Kurzbeschreibung

A romance at about 70,000 words.

It’s Christmas time in Ferrier’s Mountain, North Carolina.

Emilie Ferrier wants to adopt a child to fill her empty life. She’s given up any hope of meeting the ‘right’ guy. She can offer a child anything, except two parents.

Nick Garrett owns the mechanic shop that works on Emilie’s cars. He’s fresh out of the military, caring for his niece and nephew following his sister’s tragic death in a car accident. He promised her he would give her children the one thing she and Nick didn’t have: two parents.

Nick doesn’t know that Emilie is the rich woman who wants to adopt his niece and nephew. She invites them to her house for the holidays when she finds out they need a place to stay. Her plan is to convince Nick that she can be a great single mother.

Neither of them plans to fall in love.

Will a Christmas miracle make them a family?

November 2012
Von O. Barnack - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Emilie Ferrier is an affluent, thirtyish single woman who lives with her eccentric aunt in a mansion in a small town named after a prominent family member. She is attractive and lonely, but wary of men. Married once to a fortune hunter she soon divorced. She teaches school to keep busy and have a purpose in life. She seeks to adopt a child, but is rebuffed. A survivor, she turns her attention to work, where she undertakes to help a troubled boy recover from the death of his parents. Soon she meets his guardian, a handsome newcomer to town named Nick who owns and operates a auto repair and towing business. Turns out he is guardian to his nephew and niece and seeking to find a suitable couple to adopt. Sparks fly between Emilie and Nick at first, but it is not easy going in the romance department. He wants his independence, and she wants his kids. What more can one say? All these characters are likeable. Other elements in the novel: Christmastime, a device called a "lover's arm chair," a moonflower, love talk, misunderstandings, a blizzard, a lost child, and much much more than one usually finds in a romance.

What a great story to read for the holidays! It will warm your heart and put you in the holiday spirit. Joyce and Jim Lavene deliver again in this warm, romantic tale of love and hope. With a little sugar and spice added here and there to get everyone's heart pumping! Enjoyed this one very much.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Emilie's Christmas Love 23. November 2012
Von Angela Porter - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
With each book I read by Jim and Joyce Lavene, the more I fall in love with the characters! Emilie wrapped her way around my heart and I fell deeply in love with this story! One of the best Christmas Love stories I have read in a long time! I recommend this book to all my friends and family as well as anyone who is a hopeless romantic around Christmas.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Sweet Story but Major Inconsistencies Took Me Out Of the Story 22. Dezember 2012
Von Brat - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
I thought the premise of this book was sweet. And the story was different enough to keep me reading. However, there were three major inconsistencies that just took me right out of the story. As if two people had the same outline for the story, wrote their own version, then came together to cram all their best bits into one story without ever checking to see if that led to any problems.

I also wonder who the editor was and how he could have read this book and not pointed this out to the writers? If these problems were fixed then I would agree that not only is it good story but also a well written book.

The first inconsistency I found was the age of Amber. When Nick is describing the two children to Emilie in the school room, she asks what the age of the younger child is. He answers just under two years old. Then when Emilie meets Nick and the children in her fortune telling tent she again asks how old Amber is and Nick responds that she is a little over a year old.

I understand that a new father might not know exactly the month down to the day. But surely he realizes that those two time frames are vastly different, especially for a toddler. Considering most parents give the ages in months anyway. So was Amber 16 months old or 22 months old? He was potty training her, had had her for around a year and Adam said she was starting to talk shortly before their parent's deaths. So, I really found this inconsistency annoying, especially because the book was about the adoption and age was important in a way.

The second inconsistency was Emilie telling Nick she could not have children. In her fortune telling tent she comes right out and tells him she can not have children. He even says how sorry he is and tells her she would have made a wonderful mother. Later in the story when Nick shows up with the snow mobile she contemplates telling him she can't have children and worries what he will think. But she already told him. Then at the very end when he proposes she blurts out that she can't have children wanting him to know the worst. Please, someone fix this very crucial point in the story.

The third and last inconsistency was something tiny but still annoying following the other two. Emilie is with Adam when she sees some of Nick's poems and stories. She thinks to herself that they are really good but what does she really know about such things. However, she does know someone whose job it is and that she will call him. This is something special she can do for Nick, she tells herself. Then later in the book she goes into Nick's room, sees his manuscript, reads it, tells herself how good it is and that she knows someone who should see it. Then again tells herself how this can be something special she can do for Nick. Does Emilie have a mental problem where she can not remember what she has said before? I didn't think she did. I think this is just an example of a writer using the same scene again in a book, having forgotten they already used it.

I know some people will think I am being really petty, but these sort of things bug me when I am reading a story and I find myself stopping mid sentence and going back and seeing if in fact I had already read this earlier in the book or if I am going completely crazy.

If this sort of thing does not bother you then you will enjoy this sweet book.

But I beg the authors to take a few minutes and fix these inconsistencies because all in all the story is a really sweet, pleasant read.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A nice romance and story for Christmas and for anytime 6. Dezember 2012
Von Texasrn - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
Although a predictable ending, the characters are so likeable and unusual that the story comes alive and the trip to that predictable ending makes the book special. I get tired of having a beautiful, flawless female lead paired with a handsome rich male lead. This story involves a lead female who believes her disability scars her physically and because of that belief she suffers from much more mental scarring. The lead male is not rich and he is struggling to make a bad situation better. Throw in a few enjoyable side characters and the story becomes delightful.
