The 2014 Edition of this book includes the latest information about iOS 7 and new types of mobile app management.

Over the past few years, more and more employees have been demanding to do work from mobile devices like iPhones, iPads, and Android phones and tablets. Back in days when BlackBerry dominated the market, dealing with mobility was easy for companies. But today's Android and iOS devices aren't so easy to manage, and the tasks that employees want to do with them far more advanced than what they did in the BlackBerry days.

The enterprise mobility management (EMM) industry has responded with technologies like mobile device management (MDM), mobile app management (MAM), mobile virtualization, app wrapping, “containerization,” and mobile file syncing. All this technology is new, and it’s evolving rapidly. The stakes are high: Thanks to the consumerization of IT, if a company doesn’t figure out how to deal with mobility, users will bring in their own phones and tablets and do whatever they want anyway.

“Enterprise Mobility Management: Everything you need to know about MDM, MAM, and BYOD” is your guide to figuring out how it all works.

In this book, you'll will learn how MDM really works, what it does well, and what its limitations are; why IT’s mindset has to evolve from locking down devices and networks to making data and applications accessible in a safe way; why the real challenge isn’t personal devices, but mixing work and personal apps and data on a single device, regardless of whether they’re personally-owned or corporate-deployed; how mobile app management works, and why (despite challenges) it may be the best approach for keeping corporate data secure; and how future developments could affect approaches to enterprise mobility management.

This book is for people who have been tasked with “figuring out BYOD.” It’s for companies who have only dealt with BlackBerry and BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) for years and want to know what’s next. It’s for desktop admins and architects who are now tasked with delivering applications and data to new platforms. And it’s for the mobile managers who were happy with BES for the past ten years and now have to deal with users bringing in iPhones.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Essential resource for those involved with mobile in the enterprise 7. November 2013

I started a new position this week in the enterprise mobile space. I chose this book from Jack Madden to help me get up to speed on the relevant technologies and issues, and I've been thrilled with that choice. The book has excellent coverage of the iOS and Android platforms. The MDM (mobile device management) capabilities of each are clearly explained. Being new to the space, it became very easy for me to understand the OS internals and how third-party MDM solutions interact with these devices.

Since the book was released before the official release of iOS 7, there are a few details about the new OS which aren't covered in the book. However, the introduction mentions that an update to the book is coming which will address a few of those items. Also, the author's website has some great, recent info on iOS 7 that fills in any gaps.

Beyond the technical, Jack also demonstrates a real understanding of the competing forces at play in the enterprise mobile space: security, legal compliance, management, and end-user expectations.

Overall, I'd say this book has been more than worth the price for getting a good understanding of EMM.

I have just started my job as Enterprise Mobility Consultant, helping customers with MDM, MAM and PIM.
I read this book to get on-board with the whole solution landscape. Its concise and the flow is in a manner that you understand the evolution of MDM/MAM.
I did my first demo to customer of my EMM solution, and I literally used examples/use-cases from the book. It worked since customers can relate to it and they are easy to understand. I am glad I read it before starting my new job (previously I was Data Security consultant).

I would highly recommend this book, its clean, up-to-date and helps you to understand the whole EMM gig.

Much like The VDI Delusion, Enterprise Mobility Management is simply great while NOT being a dull technical read. It's simple enough for a CIO and technical enough for an exchange engineer to appreciate. I look forward to the iOS 7 update.

This is a great book for both people who are just starting with EMM or as a reference for people with experience.

Very easy to understand and explains the high level concepts rather than wasting your time on unimportant details.

I highly recommend it for everyone interested in this field.
