TOP 5 AMAZON BESTSELLING MYSTERY/THRILLER!

OVER 250,000 BOOKS SOLD!

From a reader:
All of us with kindles watch for the bargains - admit it. I got this book because it was a bargain and had good reviews. It was simply put, terrific. The mystery was excellent from the get-go and the main character, Thomas Prescott, is very funny: "I'm not into politics. The last time I voted was for Carrie Underwood."

In the opening scene, Prescott is in Maine suffering from depression on Thanksgiving. He hops a plane to his home town of Seattle and almost immediately finds a dead body adrift on the shore outside his boyhood home. Even though he is an ex-cop and retired consultant to the FBI, he can't keep his hands out of the investigation. The investigation leads him to different suspects, investigators, supporting cast members and locales.

The book has the very good mystery, the excellent main character, very good supporting characters (no matter how minor, none are cutouts) and there is the added element of a bit of science thrown into the mix. To divulge it would be a small spoiler, so I won't, but I always like to learn a bit of something while being thoroughly entertained.

Halfway through the book I ordered Mr. Pirog's other two books. I then thought: "Uh oh, what if the ending isn't any good?" After the ending, I was even happier I will have two more of Mr. Pirog's books to look forward to reading. --Richard A. Mitchell

Book Description:
MEET THOMAS.
THOMAS IS HAVING A ROUGH GO.
HIS GIRL LEFT HIM.
HE'S ALONE ON THANKSGIVING.
HE'S OUT OF WAFFLES.
AND NOW SOMEONE IS TRYING TO KILL HIM.

His love life in shambles, Thomas Prescott returns to Seattle, the very place he fled from after his parents' deaths nearly a decade earlier. Just as Thomas is getting settled in, he sees a body floating in the private cove behind his boyhood home. It is a woman. But not just any woman. The governor of Washington.

As the suspense ratchets, and the twists unfold, Thomas is thrown into the middle of the biggest murder investigation in Washington state history. Prescott is forced to confront the demons from his past and unearths a new enemy, one that couldn't possibly be human, one that has haunted man since the dawn of time...

More reviews:
Pirog engages readers with a tight plot, well-developed characters, historical context, and just enough pop culture to keep you begging for more. Thomas Prescott is witty, arrogant -yet generous, and operates on just enough id to make him adorable. He is my favorite naughty character by far! Every page begs to be turned, every chapter begs to be completed, and the end leaves you begging for the next book! --Tami

I read approximately 8-10 books a month and have for years so that should give an idea of how impressed I am with his author. I am writing this review because this author DESERVES to be read. Refreshingly funny, quirky and still produces a many layered well thought out mystery thriller. "Gray Matter" adds even more than just chuckles and a thought provoking who done it, this story even went as far as to throw in tears. I was mesmerized from the first page by not only the main plot but by the sub plot as well, the ending left me surprised and with tears in my eyes. WOW! --Tif Saucer

HASH(0x8e155264) von 5 Sternen If you love mystery and humor. This is the series for you. 14. Juli 2011
Von Christy Hughes - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Nick Pirog is a fantastic new talent. I enjoyed both of his novels equally. They are well crafted, quickly paced, and highly entertaining. I especially appreciated Thomas Prescott's hilarious sense of humor. Both Unforscene and Gray Matter remind me of the Elvis Cole series by Robert Crais. I wish Amazon would do more to promote this young author. These books are so much better than the "cookie cutter" murder mysteries that are being put out by some of the "big name" bestselling authors. Please give these books a try. You won't be disappointed.

This is the second Nick Pirog book I've read and only the second review I've ever written. The first review being Mr. Pirog's first novel, "Unforeseen". I read approximately 8-10 books a month and have for years so that should give an idea of how impressed I am with his author. I am writing this review because this author DESERVES to be read. Refreshingly funny, quirky and still produces a many layered well thought out mystery thriller. I was mesmerized from the first page by not only the main plot but by the sub plot as well, the ending left me surprised and with tears in my eyes. WOW! I have his third novel "Arrival" already downloaded and can't wait to get it started. I hope this writer keeps writing because this is one reader who will keep reading his work!

