Über den Autor und weitere Mitwirkende

Francis I. Regardie, born in London, England, November 17, 1907; died in Sedona, Arizona, March 10, 1985.  Came to the United States in August 1921, educated in Washington D.C. and studied art in school in Washington and Philadelphia.  Returned to Europe in 1928 at the invitation of Aleister Crowley to work as his secretary and study with him.  Returned to London as secretary to Thomas Burke 1932-34, and during that time wrote A Garden of Pomegranates and The Tree of Life.
In 1934 he was invited to join the Order of the Golden Dawn, Stella Matutina Temple, during which time he wrote The Middle Pillar and The Art of True Healing, and did the basic work for The Philosopher's Stone.
Returning to the United States in 1937 he entered Chiropractic College in New York, Graduating in 1941, and published The Golden Dawn.  Served in the U.S. Army 1942-1945, and then moved to Los Angeles where he opened a chiropractic practice and taught psychiatry.  Upon retirement in 1981, he moved to Sedona.
During his lifetime, he studied psychoanalysis with Dr. E. Clegg and Dr. J. L. Bendit, and later studied psychotherapy under Dr. Nandor Fodor.  His training encompassed Freudian, Jungian and Reichian methods.

Both Chic and Tabatha are Chief Adepts of the Golden Dawn as re-established by Israel Regardie. The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, of which Chic is the G.H. Imperator, and Tabatha is the G.H. Cancellaria, is an international Order with Temples in several countries. The Ciceros have written numerous books on the Golden Dawn, Tarot, and Magic, including Self-Initiation into the Golden Dawn Tradition, The Essential Golden Dawn, Tarot Talismans, and updates, annotations and introductions to classic Israel Regardie texts such as The Philosopher's Stone, The Middle Pillar and A Garden of Pomegranates.

Symbols have always been used in the mystical tradition to express spiritual truths that cannot be properly expressed in words. The founders of the Qabalah created a particularly elegant system of symbols, numbers and the figure of the Tree of Life to convey their insights.
The word "skrying" means "to see" or "observe" and refers to the type of clairvoyance where use is made of mirrors, crystals, water in a bowl (like Galadriël in Lord of the Rings) or the tarot, to concentrate and focus psychic abilities in order to receive and interpret visions in the normal state of waking consciousness.
Regardie published this work in 1932 as an easy albeit comprehensive guide to the complex system of the Qabalah and to serve as a key to its symbolism. The primary symbol of this ancient Hebrew system is the tree of life that has been used for centuries as a means to study the nature of the cosmos and the qualities of the psyche.
With its emphasis on direct experience by meditating on the paths of wisdom, this is a most understandable introduction to the Qabalah. The editors have enhanced this classic work with their commentary, notes and a system of reference and have added practical material in the form of meditations, exercises, rituals and mantras.
Garden of Pomegranates is an excellent book for those interested in the working of the mind, in psychology, parapsychology and for practicians of the magical arts. This edition contains a glossary, bibliography and index. The text is enhanced by 52 beautiful illustrations and figures.

This book is the single best introduction to the Qabalah for Occultists and Magicians. It details the fundamentals of the Holy Qabalah in plain English. All of the information originally left out by Regardie has been provided by the Ciceros, who themselves have quite a name in the Occult books industry. Other great books to check out: Self Initiation into the Golden Dawn Tradition, The Middle Pillar (The Balance Between Mind and Magic), The Golden Dawn.

I have read and studied the Cicero's published works for many years and this book is simply superb. This expands and elaberates on Israel Regardie's original "A Garden of Pomegranates" without taking away from the author's true vision of his work. The book covers in depth the paths and spheres on the tree of life, along with the symbolism associated with them. If you have to get only one book on the cabala make it this one.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Great book but... 10. März 2016

I found this to be a great book and useful as an aide to one interested in the Qabalah and "guided visualizations" on the tree of life. It should also help with meditations as well.

So why only 3 stars? The reason why I give this three stars is because of all the excessive endnotes. They are over the top! It makes the book at points a little difficult to read as it is extremely distracting. There are points where no footnote needs to be given! When you have over 2 pages of footnotes that simply talk about an author of another book that includes his bio, what he wrote, etc. but it does not show exactly how that author pertains to the point that was originally made. Often times there are 5 endnotes in a single sentence! I often had to reread entire sections do the exessive endnotes. There are also endnotes that add nothing to the text and just simply add content and state the obvious!

If you could get an original copy I would recommend it, but you won't necessarily get the exercises at the end which I feel are useful.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Good Intro To QBL 14. März 2015

My review is of the Llewellyn High Magick edition. The book is generally well written, and worthy of study. It is not a quick read - even though it is a short book. Rather, it is a book that requires some level of meditation and introspection. Walking the reader through a brief history of QBL as well as the rationale and structure of common correspondences, the book is invaluable for framing up many diverse structures and disciples in a framework that makes real sense and transcends culture and approach.

A good intro book - even if a bit convoluted and difficult to follow in spots. Well worth the used price.

In case one already has a good working knowledge of the Tree of Life then the second half of the book pertaining to the path workings is what makes this book worth a buy. Besides that it's an excellent piece of literature to add to a library.
4.0 von 5 Sternen A Good Reference to Go Along With a Beginner's Guide 1. Februar 2013

This is a good reference on the Tree of Life and its other hermetic correlations.
However, I would recommend different text for beginners. Maybe text from Bardon, Key to the True Kabbalah would serve as a good introduction, as would Dion Fortune's text, The Mystical Qabalah. Use this as a companion, not as a sole source.
And I'm not sure how I feel about the Cicero's commentaries and additions. Take what you want, leave the rest, I guess. I do like Regardie's writing styles and continue to reference his books, despite the additions that have been done by Chic and Tabitha to his books.
