5.0 von 5 Sternen perfect 6. Mai 2014

This very short M/M short story is Ms Shiloh at her best.

She has this unfortunate habit of creating dismaying fantasy worlds where much is dark and hopeless and it detracts from her fantasy romances as it does here as well.
And yet this time she manages to create a perfect small jewel, extremely concise but not lacking. The story may be predictable but its beauty lies in its simple, neat language and in the carefully paced progression of feelings between the two leads.

Other reviewers say it could have been longer. It could, but it needs not be. An annoying name switch is the only mistake I detected.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Lovely Story, Told With Dignity 27. April 2014

I become more of a Hollis Shiloh fan with every work I read. This story is one of the more satisfying ones I've read by anyone in a while. It's well written, without a lot of unnecessary prose. The story is told with a great deal of dignity afforded to the main characters and what passes between them. I liked that very much, having grown weary of writing from some authors who degrade a story through the liberal use of coarse vocabulary and almost sleazy tone. I like it when the author respects the characters and their story. This one's a winner!
5.0 von 5 Sternen A touching and romantic novella! 27. April 2014

Govan is from the north. He doesn't approve of the slavery that goes on around him and has no desire to ever own another man. When he sees Jon being beaten by his owner, Govan can't help but feel a pull towards the waiflike slave.

He longs to free Jon but at the same time, Govan's attraction to the man is so strong he can't imagine ever letting him go.

Damaged by his past, Jon doesn't understand Govan's kindness but can't help but feel safe around the gentle innkeeper.

With a world of differences between them, will Jon and Govan find their way to love, or will Jon's vengeful owner destroy their chance at happiness?

Jon is a well written short story with characters that pulled at my heartstrings from the very first page. Another wonderful tale from one of my favorite authors; I always enjoy Hollis' imaginative worlds and happy endings!

Adult themes including physical abuse and descriptive sexual encounters make this story appropriate for adult audiences only.

4.0 von 5 Sternen A sweet read 27. April 2014

I loved the premise of the story and the sweetness of it. I wish it had been longer, but what there was of it made me ache for Jon.
4.0 von 5 Sternen Very sweet and short 11. Februar 2015

Well, for one we didn't have to wait until 25% of the book or later to find out the names of all the primary characters, like we sometimes do in this author's stories. This story had very few, if any, flaws for a story so short. It is possible for a story to be short without a reader feeling like something is missing. The way the relationship between Jon and Govan moved from lad in distress-hero to employer-employee to partners in a way that felt seamless, unrushed and made sense. Nothing felt forced, especially since Govan refused to force Jon to do anything unwillingly. When they finally came together it was under only the right circumstances and was natural. And I don't think that Jon was necessarily sickly, because he seemed to do just fine when actually being treated as a regular person with proper food, clothing and shelter. There's even a half page epilogue that added just the right touch to the ending.
