Kurzbeschreibung

USA TODAY BESTSELLER

In Lauren Layne’s sizzling Sex, Love & Stiletto series, New York’s hottest “sexpert” has been living a lie—and it’s up to one man to keep her honest . . . all night long.

Riley McKenna knows sex—good sex, bad sex, kinky sex. Her articles in Stiletto magazine are the publication’s most scandalous—and the most read. But when Stiletto’s fiftieth anniversary issue requires her column to get a lot more personal, Riley is forced to confront a long-hidden secret: Her own sexual experience is limited to one awkward college encounter. Now Riley is about to call in the favor of a lifetime from the one man who’s always held her heart.

Sam Compton knows two things about Riley McKenna: She’s the only woman for him. But as his best friend’s little sister, she’s also completely off-limits. Sam shouldn’t even consider her proposition: to have a one-night stand in the name of research. But the thought of another man putting his hands on Riley is more than Sam can handle, and soon he’s agreeing to one night with New York’s resident sexpot. But Riley’s full of surprises, and what starts as “one time only” soon becomes “just one more time.” And then one more. And before they know it, Riley and Sam learn firsthand that when it comes to love, there’s no such thing as just one night.

There is nothing wrong with this novel, but after having read the first two installments, I felt a bit disappointed with this particular story. You can just tell that Lauren wrote this one really fast and did not take enough time to create more interesting situations for the couple. But it was a good read and I am curious about the last book in this series.

Riley works in Stiletto along with Grace and Julie, she is the “sex expert” and since is the magazine’s birthday every journalist will have to do an issue related with their own personal experience. There’s only one problem: Riley does her work based on research, her personal experience is pretty much close to zero. The main reason for that is Sam - her oldest brothers best friend and basically a part of her family. Riley and Sam know each other since kids but they do not feel very brotherly/sisterly for each other
So, she decides to take a risk and ask Sam to sleep with her in order to “research”

This was my first book in this series but I really enjoyed it. The storyline for this book was a bit predictable but funny and well developed.
You see the development in third person but in both POVs, which was very engaging. I really liked Riley - she is a strong heroine who is not afraid of taking chances, even if that means she will be hurt in the process. Sam was a bit difficult but I could understand him - he is somewhat insecure and tries to hide himself to keep from hurting.

absolutely adorable are the secondary characters - the Stiletto girls as well as Rileys family. They were a big reason why this book was really fun to read.

All in all: this was a nice hot story with a lot of spark and characters who were more than skin deep and who are really likeable.
I can't wait to read the first books in this series and really hope for a forth book

4.0 von 5 Sternen Love this book and its feel good story line. 13. Juli 2014
Von TSRBR - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Overall Rating: 4 Rockin’ ★★★★

Riley McKenna has loved Sam Compton since the day she met him at the tender age of seventeen. Sam is Riley’s big brothers best friend and as usual big brother puts the hands off rule on Sam. What’s a girl to do? Everything she can to make Sam break that rule and see her as his. The problem is Sam’s sense of loyalty and honor will not allow him to grab the girl that he wants, Riley.

Ten years later has not changed anything for Riley, she still wants Sam. Even though she is now a writer for a women’s magazine and writes all about sex, Riley is still basically untouched. Her reputation says that she is a woman of the world but her heart still belongs to one man, Sam. When it is announced that each writer for the magazine must write about their personal life and how their experiences writing for the magazine has made a difference, Riley knows she can no longer lie about her sexual inexperience. The sex expert needs some experience and Sam is the man for the job. Her solution involves convincing Sam to give her some one on one lessons on sex.

Sam has always wanted Riley, but a promise is a promise. Plus he loves her family and has been more or less adopted as one of their own since he has only a mother that hates him. Going after Riley could destroy his place in the family. He also doesn’t feel like he is good enough for her thanks to the constant hateful comments his mother has thrown at him all his life. When Riley comes to him for help he is conflicted. This is his chance to make her his if only for one night but can he break his promise to his best friend? Can he loose his adoptive family? Will he be able to stand strong or give in to the need of being with Riley?

4.0 von 5 Sternen A must read in romance! 3. Juli 2014
Von rebel27 - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

This ARC was provided to me by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I knew from reading the description of this book that it would become one of my favorites. I love when an author makes the heroine in this case, Riley, and makes her a confident independent woman. To many authors have the perfect shy virginal heroines that get tired and repetitive. Riley knew what she wanted and even though she was embarrassed she was willing to put herself out there in order to achieve her goals.

