Platinen bilden das Rückgrat der Elektrotechnik, Elektronik und Computertechnik. Sie nehmen aktive und passive Bauelemente, integrierte Schaltungen und viele mechanische Komponenten auf. Wesentlicher Bestandteil des CAD-PCB-Programms ist der Schaltplan-Editor zum Zeichnen von Schaltungen aller Art, wobei durch die ERC-Funktion (Electrical Rule Check) die Richtigkeit automatisch überprüft wird. Zum Lieferumfang gehört eine Bibliothek mit über 40.000 verschiedenen Bauelementen aus der Elektrotechnik, Elektronik, Computertechnik und Mechanik, sodass optimale Entwicklungsbedingungen vorhanden sind. Fehlt ein bestimmtes Bauelement in der Bibliothek, lässt sich dieses auf einfache Weise mit dem Bauteil-Editor erstellen, wobei neben dem Symbol auch die mechanischen Abmessungen berücksichtigt werden. Mittels des Board-Befehls wird die Schaltung in ein Platinenlayout umgewandelt. Danach lassen sich die einzelnen Bauelemente innerhalb des Platinen-layouts platzieren. Durch den hochintelligenten Autorouter werden anschließend die optimalen Verbindungsleitungen zwischen den einzelnen Bauelementen berechnet und gezeichnet. Mit der auf CD-ROM enthaltenen Software lassen sich ein- und zweiseitige Platinenlayouts schnell und sicher erstellen. Mittels der DRC-Funktion (Design Rule Check) erfolgt eine automatische Platinen- überprüfung dazu, ob Kurzschlüsse oder andere Fehler vorhanden sind.

Das Buch geht an vielen Stellen viel zu oberflächlich auf die Vorgehensweise ein.
Wenn man Eagle erlernen will, Sind die Handbücher die man sich downloaden kann (auch im Freewarepaket mit dabei) wesentlich besser geeignet.
Allerdings geht der Autor relativ ausführlich auf viele weitere allgemeine Aspekte der Platinenfertigung ein - was aber nicht unbedingt Titelthema des Buches ist.
Der reguläre Preis ist definitiv viel zu hoch angesichts des Nutzens.
