5.0 von 5 Sternen Very informative and helpful 5. Juni 2014

This book "Guitar: How To Master This Instrument And Train Your Ear For Awesome Band Results," I can relate to as I played violin since the 3rd grade. This book was very easy for me to understand and by reading it I wanted to find my violin and retrain myself to learn again. You have to know and understand the notes of the song you’re playing because it makes playing the whole song a lot easier. It teaches how to learn to play by ear which is a key in any instrument you play. I could always tell if I wasn't playing the right tune, pitch, and even if my instrument needed tuning. What really drew me in (being as though I am a visual learner) was that it was easy to follow and used a lot of auditory imagery (for those who might not know is "a situation in which a person hears or experiences sound when nothing is actually making noise"). I would definitely recommend this book for beginners and even for those who know how but need a refresher.

Ever since my grandfather left me his acoustic guitar after he passed away 12 years ago, I have wanted to learn how to play. Unfortunately, I lack the ability (or rather the desire) to learn to read music, so it is something I have given up on. After seeing the title, I decided to give "Guitar: How To Master This Instrument And Train Your Ear For Awesome Band Results" a whirl. In true form, Barbara Steinhoff Schneider was extremely thorough and informative while explaining each of the tips and tricks for learning to master the aural side of playing the guitar. There's so much more that goes into playing this instrument than I would have ever thought, and while it would usually be overwhelming, Schneider's style of writing made everything very easy to understand. Hopefully now I'll actually have a chance to learn to use my guitar and make my grandfather proud!

3.0 von 5 Sternen Too much "what" not enough "how" 22. Januar 2015

This books seems like an extract of years of contemplation by the author on the subject of Mastering Guitar. As such, those who have been doing the same may be able to better relate to it.

It is more of a book on how to strategize getting better as opposed to following concrete steps to do so. Experienced players may be able to strategize better based on the material presented here. They may also be able to come up with their own specific exercises. Those who are not experienced, would not know how to take the information here and use it to develop their own custom exercises. These people need someone to tell them how to get better by following specific steps and exercises.

The book could also benefit from a spell and grammar check.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Quick read 26. Dezember 2014

Decent content but really more of a chapter for a more comprehensive book versus something stand alone to help you play. She presents some good ideas but no substitute for lots of practice because, as I see it, there is no way around putting in your time to learn guitar and mastery takes many many years. Realized this in its entirety in about 20 minutes.

The author Ms. Schneider was quite thorough in presenting some wonderful tips, techniques, and advice for the aspiring guitarist. If you really want to become great at playing the guitar so that you can be successful at starting your own band, this is a very useful guide. The suggestions for ear training were very practical and also easy to follow. I do want to learn how to play the guitar; however, I know I will probably have trouble reading notes then administering the proper fingering. Ms. Schneider gives useful advice when she suggests that you think of how the song is supposed to sound before striking a particular troublesome note. Other great tips on practicing and steps to start your own bad were also included. Additionally, this book will save you some money for those of you who are actually thinking of paying a whole lot for guitar lessons! With the author’s very encouraging words, you might star in your own band sooner than you think!