Sam was the opposite of most alpha male characters in the fact that he had insecurities and struggled with love and commitment. The author did a great job of making him a strong alpha male but at the same time different in the fact that he did have insecurities and issues that he had to work through in order to make his relationship with Riley work.
The fact that neither character was perfect made this book so much more real and more enjoyable to read.

The premise of this story hooked me from the beginning. I loved the fact that the heroine was a sex columnist. The author did a great job of making the main characters love story real and authentic. This is a great romance and I can't wait for hopefully Emma's story next.

2.0 von 5 Sternen Promising start, turned into a DNF for me. 31. März 2015
Von World of wool - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
Okay, for calibration: I have a hard time finding contemporary romances I can finish. I love complex, real-feeling characters with intense chemistry and believable roadblocks to their happy ending. I dislike shallow/glossy characterization, misunderstandings/refusal to communicate as the driver of why people can't be together, characters who are too perfect and therefore boring, and those scenes in series romances where everything grinds to a halt so couples from other books can show you how perfect their relationship is.

My tl;dr for this is that it started out strong, and I really wanted to like it, but it turned into a DNF (for now).

Heroine has been in love with the hero for years (he's a friend of the family), but believes that he doesn't like her in a romantic way. Meanwhile, hero has been into the heroine for years but believes that she's not into him. Heroine works as a love and sex columnist for a women's magazine. Hero is starting an artisanal distillery. (I was totally into his distillery, FYI.) Heroine turns out not to really have much sexual experience, and then there is a plot device where suddenly she must gain some more (...) - naturally she asks the hero for his penis assistance.

The first couple of sequences are about the heroine, who is on a bad date with a guy she's hoping she can somehow convert to a someone she's willing to have sex with. It doesn't work out, as it never works out. The heroine, we discover, is still nearly a virgin, far from the glamorous urban temptress she masquerades as in her professional life. We meet the hero when he's visiting his surly, unpleasant mom. This is going well! At 10%, I like the hero. I like the heroine. I want more information about the distillery. I am totally prepared to be led down a path of understanding how they are uniquely suited to each other, and to enjoy a friends-to-lovers thing. I really want to like the book.

Then everything slows down so the book can have a huge group infodumping scene where you check in with characters from other books in this series and meet the characters whose romances have yet to be part of this series (but are coming). People who are not me must LOVE these scenes, because lord are they ever a mainstay of series romances. I find them painful and skim them, which I am also doing here. Blah blah blah, sexy banter between established couples from prior books. Then you have to stop skimming as the plot device of the heroine needing to have sex for professional reasons is introduced.

Then everything cut to a sequence where the heroine and hero are going to interact for the first time. I still felt hopeful, but then the scene took place at a big weekly adult family dinner of the type that primarily takes place in series romances.

I really struggle with scenes where one of your main characters and some random bystander are talking about our main couple. It just feels like nothing good ever comes of them, really. It's so hard for me to believe in scenes where third parties are obsessed with how the longterm crush someone has is working out, you know what I mean?

It's also hard for me to believe, in this book, that somehow Sam (hero) and Riley (heroine) have never progressed past bickering to flirtation, and that they mutually are so totally unaware that the other is interested in them. (That is to say, I feel that the book is telling me that this is so, that Sam both moons over Riley and is completely unaware that she likes him, and vice-versa, but I can't sense it in their interactions. And they are both described as being very, very hot in very conventional ways, like notably hot even for NYC, so.... it's just hard to buy that they've never ever had a glass of wine too many and flirted.)

I still want to like it, because I like the main characters quite a bit, and I was actually pretty intrigued by Sam's business venture and his relationship with his mom. (I'm realizing that I tend to really like romances that have more "real" elements like that, and tend to not like as much ones that are super frothy and light and not very interested in being realistic. So this book, so far, kind of combines those two. Mixed feelings.)

I read a bit more, and the big wrench thrown in the works is that Sam apparently once promised Riley's brother (his BFF) that he wouldn't ever have sexy feelings for Riley. And so now he can't and he's tortured or whatever.

