Army Ranger Slater Cassidy has a very special – very sexy – target in his sights. Meeting gorgeous, smart, uber-snarky Casper Kennedy was the highlight of Slater’s last trip home to New York. The soldier in him carefully plans his conquest. Unfortunately, Casper’s wearing some seriously strong armor and Slater’s charm offensives bounce right off. Casper’s refusal to fall for him is puzzling – not to mention incredibly annoying. When Slater gets leave again after grueling back-to-back tours in Afghanistan, all he wants is another shot at wooing Casper. He jumps right into the battle for the other man’s heart, but Casper does not intend to entertain the troops. A heartbreaking revelation changes the rules of romantic warfare, and Slater suddenly realizes he doesn’t just want Casper. He wants to capture his heart, too.

Casper Kennedy is fighting a losing battle. A certain outrageously demonstrative Army Ranger has been a thorn in his side since his last trip home – and the main character in his steamiest dreams. Now he’s back. He launches an all-out sensual assault and no matter how hard Casper pushes Slater away, the man somehow manages to inch closer. So close, in fact, that Casper’s once-impenetrable defenses are in danger of collapsing. Should he throw up the white flag and take a chance at love? Or start firing back and keep his heart protected? When the handsome Ranger shows his true colors, Casper just might have to surrender the fight.

Casper is in advertising and works in a firm where his immediate boss, Blaine, is gay and engaged to Spencer. Spencer has bi-sexual brother Slater, a Ranger in the military, who took one look at Casper and knew he was the man for him. Casper, however, is never going to give into the pressure Slater is putting on him for a date. He was going to marry a soldier, Mason, but he was killed in action. Mason's family wouldn't allow Casper to go to the funeral so he grieves in private every Memorial Day, Veteran's Day, holidays and Mason's birthday. He can't lose a love like that again, and he can't move on from Mason.
Casper, however, has not realized saying no to Slater is not going to make him go away. Mason sends a stripper to Casper's work, he sends singing telegrams, he sends the movie Casper, he puts Casper's face on the side of a truck...get the idea? Slater is home on leave from a combat zone but still has a mission - Get Casper. Everyone is in on it and the last straw for Casper is when Slater is hired as a male model for a campaign he has been working on for so long - so he gives in gracefully.
Slater and Mason had used the same tactics to get Casper which started the wall falling to let Slater in and they become lovers. Slater returns to combat but tragedy strikes his unit and things won't ever be the same again.
It is a nice read, bit tear jerker material, bit laugh material. The third in the Men of Manhattan series and I think they need to be read in order to make sense because there are a cross of characters.

Everything about this book is designed to make cheer and cry , you're crying for a good reason i promise. We've all been waiting for Slater to get his chance and now we have it and boy it was worth the wait. Casper does not make it easy for sure, with good reason, but Slater proves to be irresistible. Sandrine has given us another book full of twists that also twist your heart around and you are glad for it. I can't wait to see what she does next ^_^

A Fighting Man is book three in Sadrine Gasq-Dion's Men of Manhattan series. This was a cute, sweet little novella. It is short enough to read in one sitting and low angst enough to enjoy regardless of my frame of mind at the time. There is a little angst, can't have a romance novella without it; just not enough to bring me down.
As a sequel, it was good to catch up with the characters in the previous two books. One of the main characters in A Fighting Man is the brother of one of the main characters in A Marrying Man. Slater Cassidy and Casper Kennedy actually met in the previous book, but this is their entire story.
Since Slater laid eyes on Casper, he has wanted him. He is an Army Ranger on deployment in Afghanistan, but that doesn't stop him from pursuing Casper relentlessly. He tries everything from flowers to a strip-o-gram to win Casper's affections.
Casper has suffered a deeply painful loss in his past. One that has made him determined to close off his heart, especially to a soldier. He has to admit that he finds Slater almost irresistible. He is front and center in many of Casper's solitary fantasies.
Both of these characters are funny, sexy, smart, and my personal favorite, sarcastic wise-asses. Ms. Gasq-Dion has written some very funny, fast paced dialogue between the two men and also the supporting characters in this story.
A tragedy occurs that brings up painful memories and feelings for Casper and brings out the worst in Slater. Watching them both struggle to overcome their emotional and physical hurdles was a really good read. In a book like this, you kind of know how it is going to end, but getting there was great fun this time around.
A few secondary characters that we meet in A Fighting Man are prime candidates for books of their own. I could see another couple of books in this series. I will be one of the first on line to buy them if they come about. The Men of Manhattan are an enjoyable lot and I hope to read more of them.

4.5 of 5 stars~ Review by Caroline

This is the third book in the Men Of Manhattan Series and is about Casper and Slater. I was really looking forward to this one. Sweet Casper with an aura of sadness about him and brash Slater always looking for the next hook-up.

This book is a lot more emotional than the previous two books. We learn how Casper has dealt with rejection, death and crushing loneliness, how he has turned inward on himself and built so many walls to prevent more hurt in his life, that he is just existing. He goes to the gym, he goes to work and he goes home to a cold apartment and sad existence.

Slater is larger than life, relentless and hugely annoying to Casper. He is determined to have Casper as another notch on the bedpost. Somewhere along the way it becomes more than just a chase and when he shows his true nature Casper has difficulty saying no to the man. He is also a Ranger and on active duty, dicing with death every day.

As is always the case in Sandrines book the secondary characters are fantastic. Slaters parents are supportive and loving and Casper realises he is not all alone in this world and that it is ok to depend on people. It is also nice to see couples from the previous books and to get a little clue about who is next. Hopefully Drakon! Slaters best friend Ramos is a true inspiration and will have a huge impact on you with his utter resilience and love of life

This story will make you laugh, cry and laugh again. It is a story that shows us sometimes the things that terrify us most, actually happen, but that we can come back from them with the help and support of friends and loved ones. It is not an easy ride for either of these guys, but then no one ever said love ran smoothly. They have to work hard, face their demons, and hope the results are worth it!

Great addition to the series.

Slater Cassidy has one goal on his rapidly approaching thirty day leave, get Casper Kennedy into his life by any means possible. He just has to have Casper and his wit with the side of attitude that makes him completely irresistible to Slater. The mission is simple and this sexy Army Ranger knows how to do get the job done. Slater is willing to go to any lengths to get Casper in his arms. It is these lengths that he goes to that bring many laughs to the pages of A Fighting Man. It is the attitude toward life that Slater has that makes you want this man to get his man.
Now let’s get on to the fighting. Casper is a fighter. (You were thinking soldier hottie was the fighter wasn’t you) Casper fights Slater every inch of the way. It is all with good reason though and it works so well with where Gasq-Dion is going with this flirty, sexy, fun tale. Casper knows heartache. Casper also thinks he knows what a player Slater is. He sees the fun side of the possibility of Slater. He (and everyone else) can’t help but see the insanely attractive side Slater. Casper also sees the potential hurt. Casper being the man he is tries his best to resist the temptation that is Slater.
A Fighting Man is written in first point of view. This is typically something that leaves me wanting more perspective. Sandrine did something I’ve only seen a couple of times, she switched between Casper and Slater. This is something that is clearly marked and the switch occurs at the beginning of a new chapter. Done this way I was never left wondering which of these men was in control.
The third installment in Sandrine Gasq-Dion’s Men of Manhattan series easily works as a standalone. The couples from the previous books are mentioned or have small secondary parts. Any reader can go into this one and thoroughly enjoy it regardless of not having read the others.
