*** Crash Course into Choosing your First Handgun, Handling it Safely and How to Not Look Stupid on the Range ***

We will start you from a measly nothing, and teach you EVERYTHING you need to know to get started with handguns. We'll cover:
- The Basics of Handguns
- Choosing Your First Handgun
- Common Myths YOU probably have about handguns
- How to Handle your Gun Safely and Not Shoot Someone
- Not Looking Stupid at the Range
- Insiders Scoop into Manufacturers, Calibers and Community Politics
- How to Impress your Friends with your Shooting Abilities.

No more sifting through multiple sources of information that all tell you different things.

No more being embarrassed when talking guns with your friends and colleagues.

No more not being able to protect yourself and your family.

Our main goal with this book is to give you as broad and solid of a knowledge about handguns as we can. You won't be a world champion shooter from just reading a book, but you will at least know what you're talking about, will be able to speak intelligently about guns, and not be scared of handling and using them.

No matter who you ask, you will get a different opinion on:
- The First Handgun to Get
- The Best Caliber to Use
- Where to Buy your Gun
- Every other gun question ever…

We aim to help clear up those ideas, and at a least give you a basis for judging everyone's opinion.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Great writing, need photos! 22. September 2013

I am a 5 year hand-gunner that went through hell trying to find a "gun for dummies" book on guns. This was an excellent primer in most areas and I highly recommend it for a collection. There are a few holes in it that were driven more by the format I believe than the writer except for a couple areas.

Overall, the flow is very good with a step by step thinking of "why do you need/want a gun", good points to ask for all. The transition into types of handguns was very good with breakdown of sizes and impact. Moving on to purchasing, cleaning, storage, concealed carry was all very good. But what about the actual shooting? This seemed to be a subset of the process yet should be have had a lot more time spent on the stance, hold, what to expect from recoil, fear. Also, the different types of handguns and what to expect from each needed more explanation.

I recommend compliments to BootCamp in Guns 101 (David Steirer), Getting Started with Firearms (Nick Leghorn), and How to Shoot a Handgun (Jake Maloney).

So why not 5 stars? Taylor did a great job here but there are only 2 photos and this is not acceptable with guns which are simple devices on one hand but zero room for error on the other. Lack of photos is an ongoing problem with many gun books thus the popularity of YouTube videos by idiots where I simply turn down the sound - I need to see the products up close. If Taylor included the Maloney text/photos and more photos of guns like Steirer did, BootCamp would be THE reference book for starters.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Excellent Primer for the First-Time Handgun Buyer 3. April 2013

I must say I was impressed, as a long-time shooter I was happy to find a book I could recommend to those looking to get into handgunning. This is the perfect answer, it covers the basics at a readable level without confusing or boring the reader with unnecessary technical details. It emphasizes safety (always a priority) and gives enough information for the reader to knowledgably shop for a pistol. And, as stated, those of us who are experienced can still learn (or at least be reminded) of the essential basics.

Highly recommend this to anyone considering their first handgun or to those who are helping those folks. This is the best book I have seen for first-time handgun buyers!
4.0 von 5 Sternen Good solid information but not perfect 27. September 2013

This book does a very good job of discussing handguns, the differences in various types and working safely with those guns. It is only slightly lacking in the handgun selection portion of the book, partly due to the continuing industry changes and newer guns being constantly released. No printed book could keep up with all releases at all times, but some new and popular models are not discussed. And really, the bottom line on selecting a handgun, for any purpose or by any individual, is to try before you buy.

While some safety issues could be, and often are, presented differently from author Taylor Hendricksen's viewpoint, there is nothing wrong on inaccurate abut the techniques discussed. And any handgun purchaser must always start by reading the manual, including safety precautions, for their particular choice of gun. Hendricksen does a great job of demystifying the "evil" gun and providing a solid reference for choosing ans safely handling your first, or even your twentyfirst, handgun.

Always keep your guns secured so nobody who shouldn't be getting to them can get to them. And never point it at anything you do not intend to kill.

Absolute newbies might find this book as a good introduction. But I would suggest they follow it up with other texts on the subject with illustrations on grip, stance options, sighting, etc. If one cannot afford both a gun and a class right away, there are many good and not so good you tubes on these subjects. The book could benefit from some good proofreading and editing, however. Also surprised that the author did not list the 380 caliber in the Caliber section of the book given the rise in popularity of pocket guns for concealed carry. All in all, an adequate intro read.
4.0 von 5 Sternen Very useful content, too many mistakes and typos 16. Dezember 2014

The content is very helpful for those new to firearms or considering handgun ownership. I could have done without the political references, but that is one of the benefits of being a citizen of the United States; you can speak your mind. Also, there are too many typographical errors. It doesn't take away from the content per se, but it does make the work look less than professional.