...? That's it? That's it? Is this how adults act? All of this lying-by-omission and never being brave and letting someone know how you feel, and the weird promises you stick to like you made them to someone on his deathbed?

I paused, read some lower-rated reviews, and I think this book falls in a category I think of as "not bad, but not for people like me", who want to read about real-adjacent characters having real-adjacent feelings and careers and problems and acting like adults instead of hiding their feelings and indulging in my Kryoptonite, BIG MISUNDERSTANDINGS.

This started out so promisingly, and I love reading about characters from more blue-collar backgrounds, but I think I'm calling it at 22%.

*I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.*

This was the first book I've read by Lauren Layne, and it definitely will not be the last! Read this within a day! "Just One Night" is the 3rd book in the "Sex, Love & Stiletto" series and can be read as a stand-alone book. In this book, we meet Riley McKenna and Sam Compton.

Riley writes articles about sex for Stiletto magazine. There's just one tiny problem -- she doesn't have a lot of experience with sex! The last time she had sex was about 9 years ago with her college boyfriend. Riley realizes the reason why she hasn't slept with anyone during that time was because she's always had a crush with her brother Liam's best friend, Sam Compton.

Sam would do anything for Riley. He's always been there for her when she needed him, but he has never taken their relationship further out of respect for Riley's brother. Riley's editor, Camille, wants all the Stiletto columnists to write a true story about the people behind the headlines. Riley starts to worry because how can she write a story about her own love life when she isn't even having sex? So she turns to Sam.

Sam is reluctant to go with Riley's request. He worries that once he and Riley have one night of meaningless sex to help with Riley's article, their relationship will change. But Riley says if he doesn't want to have sex with her, she will find someone else. And boy, is Sam not going to have that!

Their one night, however, makes them realize it's not meaningless. They have always genuinely cared for each other. But what happens when Sam finds out Riley loves him? How does he take the article that she has written about him?

"Just One Night" was a wonderful read! It was fun, hot, and full of entertainment! I'm definitely going to read the first two books in this series to catch up! Lauren Layne has gained a new fan!

5.0 von 5 Sternen one of my all time favourite contemporary romances. ticks all the boxes 30. Juni 2014
Von Artfullee - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
This is one of my favourite contemporary romance series and Lauren Layne is one of my automatic download authors whenever a new book of hers is released. Her books never fail in grabbing my attention and putting me in a better mood. This third installment in the Sex, Love and Stiletto series is no different and was told with Laurens usual style, a perfect blend of humor, emotion, love and angst, seriousness and good fun.

Being Stiletto magazines' resident sex expert, Riley has a certain persona around town to uphold, one that she perpetuates for the sake of the magazine. However, her real life experience couldn't be further from what she writes about, and when she is put on the spot by her editor to write about personal experiences, she goes to her long time friend Sam, to ask for help in her 'research'. Little did Riley and Sam know, but each have held a torch for the other since they first met, but circumstances have meant that they have remained just friends till now.

I love friends to lovers romances, and Riley and Sam's story just melted my heart, making me feel warm and fuzzy inside. I love how this author writes her characters, the way the friendships are interwoven into each story, the way the love interests tales are told, the way that it is so easy to connect with the characters and feel like I am in the story with them. These stories are easy to read, entertaining all the way through and leave you with a satisfied, goofy grin after you read the last page. Each and every character in this series have important roles to play in how the story develops and I absolutely love the cameos and involvement by the characters from the previous books. As with the other two books, the friendship between the girls is one of my favourite aspects, their sassy attitudes, their funny comebacks, their fierce loyalty to each other. I loved being witness to their lives.

Another aspect of these books that I love, are the alternating point of views. I love being in both the characters heads and the changeovers were written seamlessly. The way these characters interacted with each other and how their love story developed was so heartwarming and when they eventually get together the sparks fly. The chemistry between Riley and Sam was so, so good. Their relationship was serious when it had to be, but it was also such a fun and flirty romance, leaving me smiling throughout the book.

I was in two minds when I finished this book. On one hand I was sad to say goodbye to the series, I want know more about the characters and I would love to hear Alex and Emma's story (just putting out there :)) On the other hand, I was feeling so happy after reading such a feel-good love story and the ending left me satisfied and content. If you haven't read a book by this author I suggest you start with book 1 in this series. I'm sure you will fall in love with these characters just as I have.
