Kurzbeschreibung

Time and again, the work performed at The Institutes for

the Achievement of Human Potential has demonstrated that children from birth to age six are capable of learning better and faster than older children. How To Teach Your Baby To Read shows just how easy it is to teach a young child to read, while How To Teach Your Baby Math presents the simple steps for teaching mathematics through the development of thinking and reasoning skills. Both books explain how to begin and expand each program, how to make and organize necessary materials, and how to more fully develop your child’s reading and math potential.

How to Give Your Baby Encyclopedic Knowledge shows how simple it is to develop a program that cultivates a young child’s awareness and understanding of the arts, science, and nature—to recognize the insects in the garden, to learn about the countries of the world, to discover the beauty of a Van Gogh painting, and much more. How To Multiply Your Baby’s Intelligence provides a comprehensive program for teaching your young child how to read, to understand mathematics, and to literally multiply his or her overall learning potential in preparation for a lifetime of success.

The Gentle Revolution Series:

The Institutes for the Achievement of Human Potential has been successfully serving children and teaching parents for five decades. Its goal has been to significantly improve the intellectual, physical, and social development of all children. The groundbreaking methods and techniques of The Institutes have set the standards in early childhood education. As a result, the books written by Glenn Doman, founder of this organization, have become the all-time best-selling parenting series in the United States and the world.

I discovered this book eleven years ago as a new mother. I was amazed and delighted to find out the wonderous ways that my baby's brain worked. I followed the 'essence' of the book - tempering it so that it was always low-stress and joyful and following the suggestions according to our daily mood (not the rigid schedule suggested). We modififed the suggestions so that everything was fun - she always begged for more. Fast forward to today...I have three children, ages 7,9 and 11. They are all happy, confident, independent and secure. They are all outstanding athletes. They all attend school in a gifted program and excel as students. But even more - they love school, they love to read, they love learning. Do yourself and your child the favor of a lifetime - read this book!

I used this method 17 years ago on my 17 month old son. He was reading by the time he was two--Hardy Boys before five--with excellent comprehension. He's now a sophomore at MIT on full scholarship, played Varsity lacrosse, etc. He's a great kid and was a great student. Doman's book was wonderful. Doman's philosophy is wonderful--teach as a reward, never a punishment--always stop before the child wants to--avoid testing--avoid pressure--deveop the physical, artisitic, and cultural elements of the person as well. Buy it! Read it! Follow it!

I have a 1-year boy, I've just read most of Doman's books, including this one, and I am suddenly ecstatic with a new purpose to my life as never before (I'm an older parent). This gentle man, Glenn Doman, with such a soft heart --oh god, I'm overwhelmed by what he has given me; inspiration, motivation, and a well-structured do-able teaching plan for my son. As I began reading his stuff the words "privileged, upper echelon, aristocracy, wealthy, nobility, elite" kept running through my mind--definetly not of my ilk, I mistakenly thought. But as I delved more deeply, I was stirred to remember my own childhood and all the unfulfilled cravings I had for love, acceptance, and for KNOWLEDGE. Knowledge so that I could better comprehend and enjoy the wonder of my world. Instead, I was thrust into captivity (beginning with the playpen), where years of boredom caused by lack of stimulation, eventually destroyed my ravenous thirst for information. At age 5, as a "dim wit", I reluctantly and fearfully entered public school. I found my 'place' as a slightly below-average student, and hobbled through to the end, glad to be free of it all by grade 12. In my forties I entered college, did exceptionally well after which my 'real life' finally began. What happened to the front half of my life! My son, my precious baby boy--I'm going to "joyously and without pressure of any kind" feed his appetite for knowledge... "kids would rather learn than eat"(!)
Glenn Doman and his team have lit a spark which I hope will finally 'catch' in this new century. Teaching very young children to love learning, I too believe, can ultimately help make a more compassionate world.
