This is NOT a book by Bill Bryson and thus, of course, it lacks his characteristic wit. If this is what the reader is looking for, then he or she will be disappointed.
This book consists of lots of short pieces by many different authors. Yes, some of them seem a little uninspired but most of them put a big fat smile on my face. The authors share their very person impressions about (more or less) quintessentially English locations, experiences and objects. Most pieces were full of genuine love for England. Of course, everybody has their very own Icons Of England and might not be able to relate to those presented in this book. I can and I would definitely recommend this book both to English expats and to all anglophiles.
4 out of 5 - one star off for the less impressive pieces.
