She’s the obsession two men share: one wants her love, the other wants her life.

A shared passion for justice first brought Baton Rouge district attorney Lauren Chandler and US marshal Anthony Ross together—when each played their part in bringing down the infamous Bayou Butcher. The sparks flying between the two made it clear they weren’t just a legal dream team. Then desire had to make way for duty, and what they had was done. But it would never be over.

Five years later, it’s none other than the Butcher who gets things started again, when his shocking jailbreak reunites the lawyer and the lawman…and reignites their love. But this time, the pair is in danger of being permanently parted—by a killer with revenge on his mind, and Lauren on the top of his list. As a new wave of terror sweeps through the streets and swamps of Baton Rouge, one man will pit his boundless passion against another’s relentless hate, for the life of the woman who obsesses them both.

3.0 von 5 Sternen The suspense a winner but the romance not so much.... 25. November 2013

Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
Mixed feelings on this one. The romance between Anthony, a US Marshall, and Lauren, the DA, was odd, emotionless for the first part of the bk and a bit on the dark side. HA! For a time I was wondering if the author was really gonna pull a “who done it” on Lauren and have the strangely obsessed Anthony do her in. So as far as the romance is concerned – this was a fail for me. I never connected with that relationship at all. There was more emotion from the FBI profiler than the cold heroine.

The suspense part of the story was pretty darn good. The story was out of balance for me putting the focus more on the thriller than the romance. After about a third of the way through I wasn’t sure that I wouldn’t just skim this one. But the suspense finally snagged my attention and had me hooked. Had to stay up late to finish just to find out the identity of the killer. Clever author puts the focus on so many people and leads the reader is so many different directions you’re not sure who the killer is until the very end. I love it when the author keeps me guessing.
Of course there’s an HEA for our odd couple and I’m glad they got the closure they were looking for. So despite the relationship disconnect there’s entertainment value in the suspense element. I’ll have to go with an overall rating of 3.5 stars.

Romance = 2.5
Suspense = 4.0
Rating =3.25 but I’ll bump to 3.5

5.0 von 5 Sternen ✨A taunting, hair-raising, yet seductive tale of obsession!✨ 12. November 2013

My rating: 5 of 5 ⭐️

When US Marshall, Anthony Ross, hears the Bayou Butcher has escaped from jail, his first thought is of Lauren Chandler. The Baton Rouge DA had been as instrumental as he himself had been in bringing down the serial killer just five years ago. But Jon Walker had had one last thing to say before he was taken off to serve his consecutive life's sentences, when he made Lauren a promise he would make her pay. Anthony's gut told him he needed to get to Lauren first.

Lauren has spent most of her adult life bringing monsters like Jon Walker to justice. Much of that has to do with some unresolved issues from her past. It also keeps her mostly to herself, at least it did until her affair with Anthony five years ago. He left and never looked back, leaving her devastated. Finding him in front of her again, obviously concerned with her safety and determined to put the Bayou butcher away for good this time, shakes her to the core. Finding the body of her best friend and learning of Walker's escape, have already decimated her resilience and she can't help but be drawn to the security Anthony offers.

Afraid of his absolute consumption with Lauren to the point of distracting him from his job, Anthony had walked away five years ago, hoping she would have a chance to move on and be happy. It was obvious that she had done no such thing and now that her safety was in constant jeopardy, he was not planning on leaving her side again. But keeping her from harm was proving to be a difficult task, when at every turn they are confronted with more bodies.

Despite the combined efforts of the US Marshall's office, the FBI and the local police force, it seems the killer remains one step ahead at all times. That is something Anthony and Lauren have their suspicions about.......

An AMAZING thrill-ride!!!

Such unexpected twists in this plot and some seriously disturbed individuals!! But also a scrumptious, protective, slightly damaged US Marshall, and a kick-ass, focused but fragile District Attorney, who create delicious friction and heat!

From the very first page of the book, I was perched on the edge of my seat and I didn't stop reading till I was done.....literally. Engrossed, is an appropriate term to describe my much so, I barely registered the plate of French Fries my hubby planted on my lap. That kind of complete abandon in a book does not happen often. It did here, and that is why I am giving it five glowing stars.

Their background for both Lauren and Anthony, was what held them back when they had been lovers previously. Lauren always determined to keep her focus on bringing down the criminals, would run hot in bed, but pull up a shield at any other time. Not afraid to show physical need, but too scared to out herself out there emotionally. That didn't mean she wasn't feeling it, she was simply not conveying it.

For Anthony, the intensity of his feelings for Lauren were a deterrent. His image of what love should be was a much lighter one than what he experienced being with her. It frankly scared him and it sent him running the first time around. This time he was going to stick, he had no intention of walking away again and was determined to show Lauren, while trying not to scare her off.

