Von Parka TOP 500 REZENSENT am 15. Dezember 2011
Format: Taschenbuch
Länge: 1:02 Minuten
I bought this book to help with my outdoor sketches.

The book is roughly divided into three parts. The first talks about the materials. The examples featured mainly uses pencils, ink and watercolour. The second part looks at drawing small subjects like bricks, tiling, textures. The last part explores various building styles.

The coverage on perspective is very basic. There are the usual 1, 2 and 3 point perspective all covered in 6 pages. I was expecting more from a book on buildings. There aren't any tips on dealing with tricky perspective, like drawing buildings with vanishing points off the paper.

There are plenty of drawing tips accompanying the examples. Those are helpful and the techniques are easy to follow.

The downside of the book is it doesn't teach you how to observe proportions, and the examples are mostly on observational drawings. Those with basic drawing knowledge would gain more from this book.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Detailed, Descriptive and Delightful! 12. Februar 2016

Richard Taylor explains in depth and great detail how and why he draws the various sketches, which are many. There are several projects, which he fully explains how he created and completed.
He covers a wide range of drawing materials, including pencils - graphite and coloured, water-soluble; graphite powder; pen line and wash; pen and colour.
I was so impressed with this book, I have since bought 'The Watercolourists's Guide to Painting Buildings' and 'Painting Houses & Gardens in Watercolor' by Richard Taylor, which are both equally excellent with beautiful watercolour illustrations.

2.0 von 5 Sternen same old thing 21. Januar 2010

As an artist who has had the opportunity to study and sell my work in the USA and Europe, I've also had the opportunity to use many references, photos and the like as studies for much of my work as well at the real thing. I don't care for these types of book at all, the are lacking so much, highly recommend the student artist to get out there and see the object for themselves, take a moment to see what you are looking at, find the colors in a cloud and then paint it, allow youself to think, to see, to find. Its not in a book. Go to a park, to the country see it for yourself, paint and draw what you see and feel.
