"The Strat was and still is the most recognizable image, sound, and pioneering guitar to ever make music. The first time I saw a Strat was with Buddy Holly and the Crickets on "The Ed Sullivan Show." At the same time, I got a copy of "Out of the Shadows" from England and saw my first red Strat. The sound had me hooked."--Randy Bachman, from the foreword The Fender Stratocaster just may be the ultimate guitar. Curvaceous and stylish. Anatomically perfect for playing. Three pickups and a whammy bar. Tone to die for. And somewhere along the way, it changed the world of music. In the hands of players from Eldon Shamblin to Stevie Ray Vaughan, Ike Turner to Jimi Hendrix, Buddy Guy to Eric Clapton, the Stratocaster has been central to country, blues, punk, rock 'n' roll, even jazz. Here is the complete story of this legendary["ultimate" used above] guitar. Packed with more than 700 photos and memorabilia, plus profiles of the great Strat players, this book is a suitable tribute to the Stratocaster. Dig in and feel the music. "I mostly play the Fender Stratocaster. I like its body shape, the sense of manipulation, its clarity. I've been playing Strats pretty much my whole life."--Lenny Kaye

I love this book! I collect books on guitars and I believe I have most of them if not all. A strat in any colour looks great; and this book does not disappoint at all. If you are a strat lover like me, then this is the book for you. If you like to see my book collection then here it is.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Stratophiles will enjoy this but for the price it falls a tad short. 24. Juni 2014

After having bought Dave Hunter's campanion book -The Fender Telecaster - I was eagar to receive this addition to my 'all things Fender' library. I also have a couple of other publications authored by Mr Hunter so I assumed his effort on the Stratocaster would be of similar depth. Certainly, the photography is outstanding and his ability to source so many rare and vintage instruments is testimony to his dedication. However, Dave's latest effort is, surprisingly, riddled with typos (careless proof reading) and even some factual errors, or certainly information that conflicts with other Fender officionados. I also deducted a Star, as much of the final part of the book was 'cut and pasted' from his Telecaster effort. Perhaps that made sense but it gave the impression that the book has a 'knock off' flavour to it which the price tag didn't reflect. Anyway, despite my 'nit picking' I still enjoyed it and some of the profile info on many of the featured 'Strat' exponents was enlightening.

Need I say more? Ok, I will. Giant beautiful pictures with great commentary and stories. I've read LOTS of Strat books, this had a lot of info that I didn't know about. That's what I like.

This is a general review of three books from the same author and publisher covering the Les Paul, Stratocaster, and Telecaster. I am not a big fan of the broken narrative that is used throughout these books - especially when the major narrative sometimes repeats what is found in the "guitar bios". The choice of artists profiled is sometimes baffling. Without specifics, I had to wonder what contribution some of these "artists" have made to guitar playing. Better profiles of any of the artists can probably be found in Wiki (although I did not check each one). It would have been more interesting to list the bands the artists played with and the rigs they have used. The historical description of the development of each model left something to be desired - perhaps actual pictures of the models over time would have been better. The technical portion of each book should also have been more pictoral - as the descriptions were too curt. For example, why does one type of pickup produce a different sound than another or why is one type of magnet preferable to another. The books are not a bad read but they could have been much better.