Without giving too much away, I will tell you this about the Bayou Butcher.......He is one disturbed individual!! Or is he??

Great thriller and love story, beautifully balanced into a fabulous book!!!

✨A taunting, hair-raising, yet seductive tale of obsession!✨

5.0 von 5 Sternen Cynthia Eden AT HER BEST! A MUST READ FOR THOSE THAT LIKE ROMANTIC SUSPENSE 14. November 2013
Von Kindle Customer - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Kindle Edition
"Love could be twisted for some...And love could be dark and dangerous and perfect for others."

Five years ago, Lauren and Anthony worked together to bring down Jon Walker, the Bayou Butcher, a serial killer that murdered women in the Baton Rouge area of LA. Anthony was a US Marshall and helped apprehend the killer. Lauren worked in the Districts Attorney's office and prosecuted the case...During that time, Lauren and Anthony had a passionate affair that ended when Anthony left town. Fear for Me picks up five years later when the Bayou Butcher escapes from prison and once again threatens the residents of Baton Rouge. Lauren and Anthony must work together to find the killer. But this time, the Butcher wants Lauren. Anthony must keep her safe while facing the truth about his feelings for her, once and for all.

"The way I feel about you--it's wild and it's dark. I want you with me all the time. I want your body, your heart. I want you to need me as much as I need you." It _______ sounded like obsession, and that wasn't what he wanted. He was trying to explain that it was more than just a dark need. He's discovered it was more.

Fear for Me is Cynthia Eden at her best. For fans of Cynthia Eden that are familiar with her other books, I'd compare the suspense portion of the story to her Deadly series. I was pulled in from the first chapter and stayed glued to my kindle until the very end. Each time I thought I knew what was coming next, the story would take an unexpected turn. At one point, I wasn't sure who the good guys were and who the bad guys were. The story kept me guessing the whole time. The surprises just kept coming. The romance part of the story, specifically Anthony's character, reminded me of Cynthia Eden's Mine series. Anthony shares similar traits with the ubber alpha hero's from that series. He is sexy, edgy, and is almost obsessive in his feelings and need for Lauren. As a lover of all alpha males, Anthony was a character I loved.

"The women I've been with...they were you."

"That doesn't make any -"

"At first, it was because I was pissed at losing you. I didn't even realize why I was with the blonde." He glanced over his shoulder. "When I called her by your name, then I knew."

There was shock on her face.

"In the dark, they're always you." He knew it was screwed up. He was screwed up. His jaw locked. He'd pushed enough, and if he didn't get out of there right then, he wasn't sure he'd be able to walk away from her.

While the suspense is on point, the romance is equally as good.

"Right then, what he wanted most was her. His ____ stretched, thrusting toward her. In his mind, she was already naked. They were on the big desk. He was in her. His heart was a drumbeat pounding in his ears. Her scent seduced him, her body tempted him, and her tongue, her lips- they made him so hard. The kiss stopped being gentle. It became rougher. Wilder. Her taste was all he knew. All he craved."

Always a Cynthia Eden fan, I loved this book! I wish I would have done a re-read of Die for Me: A Novel of the Valentine Killer before reading Fear for Me since the books are tied together. I read Die for Me so long ago, I couldn't remember the details. If you enjoy reading romantic suspense and have the time, I'd recommend starting with Die for Me first. It absolutely is not necessary. Fear for Me works fine as a stand-alone but Anthony is first introduced in Die for Me and I always like to read stories in order, if possible. Both stories are very good and were five star reads. This is definitely a must read series and Scream for Me (planned for release in the Spring of 2014) will be at the top of my TBR list when it's available.

For Amazon Prime members, both Die for Me and Fear for Me are available for borrowing as part of the Prime program.

I wish I had used my time reading something less cheesy and would have stopped if I'd known it would only get worse. Even the sex scenes were boring.

1.0 von 5 Sternen Someone Actually Wrote This... 29. Januar 2014

So here we have the classic case of twin psychopaths hunting together in Baton Rouge. They are of course completely nuts and hack their victims to pieces, which Cynthia Eden does her very best to describe in as much detail as possible. But, let us not lose track of the subplot -- believe me, you can't: This is where a U.S. Marshal and the local D.A. have graphic sex with each other from about page one. Someone dies, they have sex. Another killing, sex. If it's sunny, sex. If it rains, sex. The outcome is completely predictable -- I won't tell you who the second psycho is -- we meet the Butcher on page 1 -- but if you haven't figured it out by page 3 you will really feel stupid. And then of course, there's always more graphic sex... Because after when we visit a crime scene where a victim is literally hacked to pieces, we all want to have mind-numbing sex... I was cheering for the Butcher.
