Praise for Hunting Prince Dracula:
"Combining historical fiction, romance, forensics, a feisty heroine, a swiftpaced plot, gobs of murders, and historical illustrations, Maniscalco pulls in the reader for a wonderfully bloody romantic romp."―Booklist
"Audrey Rose is a smart, fearless, and progressive heroine. Plenty of red herrings, a conspicuous absence of blood, and a developing romance make this a must-read."―School Library Journal
"Readers of the previous mystery will be thrilled to have more of this likable duo. [A] delightful romp into an 1888 Gothic mystery with a hint of romance."―School Library Connection
Praise for Stalking Jack the Ripper:
"An entertaining debut full of twists and turns, perfect for fans of historical fiction and mystery."
―School Library Journal
"Maniscalco has created a serious, sharp-minded, and forward-thinking protagonist in Audrey Rose, whose fearlessness will endear her to readers looking for an engaging historical thriller. Abundant red herrings and a dash of romance round out this gruesome but engrossing story."
*"This audiobook has everything: a true-life tale that has intrigued readers for 100-plus years, a young woman who balks at the constraints put upon women during the Victorian era, a marvelous yet somewhat gruesome mystery, and a narrator who brings you down into Spitalfields as Jack the Ripper earns his name. A must-have."―School Library Journal *starred review*
"Audrey is a young woman eager to use her brains and willing to flaunt society's rules....This mystery pays homage to classics like Doyle's Sherlock Holmes and Mary Shelley's Frankenstein [and] will satisfy those readers looking for historical mystery, a witty heroine, and a little romance."
―School Library Connection
In this hotly anticipated sequel to the haunting #1 bestseller Stalking Jack the Ripper, bizarre murders are discovered in the castle of Prince Vlad the Impaler, otherwise known as Dracula. Could it be a copycat killer...or has the depraved prince been brought back to life?

Fresh of the horrible revelations about the identity of Jack the Ripper, Audrey Rose and Thomas have gone to Romania to attend classes at a school for forensic medicine situated in a castle that was the former home of Vlad Tepes aka Vlad Dracul. On the train ride to Bucharest a man is found impaled, adding to the rumors that Vlad Tepes has risen from the dead and Strigoi are wandering the woods around Bran Castle. Soon after their arrival, a student dies under mysterious circumstances, and during the autopsy it is revealed that all the blood is missing from his body. But while some people start buying into superstitions, Audrey Rose and Thomas are convinced that the killer is very human. Their investigations soon become a race against time as more bodies start piling up, and a secret about his family could possibly put Thomas in danger too ...
While this book started off a *little* slow it really took off after a while and turned into a fun and suspenseful rollercoaster ride. Given the setting it's not surprising that this story is at times quite creepy, and the author really piled on the "Oh my GOD!!!!" moments in the second half of the book. Seriously, everytime I thought "it can't get worse for them" I was immediately proven wrong! By the time I got to the last 100 pages I was just racing through cause I had to know how it would end. And while I did have my suspicions as to who the killer could be (suspicions that changed numerous times while reading) I can honestly say that I did not see this ending or the identity of the killer coming. Speaking of the ending --- the final part after the big reveal held a few very swoonworthy moments, and also nicely set up the next book in the series (no cliffhanger though).
There were a few moments throughout the book where I raised an eyebrow or two at things either Audrey Rose or Thomas said or did, or at choices they made. But the rest of the book was so good that I can easily forgive that. Ultimately, "Hunting Prince Dracula" was really fun to read and left me with a huge smile on my face. What more can you ask for?

The second book is about Audrey Wadsworth and Thomas Creswell attending a medical training school in Romania in none other than Dracula’s castle . When students turn up murdered (drained of thier blood) Audrey and Thomas can’t help themselves and slowly uncover the castles secrets.
Audrey is still affected by events in the 1st book and at times can’t trust her own eyes or mind. Thomas tries to do what he thinks is best for Audrey and attempts to help her cope. This turns out to create alot of friction between the two. Thomas in his own way is just trying to show he cares but Audrey finds it stifling. It was heartbreaking to see thomas so vulnerable at times to then have Audrey crush him. In the end their relationship gains trust and respect for one another.
Hunting Prince Dracula has a lead who enjoys dissecting bodies, her partner in adventure who is handsome and swoon worthy, witty dark banter, sexual tension, mystery, murder, secret orders, Romanian folklore, and a ton of history on both Dracula and Vlad the Impalor. All and all these add up to a fantastic read and I highly recommend the series!!
I have so much to say about this book, I hardly know where to start. And that is rich coming from me, because usually with books I find flaws that stick out like a sore thumb and leave me mildly disappointed. But this book (sequel to Maniscalco’s debut Stalking Jack the Ripper in 2016), I can’t even begin to tell you how amazing this book was. And I don’t say that lightly. Maniscalco was brilliant in her plotting and prose in this one. It topped the first in the series, in this stunning sequel that stands out all on its own.
There was nothing, nothing, I didn’t love about this book and that is truly rare. The characters jumped off the page, the setting encapsulated me in its gothic frigidness, and I felt like I had stepped into Victorian Romania and Bran Dracula’s/Vlad the Impaler’s castle walls. Needless to say, I finished this book in two sittings and I didn’t even expect to finish it quite so soon. I sunk my fangs into and devoured every. Single. Word. Ravenously.
Audrey Rose Wadsworth and Thomas Cresswell continue to be my favorite renditions of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson to date. They are stunning and vibrant and a pure pleasure to divulge and solve crimes alongside. And Thomas’s wicked mouth made it all the more alluring. Can we talk about slow burn? That’s where it’s at, people. And far too many authors these days, especially in the Young Adult genre, fail at the romance. But not Maniscalco. Oh, no. She makes you beg for it. It drove me insane. I wanted Thomas and Audrey Rose to be together more than anything.
And you know what else many authors fail to present realistically? Relationships.
Things aren’t always going to be smooth sailing when it comes to relationships of any kind, whether they’re romantic or platonic friendships. The tumultuous scenes in this book really nailed the right level of emotion for the characters involved. There was nothing that made me cringe about the scenes or roll my eyes and mouth the words D-R-A-M-A. Nope. Audrey Rose continues to be a mature young woman and keeps her spine straight and shoulders back regardless of what she’s facing.
And can we stop to admire this heroine? Audrey Rose is a serious role model. She’s fierce, she’s strong, she isn’t afraid to speak her mind regardless of societal expectations. But she also isn’t a straight rebel. Though there is a lot of late night sneaking around in a dark and creepy castle, Audrey Rose remains a lady through and through. I admire this beyond measure, because somewhere along the line, characters begin to compromise who they are for the sake of their adventures and lose a bit of themselves along the way. I didn’t find that to be the case here. Though there certainly was growth that was occurring in the aftermath of the first book in the series.
I highly recommend this book to anyone. It is a clean read, no sexual content or foul language, for those who are curious. It is truly exceptional storytelling and one that will leave you turning the pages at break-neck speed just to find out what happens next!
It’s also great to see that the relationship between the protagonists expand... our hero exposes his vulnerabilities. As such, both are allowed to be equals -one is not always saving the other.
I hope their relationship continues to progress in the next book.
