Kurzbeschreibung

Do you have a real relationship with God, or do you just have a religion? Do you know God, or do you just know about God? In How Big Is Your God? Paul Coutinho, SJ, challenges us to grow stronger and deeper in our faith and in our relationship with God—a God whose love knows no bounds. To help us on our way, Coutinho introduces us to people in various world religions—from Hindu friends to Buddhist teachers to St. Ignatius of Loyola—who have shaped his spiritual life and made possible his deep, personal relationship with God.

Synopsis

Deepen your experience of God by moving from religion to relationship. Paul Coutinho, SJ, is an Indian Jesuit priest with a genial sense of humour and a penchant for asking deeply thought-provoking spiritual questions: Do you have a real relationship with God, or do you just know about God? Do you worry about the smallest things, or do you trust God to help you through even the biggest things/ Have you ever considered believing in a God without limits, a God powerful enough to enable you to think, love, and live differently? In How big Is Your God?Fr. Coutinho challenges us to grow stronger and deeper in our faith by embracing a God whose love knows no bounds. to help us on our way, Coutinho introduces us o his Hindu friends who put him on the path to Mysticism: to his Buddhist teachers who broke open his limited views of he divine: to Viktor Frankl, Desmond Tutu, and other enlightened guides who led him to a far more meaningful spiritual life; and to St. Ignatius of Loyola, whose Spiritual Exercises continue to shape his reflection and prayer life.

Each short chapter in this book will draw readers with an open mind and a longing heart into a closer relationship with God and will encourage them to experience the infinite breadth of God in a deeply personal way.

Très cool, mixing catholic experience of religion with hinduism and budhism - not much to do with catholicism so I did enjoy this book very much.
If you are not certain what or how you would like to believe you will find guidance.

This is a remarkable, soul-stirring book! I'll never be able to resell it because I've underlined and highlighted so much of every page. And the DVD that comes with it is inspiring as well. A wonderful companion to the book itself, which gave me some unique new insights on my Catholic faith and broadened my knowledge base a great deal. Coutinho probably galls most traditionalists, but if you're open to a new spin on a very old subject, this is the book for you.

I was challenged to make my God bigger than only the Theological understandings. The author invites us to get to know God at the personal level. The experience of God can be any experience, For God is in all of our daily encounters--the gentle sun of autumn, walking through crunchy leaves, meeting wild turkeys in the woods, finding an insight while reading.... all are experiences are filled with God for us to encounter.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A Life Changing Book About Spirituality 25. Oktober 2009

Fr Paul Countinho's work will be a classic. This book won the 2007 Eric Hoffer Award given to the best independently (by Loyola Press) published book in America. I wish I had a thousand copies of this book to give away to the poor who cannot afford to buy it. I personally have already given away a dozen copies. It is that wonderful and good.

My mind was beyond comprehension at the God that Fr. Paul describes. So big, so majestic, so filled with the depths of love that most of us cannot imagine. God truly loves us as humans and asks only for our love of him in return. A small idea - but executed in a stupendous Star Wars, overwhelming life-shaking way.

Fr Paul has a very engaging wit and terrific condensed writing style. Every 2-4 page chapter just bristles with insightful content and wisdom. This goes far beyond C.S. Lewis or Thomas Merton into a living, breathing almost mystical sense of God's overwhelming infinite love. Definitely one of the best books of my life.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Your God --- How Big? 30. Juli 2011
Von Michael B. Ferguson - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
"How Big is your God?"is a well-written and challenging book. The author, an Indian-born Jesuit priest distills the illumination of well-known aspects of the God of Jews, Christians, and Muslims, into pithy, challenging segments. He bring "eastern" sensibilities to a discussion of a classically "western" topic. His examples are often problemmatic for people who choose to think of God in European terms, but struggling with them is well worth the while. It is proving to be an excellent adult study text for a group of older Christians. It's well worth exploring.

This is a concept of God that is bigger and more merciful than the one I had grown up with.
