Any book that inspires so many reviews and gets so many people thinking about their health deserves at least three stars. According to many of the reviews, the success of a diet book can be gauged on the number of pounds lost since reading it. I read Nutrition for Dummies about a year ago, lost 30 pounds and I feel great! How did I do it? I ate healthy foods, avoided unhealthy foods, and started exercising more. So what about all the popular diet books, including this one? In the words of a now famous and probably quite rich doctor, "Many of these (diet) books are full of bunk and hokum, with a lot of unnecessary rules and regulations." You'll find this on pg. 343 of this book in reference to diet books suggesting you combine certain foods for better digestion. Dr. D'Adamo instead feels that adherence to an extensive list of foods according to your blood type will enable you to avoid many viruses, lose weight, 'fight back' against cancer, heart disease, etc., and 'slow down' the aging process. I give this book three stars because I believe that following this diet will achieve exactly that. I give this book three stars because I also believe that any other book on nutrition will lead to the same results. You'll notice that all these books have the same hidden theme. Eat whole grains, lean meats, vegetables and fruits, beans, nuts; natural and unrefined foods. Avoid double bacon cheeseburgers, fries, milkshakes, Twinkies, ice cream, Snickers, cakes, potato chips, and hot dogs. Stop watching so much T.V. Get off of the couch and get some exercise. I know I'm getting carried away, but do you see the point? It doesn't take a Dr. to figure out how to improve the average American's health.
Keeping all this in mind, this is a brilliant book!

I had heard about the ER4YT book about two years ago and considered it to be a bunch of bunk at the time. Friends told me about it and I didn't even bother to read it before I condemned it. How could I, a Type A, who eats healthily, be told to avoid such delicious foods as whole wheat, tomatoes, mushrooms, potatoes, etc.! The corrleation between food selection, health, and blood type seemed to be complete fiction, especially since I had no health complaints with my current eating patterns.
Well, curiosity got the best of me and a month ago I bought the book version of ER4YT. I was intrigued when two acquaintances related their almost miraculous improvements in their well-being by following Dr. D'Adamo's advice.
My wife insisted I check out the book with our family doctor before I became a fanatic of ER4YT. My doctor was quite dismissive of the whole idea and said that as far as she was concerned there wasn't any research to unequivocally back up D'Adamo's hypothesis. I left her office feeling like I'd just been hoodwinked by another book-fad. For another perspective I called my brother-in-law who has a doctorate in biochemistry and is currently doing research in San Diego in immunology. He said that various lectins are regularly used in his lab to induce tumours in lab animals and that the link between health, cancer, lectins, and blood type is only beginning to be understood. Ah ha!
Anyways, I have read the book and have been on the Type A diet for 2 weeks and these are my impressions:
o the anthropological info is amusing reading but it seems extraneous to the rest of the book
o the chapters on blood type, lectins & diet, cancer, etc.

I'm the eternal sceptic. I've tried different diets based on high carbs., high proteins, constant "grazing", vegetarian, etc. Until I found and researched Dr. D'Adamo's plan did I find something that worked for me. As a biology graduate and a practicing science teacher, I need data and conclusive evidence before I commit to a theory. I tried Dr. D'Adamo's plan based on my 'O' blood type, and within days I felt a deep physiological and mental transformation, which was amazing. For years, I've been conditioned to eating grains, pastas, and dairy products and have always felt "out of it" or constantly not in tune with my body. After being on Dr. D'Adamo's diet for a month now, I've lost 15 lbs. and have not felt this exhilarated since I was an adolescent. I encourage everyone to research the various programs out there and even read the disclaimers about this diet, but keep a open mind and pragmatic view about human physiology, then research and try this diet. It will change your life.

My neighbor was told he may not survive the week as he had an undiagnosed liver problem and almost no red blood platelets. He got three blood transfusions which only helped mildly. He tried the "B Blood Type Diet" and two weeks later is back to normal. Platelet count up to normal, and his liver kicked back into gear. His three year rash is gone as well as his diarrhea of three years. He says he owes it all to this diet! My husband and I now follow it and are doing extremely well. I recommend this book to everyone I care about. I am ordering Cook Right 4 Your Type today as well.