HASH(0x8e155594) von 5 Sternen Great New Detective 4. September 2011
Von Aarwin - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
First, I have to say this book was great. If it were not for some erroneous information about the habits of the shy, beautiful North American Grey Wolf, I wouldn't have hesitated to give it a five star rating. Pirog is a refreshing new voice in the mystery genre, and his detective Thomas Prescott is unique. Gray Matter and Pirog's previous book Unforseen are a marvelous departure from the stereotypes of some of the more successful,
prolific and increasingly similar best sellers we have had to endure lately.

In Gray Matter Thomas Prescott has run away from the heartbreak and bloody memories in Philly to his family home in Seattle, Washington. No longer a cop, no longer an FBI consultant, he is basically intent upon denning up and nursing his considerable wounds. When a chance stroll along the cliffs reveal a body floating in the surf, Prescott is plunged into the mystery of the murder of Washington's female governor. From then on it's high priced lawyers, beautiful female cops, a sassy forest service ranger, an old enemy from the past, and one bloody murder after another.

If you are looking for a fast-paced, surprise-a-minute mystery with an unexpected twist at the end, this is the book for you. As gratifying as Gray Matter is as a top-notch mystery, the human-interest story intertwined with it is even more appealing. Add Nick Pirog to your list of "must reads."

I stumbled across this book by pure chance and I'm so very glad I did. I could go on about the mufti-layered story-line and the wonderfully twisted sense of humor of the main character, but instead I think I'll just copy & paste the comment I posted to the authors Facebook page last night.

"A close friend of mine is having a really hard time right now. I gave her a copy of your book, hoping it would raise her spirits. She called me late last night, crying. All I could make out was...."my phone is almost dead" and something about a message on her answering machine. I had my keys in my hand and was heading for the door when I realized she wasn't crying.....she was laughing! And there wasn't a message on her answering machine......she was reading the first chapter of your book! Thank you so much, for making my friend laugh"

I'm probably not supposed to do this, but I can blame in on my being a novice. In regards to the review that criticized the use of "the Puget Sound". It's a book meant for enjoyment, not the manual for the United Nations, Jeeezzzz. ~ Zondra Dunaway

HASH(0x8e155378) von 5 Sternen I'm moving on from this author 2. Dezember 2015
Von MikenSueNY - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

Sorry, but I just can't get into this author's books. Let me clarify - I did read it through, I just didn't care much for it. The shame is that I actually enjoyed some of the humor, and it's hard to find a good murder mystery with humor. However, some of it is so juvenile it just made me uncomfortable for the supposedly adult character saying the not-so-funny lines. In one case, he actually puts himself and another person's life at risk just in order to say something he thought was funny, i.e. something a 7-year old would say. Another problem I found was that there were too many unexplained things that just wouldn't happen. Without risking too many spoilers (in case you still want to read it), the main character goes to a house that has been abandoned for 8 years. For some reason, the electricity is still on and the phone is still hooked up. There is no explanation of who is paying for this or why. He turns on the water because of course none of the pipes have burst or anything in that time, and the water is brown. Still, he takes a shower (in brown water???) and uses a towel that has been hanging on the towel rack for 8 years! Wouldn't that be just a tad dusty? Maybe he didn't notice, since he was just wiping off brown water. In case I thought I missed something, he calls the plumber the next day to fix the brown water issue, so no, I didn't miss it. Then some guy calls on the phone, the main character answers it, and even though this caller is a total stranger, the main character goes to see him and bring him stuff. Huh? That was just a way to get this character introduced so he could tell a sub-story a la Nicholas Sparks. Didn't work for me. Now for my biggest pet peeve.... definite SPOILER ALERT here. I have now read two of Nick Pirog's books. In both, the main male character meets two drop-dead gorgeous women who, of course, fall for him in spite of his lack of maturity or personality. How to resolve this? Easy - one of them dies, and the main character moves on with that little conundrum behind him. Whew! Crisis avoided. YUCK!
