1.0 von 5 Sternen Weak Storyline --Waste of Money 29. Januar 2013
Von JAC - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
I bought this book last year for $3.99 (not worth it) and to date, I haven't read the whole book. As a devoted P&P variation fan, I enjoyed very much anything and read any variation about my two favorite characters, Darcy and Elizabeth but I even have my limit. Whether they fall in love early, middle or later in the story with a few adversities thrown in, I am game. So I didn't mind the complete alternative beginning of the book which has the appearance of a good storyline. However, in no time at all, I became frustrated with the weak storyline, no substance and never properly developed poor structure and poor editing. What I have read so far doesn't induce me to believe the storyline or editing is going to get any better and just gave up! For once, I wished I had paid attention to some of the poor reviews instead of ignoring them.

I don't know about the author's other P&P variation but this book is definitely "NOT WORTH THE PRICE". Too bad I missed the 7 day returned policy deadline for full credit. Since I still have the book on my Kindle, who knows, maybe one of these days and unlike Mrs. Bennett, my poor nerves will have enough compassion for me to finish it:)

3.0 von 5 Sternen Cute - a pleasant surprise (closer to 2 1/2 stars) 20. Januar 2011
Von Mark - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
I found this P&P variation to be quick, entertaining, and relatively painless; which actually is saying a lot with all of the terrible variations out there. Speaking of "terrible," I was happily surprised by this novel after realizing only after I had purchased it that it was written by the same author of 'Bargain with the Devil' -- easily the worst book I have ever read in my life. It was so horrible that I actually threw it in the garbage rather than donating it to the library where some other poor, unsuspecting reader might come across it.

I am being generous with the 3 stars because this novel demonstrates tremendous improvement on the part of the writer. She is not quite there yet, but she is getting better.

Overall, this novel could have been quite a bit longer. She definitely has a plot going, but more of it should have been illustrated through the action rather than discussed by the characters. The protagonists draw many conclusions through inferences or supposition.

Also, had the book been longer, the relationship between Darcy and Elizabeth could have been developed. Is it a spoiler to mention that the fall in love in this novel? Well, I guess it is a bit of a spoiler to say that Elizabeth tells Darcy that he is the last man in the world she would ever marry, and five days later they are holding hands, hugging, and kissing. They fall in love so quickly that much of the dialog is their discussing, gosh, I can't believe how quickly we fell in love! Yeah, well, neither could I. It does seem silly, however, to quibble over that when the reader is asked to suspend disbelief to accept most of the plot points.

The plot strains credibility, but the entertainment factor balances it out (at least until one part of the epilogue that really went over the top). It's fun, it's cute, it's not the best, but it is better than most of the P&P variations out there -- primarily because it does have a plot, and an original one at that.

A couple of other nit-picky things: Darcy calls Elizabeth by her name before they are even engaged; they flaunted propriety without a second thought as regards their blossoming attraction; I don't think the author knows what a corset is; and rubies and garnets are two different gemstones.

After having read two books by this author, I now know that she likes to dress women as men; and she really, really, really hates Caroline Bingley.

Some R-rated sexual content.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Interesting premise... 15. Mai 2011
Von Jana Lucero - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
I read this book several months ago on my kindle. While the story had an interesting premise, it was difficult to read because of the quality of the writing. If you have read other books by this author you will find that her writing form is not the best and bears little resemblance to Austen.

Enid Wilson favors more tawdry stories, and while I certainly don't mind, the stories are not developed as they could be and often feel rushed towards to the ending.

Still enjoyable and fairly cheap on the Kindle.

2.0 von 5 Sternen Oh man, I love Elizabeth and Darcy, but... 6. Januar 2011
Von Fergie - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

I am hooked on Pride and Prejudice variations, but it took a long time to get into this story because the writing style was just so poorly done. About 1/2 way through I could get into the story without focusing on the choppy sentences. Yah the story line is a bit goofy but it was entertaining enough, however, this author really gave me the feeling I should write a book myself because apparently anything goes in terms of style, structure and grammar. Based on that I would have given 0 stars but I'm a sucker for anything Pride and Prejudice and I did crack up a few times at the insanity of Caroline Bingley. I'd say unless you're really missing your favorite characters and need a hit of Darcy wait for a new release or pick a different author. For those of us that have read them all and even read a few two or three times because they keep printing em under different titles, I guess for this price, go for it. :)
4.0 von 5 Sternen Not really a P&P book 4. September 2013
Von SNM - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
As just a book/novel, it was good, but as a P&P variation it dis not come up to standrads. P&P is my favorite book EVER! And just speaking about the "twist" I think it puts Austen to shame.

I rated this book as just that a mystery/romace novel with similar names, not as a P&P twist or whatever.

But to be honest the cover is SOOOOO BAD!!!!!
