I take a fancy for stories that catch my breath. Lisa Gardner's Fear Nothing qualifies as one of them. She is very descriptive and engaging and her plot is clever and and well laid out. I also like the way she developed her characters, which all add up to me this story the bestseller that it is. Fear Nothing fulfills its page-turner purpose like Lone Survivor, Triple Agent Double Cross, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I have my sights for other Lisa Gardner stories.

HASH(0x9c435d14) von 5 Sternen Huge Fan Annoyed with Repetitive Elements 18. Januar 2014
Von Deb J. Ledford - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe Verifizierter Kauf
I am a die-hard Lisa Gardner Fan and have read every one of her mystery novels. It pains me to say that I just didn't enjoy her latest very much. D.D. Warren is one of my favorite Gardner characters, and she didn't disappoint--always hard-as-nails, going beyond the call of duty, this time with a debilitating injury that restricts every action and decision. However, the numerous repetitive passages killed the read for me. This one could have used a good editor to trim elements that became quite annoying as the book progressed.

HASH(0x9c435f60) von 5 Sternen I can't believe I'm about to say this about a Lisa Gardner book but... 16. Januar 2014

It was one of the worst, most preposterous books I have read in a long, long time. And, this is coming from a long-time Lisa Gardner book who has read and loved every book she has ever written. In a genre where female characters often do silly things, I always appreciated the fact that Ms. Gardner's characters never made me want to shake my head and scream, "No thinking, rational person would EVER do that!" No more. It wasn't just Adeline either. I really liked the Warden (?) character--She seemed smart and capable. and I was definitely interested in knowing more about her...Right up until she was part of a scene that was so unbelievable it bordered on flat-out absurd. I am not often frustrated by a book but I was this one. I expect a smartly written book when I read a Lisa Gardner book and this just wasn't it. Very disappointed.

HASH(0x9c435f24) von 5 Sternen Sinister, riveting & the best DD Warren book to date 8. Januar 2014

Disclaimer: My sincere thanks to NetGalley and The Penguin Group - Dutton for providing me with a complimentary e-book copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

My Review: Lisa Gardner is well known for her suspenseful reads filled with interesting characters, twists and turns as well as some edge of your seat action thrown in for good measure. This book doesn't disappoint.

This wasn't my first time reading a book in Gardner's D.D Warren series but this is definitely my favourite book featuring D.D. While it had Ms Gardners' signature suspenseful writing it also had a very sinister, eerie feel to it. Yup. It was ultra creepy {inner shiver} and kept me on the edge of my seat the entire read.

Lisa Gardner is not only known for her suspenseful writing but she's also known as being very adept at letting her readers really get to know her characters. She doesn't write one-dimensional characters that are easy to predict. D.D, Adeline and Shana were all very detailed characters, each with their own very distinct issues and voices within the book. Readers get glimpses into the characters' lives, motivations, thoughts and actions but at the same time the momentum of the storyline never feels bogged down. The mark of a great suspense writer.

In "Fear Nothing", Gardner addresses the 'nature versus nurture' issue but within a very chilling context and I was quite riveted throughout the entire book. There were plenty of twists and turns to keep this reader from guessing 'whodunnit' until very close to the end.

My Rating: 4/5 stars

HASH(0x9c43a2d0) von 5 Sternen Full of Plot Holes 19. März 2014
Von Amazon Customer - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
*Contains some Spoilers*

This is one of the worse D.D. Warren novels. It is so full of plot holes it is not even funny. First, D.D. was suppose to have an injured arm. She says her pain is at a "14" on a 1-10 scale. However, it seems miraculously a day or two later she is running to crime scenes, she Is bending down to pick up evidence. This from a woman who couldn't even poor a cup of coffee for herself. Second, we never do find out why the killer was singing the lullaby "Rock a bye Baby." I thought that might give us some insight into the killer, but it never did. Next, we never do find out the significance of the crime scene (the rose, the champagne, the cuffs). My only guess is that the killer wanted to make a "trade mark" for himself. There are other avenues the detectives explored such as going to the morgue and seeing if any workers had an "interests" in corpses but that never seemed like it was fully explored (like they just dropped it). Also, they said that the killer probably had hunting experience or experience in the medical field. However, our killer didn't have either of those things. I don't know if that was a red herring to throw us off, or Jackson forgot about that clue. Overall, I am willing to suspend believe for some of these things, but it seems like a good chunk of things were just thrown in the story and never explained! I was also disappointed with who the killer was. I felt like his "motive" was really lacking. I wish she would have went a different direction with this book because the premise was really good at first.

HASH(0x9c43a5f4) von 5 Sternen Inconsistencies, Gore and Matricide. Fear everything in this book. 6. März 2014
Von Bookfan - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe
The worst book I've ever read by this author. Not to give too much away but, one of the main characters claims to be highly influenced by events that happened to her and her family when she was just short of one year old. Those events are still having a major impact on her life even though 40 years have passed since they occurred. This book has so many inconsistencies that it reads like it's written by a novice author. The beginning of the book is all about D.D.'s pain from a nasty fracture suffered at a crime scene. Her pain is so great that just getting out of bed in the morning is an excruciating ordeal. We are told numerous times that she cannot hold her son, hug her husband or do anything that even comes close to normal. Then, almost abruptly, we stop hearing about it and D.D. begins to run all over town with her partner chasing down leads even though she supposed to be on medical leave. The bad guy in this story is a joke and his reasons for being a bad guy are ludicrous. And the ending? What a major disappointment. Lisa Gardner just really needs to get back on track.
