4.0 von 5 Sternen HTML is not in Kansas anymore! 22. Februar 2015
Von Bruce A. Smith - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
On my monthly trek to the book store computer tome section I came across this book on HTML5. If you don't know what HTML is click the "back" button on your browser. As I started digesting the contents, I noticed that the pages are slick and there is color syntax highlighting of the various flavors of the code. Definitely better than average production values in technology books. The subject list covers: HTML5, HTML Dom APIs, Browser Based Apps, File Management, Messaging, Mobile Applications, HTML5 2D graphics, SVG, Video, Audio, WebGL, and some applied lower level graphics stuff.
All of the above elements are interwoven into a presentable exposure of the potential these technologies, If you are a graphics maven or a "to the metal"" HTML person, will this book appeal to you? Only in the realm that it illustrates how Web Document technology is marching off to the horizon, and provides a tantalizing "waist deep immersion in the pool" potential
The actual code is annotated using a technique that is not often seen, there are annotation balloons in the actual code (minus the balloon outline) which localizes the explanation adjacent to the implementation. The writing style has a smooth technical demeanor with out the loss of the technical information.
There are Web sites for Lady Gaga which are pictures and gossip text , the corporate, the interactive commercial, the Library of Alexandria style at Microsoft (every thing you wanted to know about what MS has in all their products) and the clever little sites which uses a lot of style for a little substances. HTML5 can improve all the above mentioned sites. This book is in the "should I move on to HTML5" vantage point. Wide coverage, but modest depth in each of the area of technology. Have been a software developer for 43 years, and I used it like a travel guide to the different avenues of technology. The actual HTML5 specific topics and code was what I expected, the new features practical and contemporary. It is a good book to get you pumped up and travel the HTML5, route, or enough to make you refresh your skill set. Only the 450 pages do not contain a multitude of tables and property syntax code lines. There are and will be reference manuals for that.
Can you build sites similar to the examples using this book, sure. Is it a bleeding edge of technology book, no! There is only enough "bits, bytes, baud, and buffers" geek speak to explain the examples. But it is a book that inspires me to port all my HTML to HTML5 and follow the standard closely. They say that people vote with their wallets, well this book has my vote, and of course, will cause me to spend more on books with the missing technical depth, or the "deep end of the pool:".

3.0 von 5 Sternen Interesting and full of complex examples 30. August 2014
Von Ken - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
The book has interesting examples; though, they tend to be overly complicated. The examples are mostly complete applications, not demonstrations that focus on singular concepts. The opposite of this writing style can be found in the series "You Don't know JS"; where, singular concepts are dissected with simple pointed examples that demonstrate complex behaviors. Possibly, authors of these types of books could take a page out of "The Definitive Guide to HTML5 WebSocket"; where, the authors deliver a Ubuntu OVA with all of the examples and dependencies loaded and working.
