Kurzbeschreibung

Conn Iggulden’s bestselling Emperor series, now in one complete eBook for the first time.

Rome uncovered.

This is the astounding life of Julius Caesar, chronicled here in all five novels from Conn Iggulden’s bestselling and magnificent EMPEROR series.

Iggulden brings to life the glorious, gritty Roman world that held such vast power in its hands. These epic novels brilliantly interweave history and adventure, and expose the ambition and rivalry, bravery and betrayal, all told from one of the most vivid voices in historical fiction today.

HASH(0x9845c81c) von 5 Sternen Gaius Julius Caesar and Rome from 100 BCE until around 30 BCE in living technicolur descriptions: for the best set of the year. 23. Mai 2016

The extraordinarily broad canvas used by this excellent author blends history with historical fiction to such an extent that even an aficionado of Roman history is uncertain of what is relatively hard fact and what is speculation.
The 5 magnificent books take the entranced reader from Gaius Julius Caesar and his friends, such a Brutus from childhood to being young men sent off to Spain. It covers also covers the capture of Caesar, his servitude on Roman pirate vessels and his escape from them. The series also covers Caesar's life as a young man despatched to Further Spain to allow him to cool his heels.
Caesar does no such thing and is busy investigating gold mines in Spain, which he collects for his campaign for high office in Romee if he can buy his way in. With the gold he has collected and the Legions he has trained he returns to Rome and the inevitable consular elections. Fortunately for him' he is able to rely on the affection of his fellow Romans for his murdered uncle former general and Consul Gaius Marius.
Marius was unfortunately entangled with one of Romes most ruthless Consuls who made himself Dictator, the general Sulla. Sula managed to enact a fierce campaign of denunciations of Romans whose property he had formed a desire for. Sulla was able to acquire much property by the process of using informers to allow him to make list of persons whom he proscribed, the object being to have them killed so he could acquire them at bargain prices property.
Caesar is elected Consul, not without a display of largess and is assigned Gaul as his province as governor. His only problem was the millions of Gauls of many races that he has to fight for control of Gaul. He conquered it (or many parts of Gaul) several times but after each conquest parts arose against him.
He took the opportunity to land in England on 2 occasions but was not able to conquer any substantial part and retreat back to Gaul.
There his real fight commenced and several years later ended at the extraordinary battle against Vercingetorix, while at the same time having to defend himself from a 120000 of other Gallic warriors at the mountain fortress of Alesia with Caesar;s forces jammed these Gauls and another 90000 within the fortress itself.which Caesar conquered by the process of a dual circumvallation.
He returned to Rome with Vercingoretex in chains, He was later executed when Caesar had his Gallic triumph.
This series then explores Caesars life until his bad day in the Senate when he was murdered.
He adopted Octavian as his son and settled on the Roman citizenry a huge sum of money, property an income but set aside enough for Octavian to set off on his own as another Caesar
outside The series covers Octavian's progress towards greatness in Rome and culminates after Brutus and Cassius on 1 side meet Octavian and Mark Antony on the other at the battle of Pillipi in Greece.
I vastly enjoyed Roman history on the huge panorama that the author writes on, and highly recommend it to anyone seeking an overview of the Roman Republics fall and the establishment of the Roman Empire.

Enjoyable despite the fact that Caesar life is well known and thus the main facts described in the book are as well their outcome.
Although for someone that knows a more in detail Julis' life is a bit unsettling the way these facts are twisted in the timeline and in some meaningful details for the sake of drama (a very good example is Cornelia's death that in the book departs a lot from reality).

Almost as good as the mongol series, let down a touch by the fifth instalment. Would like a continuation of Augustus rule.
