Kurzbeschreibung

HTML5 is more than a markup language—it’s a collection of several independent web standards. Fortunately, this expanded guide covers everything you need in one convenient place. With step-by-step tutorials and real-world examples, HTML5: The Missing Manual shows you how to build web apps that include video tools, dynamic graphics, geolocation, offline features, and responsive layouts for mobile devices.

The important stuff you need to know:

  • Structure web pages more effectively. Learn how HTML5 helps web design tools and search engines work smarter.
  • Add audio and video without plugins. Build playback pages that work in every browser.
  • Create stunning visuals with Canvas. Draw shapes, pictures, and text; play animations; and run interactive games.
  • Jazz up your pages with CSS3. Add fancy fonts and eye-catching effects with transitions and animation.
  • Design better web forms. Collect information from visitors more efficiently with HTML5 form elements.
  • Build it once, run it everywhere. Use responsive design to make your site look good on desktops, tablets, and smartphones.
  • Include rich desktop features. Build self-sufficient web apps that work offline and store the data users need.

HASH(0x926afe10) von 5 Sternen A very useful book, both for studying and as a reference 30. März 2014
Von Andrew Jonca - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
I find the manual truly useful: lucid explanations, nicely thought out examples. Moreover, the online support allowing me to experiment with the examples code is very useful and superbly organized.
I often complain that programming books spend too much space explaining simple details and gloss over difficult issues. Another problem with such books is that they include programming examples that have too much dependence between chapters: you cannot study code in, say, chapter 6 without going over all details in chapter 3, 4, 5. This is usually too cumbersome approach.
However, this manual allows you to study any portion of it and select what you currently need most - very nice flow.

All in all - I would strongly recommend this book to anyone who wants to study HTML, and who wants to have nice reference to it.

HASH(0x9235d078) von 5 Sternen HTML5 clear and simple! 13. August 2014
Von Flukyspore - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
A perfect score for providing a manual that covers all current aspects of HTML5 in a clear and simple manner. The examples work perfectly and are well chosen without getting too complex.

As a comparison... I also read 'HTML5 in Action' published by Manning. Even though that book offers more detailed examples, I kept coming back to 'HTML5 The Missing Manual' to get a clearer understanding of what is happening in the rather complicated code snippets handled in the Manning book... e.g. indexedDB... very clearly explained with simple code in The Missing Manual. Great work thanks for sharing Matthew.

HASH(0x9235d2b8) von 5 Sternen Review of “HTML5: The Missing Manual” | MacDonald, M. 24. Januar 2014
Von norcyn - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
If you are looking to learn more about HTML5, then this book offered by O’Reilly Media, will definitely get you up and running in no time at all. “HTML5: The Missing Manual” is written by Matthew MacDonald, an experienced technical writer and programmer on and off the web. What I particularly love about this manual is the online resource made available to us for downloading all the files needed to follow along. Furthermore, you’ll find an extensive list of links to all the web sites referenced throughout the manual.

In Part One, you will discover how to structure your pages and seasoned HTML programmers will certainly appreciate the comparisons between the old and the new. Next, in Part Two, you will find the cool stuff! Have fun working with web forms, audio, video, drawing and animating with the Canvas, and of course styling with CSS3. Lastly, in Part Three, you will learn all about web apps including how to create offline applications and some JavaScript tricks. For those of you who are brand new to HTML programming, you may opt to start with the Appendixes. In Appendix A & B, MacDonald provides an introduction to both CSS and JavaScript.

You will definitely appreciate the browser support information provided – think of all the time you will save not having to do the research yourself. MacDonald suggests you go ahead and get started right away with developing web sites using HTML5 because even browsers as old as Internet Explorer 6, which is 10 years old and full of quirks, can display HTML5 documents.

HASH(0x9235d618) von 5 Sternen Great for entry level HTML5 programmers 27. August 2015

Its a nice entry level manual. I am new the HTML5 programming, and new to programming in general. This was easy to understand and the author presented the information very well. It may be mundane for an experienced HTML5 programmer, but it may work as a reference though.

The Missing Manual series is the best group of reference manuals I've found. Every one has been a tremendous help. And - nobody has given me any freebies. This is the "paid for with my own cash" opinion.
