian movements such as Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, The Unification Church and others. It should be standard in everyone's library.

With all due respect to late Walter Martin, I have no idea why he included Hinduism [Eastern Religions] in a book dealing with cults, unless he thinks all religions are cults. According to Catholic Encyclopedia even Christianity is a cult of Judaism.........Another thing I do not understand is his elaborate description of Rajaneesh in 10 pages on a chpater dealing with Eastern Religions [ total 15 pages]. He calls Rajaneesh "pragmatically Hindu." Walter Martin did not get his facts right!!! Late Rajaneesh was not a Hindu. He was a Jain Tantrik. It is a shame such a renowned author like Walter Martin used 10 pages to discuss about Rajaneesh, unless his goal was to generate disgust among readers against all eastern religions. If some one rights about Christianity, I like to see discussion about Mother Theresa and Billy Grahm and not about Jim Baker, Jim Johns or Jimmy Swaggert. I hope and pray all the readers of this popular book also will read books like AM I A HINDU? before judging Hinduism. ------------- On page 352 paragraph -1 he wrote, "perhaps the well known section of Vedas is the Hindu epic called the Bhagavad Gita." THIS STATEMENT IS TOTALLY WRONG. Even by Max Muller, Bhagavad Gita is not an epic. It is part and parcel of an epic named MAHABHARATA, the longest poem in the world. Apart from that VEDAS THE VERY FIRST SCRIPTURES OF HINDUISM was written long long time before epics like RAMAYANA and MAHABHARATA were written. Just like 66 books of the Holy Bible deals with the trails, tribulations and history of the Jews, ALL HINDU SCRIPTURES DEAL WITH THE CULTURE AND HISTORY OF PEOPLE IN INDIA. Hinduism indeed is the culture of India and not an organized religion like Islam or Christianity.Lesen Sie weiter... ›

The Kingdom of the Cults, a classic book that enlightens the reader and exposes the dark workings of man. In other's reviews they can't seem to show anywhere that what is stated factually in the book is wrong. And it isn't. Yes there are many nice and good sincere Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses, just as there are good Muslims, I've met many in my travels. They may be sincere, but sincerely wrong in their beliefs. I have examined what this book says and read each groups litrature, met members and compared the two. They agree. I was in a cult myself (Scientology)as was my wife (Hare Krisna) Yes they are cults, they are decieved by their leaders and they are heading in the wrong direction. Read this book if you are a member of a cult, you cannot deny the facts. Go on facts not feelings, "The heart is wicked and decietful above all things, who can trust it?" as God says in His Word the Bible.
