In the tradition of The Adventures of Peter Rabbit, this is a "garden tale" of farmer versus vermin, or vice versa. The farmers in this case are a vaguely criminal team of three stooges: "Boggis and Bunce and Bean / One fat, one short, one lean. / These horrible crooks / So different in looks / Were nonetheless equally mean." Whatever their prowess as poultry farmers, within these pages their sole objective is the extermination of our hero--the noble, the clever, the Fantastic Mr. Fox. Our loyalties are defined from the start; after all, how could you cheer for a man named Bunce who eats his doughnuts stuffed with mashed goose livers? As one might expect, the farmers in this story come out smelling like ... well, what farmers occasionally do smell like.

This early Roald Dahl adventure is great for reading aloud to three- to seven-year-olds, who will be delighted to hear that Mr. Fox keeps his family one step ahead of the obsessed farmers. When they try to dig him out, he digs faster; when they lay siege to his den, he tunnels to where the farmers least expect him--their own larders! In the end, Mr. Fox not only survives, but also helps the whole community of burrowing creatures live happily ever after. With his usual flourish, Dahl evokes a magical animal world that, as children, we always knew existed, had we only known where or how to look for it. Pressestimmen

"This reprint of the 1970 edition tells the story of clever Mr. Fox, his adoring wife, and their four small children, who outsmart three of the nastiest, ugliest, and ultimately dumbest farmers ever to raise poultry. Librarians will want to consider purchasing this newly released edition."--Booklist.

„Fantastic Mr. Fox“ tells the story of how a fox and his family could escape three sinister hunters.

So you might want to know what is so fantastic about this peculiar Mr. Fox? It is…no I will not tell you instead you have to read it.
Mr. Fox lives happily with his wife and their four children under a huge tree . Everyday Mr. Fox goes outside and brings home either chicken, duck, goose or turkey. He finds all the food they need on three farms nearby.
The owners of the farms are Boggis, Bounce and Bean, „…one fat, one short, one lean. These horrible crooks. So different in looks. Were none the less equally mean.“
So Mr. Fox must be really clever to get away with his robberies. „They were not men who like anything to give away.“ and he is until this very day everything goes smooth.
The three men are on the hunt, they want to eliminate the foxes. So they make a plan: dig out the foxes.
First they use shovels and then come the machines and as you might imagine, the foxes will all be dead soon. But then Mr. Fox has a plan of his own. And it is a fantastic one.
In this story like in other Dahl books for children, the sinister characters are especially ugly and nasty and the good ones are of course the opposite. So from the beginning you hope everything will go well for the foxes and I can assure you it will. But in between there are a lot of funny, frightening and exciting moments that you will never forget.
It is a modern fairytale with fantastic characters, fantastic drawings by Quentin Blake and a fantastic plot.
The story was written by Roald Dahl (1916-1990) a former Royal Air Force pilot in the second world war began his writting career soon after the war with stories for kids and for adults. And still today his books are loved.
There is a Roald Dahl museum in London which you should visit. There you can the hut. The placquentin blakes e where Dahl wrote his lovely stories.

When I went to see the movie You've Got Mail with my husband, I was surprised and delighted to see the number of references made to the works of Roald Dahl (including Fantastic Mr. Fox prominently displayed in the Fox bookstore). Dahl is not as well known an author as he should be. Most people know his James and the Giant Peach and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, a few know about The BFG, but Dahl deserves better. This is the author to move kids on to when they graduate from Dr. Suess. His books are imaginative and full of adventure, but beyond that, Dahl has a way of using language that is, to use one of his favorite words, fantastic. A gem, a treasure, a must-read!

The Fantastic Mr. Fox is a strangely funny book written by Roald Dahl. I think Mr. Fox is so smart he could get away with anything he wanted to. The three farmers are mean and extremely stupid! One time, one of the crazy farmers shot off Mr. Fox¹s tail. Ouch! I felt so bad for him. I recommend this book for readers of all ages especially those who have enjoyed other books by Roald Dahl.

The book I think is one of Roald Dahl's best. It is even better than James and the Giant Peach.
