5.0 von 5 Sternen Take THAT, Rolf Hochuth! 6. Juli 2013
Von Raymond G. Meyers - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
This is a very well researched, clearly written review of the extraordinary history of Pius XII and the rise and fall of the Third Reich. All the key players in this period of history have had their share of being vilified - Churchill, Roosevelt, and both Pius XI and Pius XII, but none has been as badly treated by the ill-informed than Pacelli. Rychlak presents an exhaustive review of the entire political landscape beginning in the 1920's through the 1950's, and Pacelli's tremendous influence on the events of this dark period. Despite the enormous body of first-hand accounts and post-era tributes testifying to Pius XII's efforts (and accomplishments) to protect not only Catholics but Jews and others from the demonic Nazi regimes in Germany, Austria, Poland, Czechoslovakia, and others, the Church remains intimidated by those who maintain that the "whole true story" is still not revealed. Rychlak does a masterful job debunking much of the spurious accusations against Pius XII. This is a compelling recount of the myriad issues surrounding this tragic, but very interesting period, and, absent some future shocking revelation to the contrary, goes a very long way to exonerate this courageous pope.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Hitler, the War, and the Pope 25. Januar 2015
Von barbara bechard - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
Comprehensive. Broad in scope. Fascinating. Profoundly revealing. These are but a few of the words that describe this timely and well researched book about Pope Pius the Twelfth.

Push the XII is indeed a worthy candidate for sainthood. His bravery, deep faith and humility shine forth in this exhaustively researched and well written biography.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Revisionism is Finally Righted 19. November 2010
Von Robert Christopher - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe Verifizierter Kauf
Beginning in the 1960's revisionists and Catholic bashers began a serial character assassination of Pope Pius XII. Due to historically inaccurate assumptions and bigoted and mean spirited falsehoods the art and drama community, Marxists, and Catholic haters began a systematic attack on the sanctity and motivations of Pius. The myth spread with the support of many in the academic world including amateur historians who took for granted the lies perpetrated by these sorts.

Finally, we have a book that lays these falsehoods to rest. The original praise that Pius received from the war time and post war time press and from the Jewish community has been proven to be accurate.

This is a must read for anyone interested in understanding the complex position of the Catholic Church during one of mankind's most difficult periods. (One must always remember, the Catholic Church is not just one entity controlled by the Vicar of Christ but a multifaceted collection of human beings who at times fail to live up to the example of Christ, much as Peter did in the garden.) The book shows that while not all Catholics or Catholic priests were true to their faith Pius the XII was. The revionist view that began as a fictional play by Rolf Hochhuth in 1963 became accepted fact. At last the truth has been spoken!
