ABOUT JOSEPH ALTON, M.D. AND AMY ALTON, A.R.N.P. Joseph Alton practiced as a board-certified Obstetrician and Pelvic Surgeon for more than 25 years before retiring to devote his efforts to preparing your family medically for any scenario. He has been a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the American College of Surgeons for many years, served as department chairman at local hospitals and as an adjunct professor at local university nursing schools. He has been a speaker at various survival and preparedness conferences on the subject of medical readiness in austere times. A member of MENSA, Dr. Alton collects medical books from the 19th century to gain insight on off-the-grid medical protocols. Amy Alton is an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner and a Certified Nurse-Midwife. She has had years of experience working in large teaching institutions as well as smaller, family-oriented hospitals. Amy has extensive medicinal herb and vegetable gardens and works to include natural remedies into her strategies. Dr. and Ms. Alton are both Master Gardeners for their state. They also are devoted aqua culturists (currently raising tilapia) and aquaponic, raised bed and container gardening experts. Additionally, they are contributors to magazines like Survivalist and Backwoods Home. As “Dr. Bones and Nurse Amy”, they host a blog and radio program under the Doom and Bloom™ label. Dr. and Ms. Alton are firm believers that, to remain healthy in hard times, we must use all the tools at our disposal. Their goal is to promote integrated medicine; in this way, their readers will have the most options to keep their loved ones healthy in a disaster or collapse situation.

5.0 von 5 Sternen I could not be happier, it is outstanding! 1. Februar 2012
Von TraceMyPreps - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
Dr. Bones and Nurse Amy have written a first of it's kind, an incredible medical reference in the-previously non-existent-category of collapse medicine.

This book is as all-encompassing as I believe it can be. From respiratory infections to fractures to hypothermia to pregnancy and delivery, the chapters and the knowledge continue. There is even a detailed chapter on suturing; including when-and when not-to close a wound. If you can think of a medical problem that you may have to deal with in a collapse, there's information about it in this book and more.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Really a 3.5 star book 2. Februar 2012

I just did the first read through on D&B and it is a good book. There is a great deal of information on herbal pharmacology and the effective use of antibiotics and wound treatment. Where it looses points is on the constant references to other books and youtube videos. I think this book could have been more stand alone given the obvious skill and knowledge of the authors. I would have liked to have seen more on long term care and the austere nature of techniques we would end up using in a post collapse situation. I also think the book could have done without the add for their trauma kit they sell. So while it is a wonderful supplement to whats out there it is not a one stop shop. so 3.5 stars

5.0 von 5 Sternen EXACTLY what I needed 18. März 2012

The wealth of information in this book is astounding. Everything I can think of facing in a "no doctor/dentist" society is covered (short of MAJOR surgeries)- even minor surgical issues (i.e., how to suture). Anything which would require major surgery - well, I may be out of luck - I'm probably not going to be removing an appendix or doing a heart bypass, no matter how many books I read. But anything short of "major" I feel prepared for. Whereas there are references to other books and videos IF you want additional information, it certainly isn't necessary to consult those as well. I think the author references them for those who want to read/see more of the same. To me, this is a stand alone book and I'm going to order more as gifts. Without a doubt, the BEST disaster medical guide I've read.

1.0 von 5 Sternen Not a good choice for the price 10. September 2012

This book has some useful information howeever there is a lot of dead space in the book and a lot of useless information. A better book for a third of the price is Wilderness Medicine Beyond First Aid by Dr William Forgey which is sold on Amazon for $9.36 as of this writing. The most useful information contained in this book is the information on using fish antibiotics for humans but you can download this information from the authors website for free. So if you are looking for a more concise book that has a great deal more information on a multitude of medications and there uses buy Wilderness Medicine from Amazon and save yourself some money. I returned the book for a refund.

This book review has no bearing on Amazon. Amazon is a great place to shop and buy things and has great customer service.

1.0 von 5 Sternen The Name is Misleading - Better Resources Available Free 10. Januar 2013
Von A Clark - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
A former first responder my wife ordered this for me for Christmas knowing the practice of medicine goes beyond basic first aid and even the purview of a nurse. Despite the title, however, this book does not. It is too remedial for those who are knowledgeable in first aid and basic hygiene and those who are not would be better off downloading free resources like 'Where There Is No Doctor' from Hesperian.

Thanks to Amazon's generous return policy I have returned this book for a credit that will be used on things which will actually increase our level of self-sufficiency.
