The world of fitness apparel isn't ready for Beverly Lewis. She hates the gym, is nice to everybody, and shops at Ross Dress for Less. When she's not teaching preschool, she's wearing yoga pants . . . to nap in. So when she inherits her estranged grandfather's fitnesswear company in San Francisco, nobody expects her to keep it. Fite Fitness needs a heartless suit to save it from bankruptcy, not a thirty-year-old woman who cries when her students leave for kindergarten.

Someone like Liam Johnson. A former Olympic swimmer, Liam is Fite's executive vice president. Unlike Bev, he's devoted his life to Fite's success. Managing one little preschool teacher--and his attraction to her--shouldn't be an issue. Right?

But Bev's tired of being underpaid and underrated, and refuses to step aside as an obedient figurehead. To everyone's shock and horror, she moves up to San Francisco, sets up an office, and dives into the business. Nothing--not mockery, not exercise, not sabotage, not a disastrously hot night with her aggravating VP--is going to scare her away.
As Liam realizes she's tougher than she looks, he discovers that losing Fite might not be nearly as bad as losing her . . .

A story about the pursuit of love, happiness, and the perfect yoga pants, Love Handles will speak to anyone who's ever had to face what scares her most.

Warning: contains at least two loves scenes and a happy ending.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A strong romantic comedy/chick lit read 5. Juni 2011
Von embz - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
I read Love Handles after reading Galway's first book, Quick Study. Her writing style in Quick Study is strong and clear, and Love Handles has that quality as well. Love Handles is, in my opinion, even better than Quick Study (though I strongly recommend *both* books) because the author has taken the time and the length (nearly 400 pages) to develop the main characters, Beverly and Liam. After Beverly inherits her grandfather's business, a fitnesswear company, Vice President Liam Johnson, a former Olympic gold medalist in swimming, finds her useless at first. Then he finds a way to use her to gain more control over the company. Then he falls in love with her.

The plot has some twists at the end, one of which I didn't see coming. Where Love Handles shines, though, is in the characters, from Liam's friendly mother to his slacker sister and his shy brother, then through Beverly's obnoxiously-self-centered mom, kid sister, and a bunch of other characters at the fitness company and beyond. If you are looking for a great beach read, or just a nice, well-developed novel with a strong romance to enjoy during an afternoon or on vacation, then Love Handles is a contender. The characters stick with me (especially Liam) and this is one book I plan to read again.

2.0 von 5 Sternen Slow start & lacking comedy 13. Oktober 2015
Von Garden Gal - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
Romance is one of my favorite genres to read and a romantic comedy is usually a good bet. Unfortunately, this book doesn't have enough comedy and romance for that matter. To me, a lot of characters with self-loathing thoughts isn't funny. All families have some sort of disfunction and the ones in this book do too. Again, non comedic and not written in a way that could be humorous like a comedy sketch tv show does. I never laughed or smiled from this book. My least favorite part though is how dry and slow the book is to get the reader hooked. I'm optimistic, like to give the author a chance, so I kept reading and turning the page waiting for something to grab my attention. Around the time that Bev's mom and sister Kate arrive in Oakland, the story gained interest. As for location, the traffic and fog rolling in are traits for most of the Bay Area and Northern California in the Winter. Additionally, the Fite office is in San Francisco as is the famous Golden Gate Bridge. So, the Oakland, CA, location in the title is certainly a push and unnecessary. That's just my perspective as a resident of N. California.

I won't be reading more from this series. The characters just aren't interesting enough for me. My preference is to get lost in books, take my mind away from daily life and this book didn't. I found my mind wandering away from the book instead. I give it two stars.

1.0 von 5 Sternen I wish I could give this book negative stars! 17. April 2015

First off, in no way was this book funny. The really wasn't any romance in it either, so I have no idea why it is called a romantic comedy.

Secondly, the hero was so unlikable!
He was constantly telling her that she needed to exercise. He was so bitter that the company wasn't left to him. Even in the end, he still was obsessed with the company.

The heroine was just as unlikable. She was weak minded and when she did stick up for herself, she sounded naive. She cared far too much about what her parents thought of her. The hero was constantly calling her kindness fake and he was right. She ran the company by talking to her employee like they were four year olds. Subscribed them with cookies and treats just so that they would like her.

Back to the romance, or lack thereof, in the story. The first time that attraction was acted on was 58% into the book. You can't call this book a romance story if it's over half was through the book before anything happens. Even after that, the romance sucked. There is just nothing romantic about what is going on between these characters. A few rolls in the hay and they think that they are in love! Not once did either of them make any romantic gesture that wasn't about getting laid. (spoiler) Sure the hero quit, but the heroine also lost the company because of that! (Spoiler over)

As I said before, this book isn't funny. I don't understand why the author would call this a comedy. I can't think,if one funny thing that happened.

Lastly, this book was BORING!
It felt like it dragged on and on. I was waiting and waiting for something excited happen and nothing did.

I feel really bad for saying this, but this book was just awful. I was so excited to read it because the cover looked promising, but it was a huge letdown. If it wasn't free, I would demand my money back. If only I could get the time I wasted reading this back.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Sweet, frustrating and fun. 1. März 2015
Von Jaime Collins - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

This was one of those books that I just love to get lost in. It was sweet and simple but not boring. At times I found myself really frustrated with Bev's family and how manipulative and naive they were. Even towards the end when things started falling into place I wanted Bev to give them each what they deserved, which was nothing, but the author must be a better person than I because she made sure that Bev did what was right instead of just what was easy.
I really, really loved Liam. He could be a real jerk and was out to sabotage Bev but he was always honest about it. The sexual tension between Liam and Bev was off the charts and when the pressure finally broke between them, it was extremely hot!! I love that the sex scenes were not overly descriptive and rare. It really made them that much more special and sexy when they did happen.
I will be reading the rest of the books in this series for sure.

1.0 von 5 Sternen Not funny or romantic 3. März 2015
Von Lovestooread - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
The best thing about this book is it's over, no maybe it was free, no it's over. I tried to like the story but it was boring and the heroine got a partial spine in the last chapter. The heroine was a glutton for all the verbal abuse she could handle, from the hero to her mother, her father, her sister, her aunt, her former boss . It was shocking that the author expects you to believe that this woman was in charge of her own breathing let alone a company with other people depending on her. The hero was a someone I would have paid to have killed, constantly undermining and scheming to get control of the company. Her grandfather figured to keep it in the family just pimp out the granddaughter and he went along with the plan. None of her family offered support just a lot of your too nice and too stupid to run a business and after reading this I agree. The story was too disrespectful to enjoy her HEA with the creep she married. Her family was dysfunctional and she should have taken all the money out of the company and paid an assassin. Prison would have been a happier option than listening to all their criticism since she refused to grow a spine.
