Simon Boulter has written an excellent guide to kettle bell exercises. While this is not as encyclopedic as Steve Cotter's Encyclopedia, it contains enough exercises for most people.

The book is well written. Exercise instructions are clear and easy to follow. The pictures are good and show the exercises well. The exercises are well grouped into body areas, but the emphasis here is on whole body and single limb workouts that use entire body chains. Yes, Simon includes several lower limb KB exercises and makes a big point that working out the lower half the body is probably as important or more important than the upper half. Simon also emphasizes working the back or posterior chain harder than the "mirror muscles." Each body section has the basic exercise (swing, squat, getup) and then several progressions into far advanced KB exercises that only the elite athlete should attempt. (eg double bell, single leg, dead lift or double bell windmills). Simon makes good recommendations as to progressions and numbers of reps before progressing to the more advanced variations.

Simon is big on form, and details repeatedly the proper positioning of the scapula, elbows, arms, relationships of legs and arms. This makes the book thicker, but these observations are important to prevent injury. In fact Simon goes even further and says that proper form is injury preventing. (e.g. proper squatting is good for the knees and back).

Simon is a believer in the health benefits of the kettle bell over dumbells and bars. He repeatedly states that using the KB in proper form is much less injury prone than either the dumb bell or bar. He even prefers the Olympic style lifts with the KB as being safer and again, less injury prone than bars or dumb bells. And he details several of them.

Simon Boulter has given us an excellent guide to kettle bell workouts. I am sorry that he has not published this in hard copy, but apparently only the e-book version.

I would put Boulter's kettlebell book only second to Pavel's. His writing style is direct and shares good information. A great up and coming writer who's has put out only quality work. If you have kettlebells or are planning on training with them pick this up.

I love kettlebells they have really helped me. I am always looking for more information. This book is incredibly informative and the author gives a lot of detail. You can really hurt yourself if you are using improper form. The pictures in this book are well done. I will be referring to this book a lot as I try to improve my training. My strength has increased so much. My shape changed too. I recommend this book.

It's good but the photos are more or less worthless. They show the beginning and the finish of an exercise but with no hint as to the motion and/or form to use in the process, a very good way to either screw up the moves or, worse, hurt yourself. Rather like showing the start and end of a TGU and then having you guess how it all happens.

A surprisingly complete package. Together with the "armored core" book by the same author, you would have enough to keep you entertained and growing stronger on a desert island. Look at the section on the TGU--as good as any you'll find and better than most. The focus is on strength building.
