"Nothing short of masterful.... Sequels are a given, and a must. " -- Los Angeles Times
"A winning debut...that fans of classic mysteries are sure to appreciate." -- Publishers Weekly (starred review)
"Stalwart, often mischevious narrator Chet's amusing, perceptive canine take on [the novel's] human characters should appeal to hard-boiled fans and canine fanciers alike." -- Kirkus Reviews
"[Dog On It] will delight dog-loving mystery readers, but the book is also an excellent PI tale, dogs aside....A great sleuth and always upbeat, Chet may well be one of the most appealing new detectives on the block, but Bernie us a close runner-up. Excellent and fully fleshed primary and secondary characters, a consistently doggy view of the world, and a sprightly pace make this a not-to-be-missed debut. Essential for all mystery collections and for dog lovers everywhere." -- Booklist (starred review)
"At last, a dog lover's mystery that portrays dogs as they really are....Quinn's characters are endearing, and his narrative is intriguing, fast-moving, and well written. Even cat lovers will find it entertaining. [Dog On It] is highly recommend." -- Library Journal (starred review)
"[Dog On It] features the most winning narrator I've come across in a long time...[and] manages to ratchet up some real suspense." -- Christian Science Monitor
"I'm not a dog fancier, but I had a great time reading this book....Chet is a hoot -- or should I say a howl." -- Boston Globe -- Dieser Text bezieht sich auf eine vergriffene oder nicht verfügbare Ausgabe dieses Titels.

What would Bernie Little, a down-on-his-luck Private Investigator do without his associate in affairs, his best friend Chet?
"Who is Chet?" You may ask.
Chet is a member of - how he loves to call it - "the Nation within the Nation".
"And can this Chet-boy give us some further explanation on this Nation-thing?" You may ask.
Oh yes, he can, but You will have some difficulty to understand him.
Easy - because...Chet is a DOG.
And it' s him who is the narrator of all the books, 4 until today, with the Bernie Little Investigation as protagonists.
Chet was an almost completely trained K-9 dog, best leaper of his class, certification prepared, sicure job, but then there was that "incident".
He doesn't like to speak a lot about it, we will only learn that there was a cat involved and some blood, maybe, too...
That was the end of his K-9 career before it had begun.
But then came Bernie, ex-special forces, divorced, one boy-child called Charlie, a Private Investigator with absolutly NO talent to take the Best from his clients - their money.
So Bernie needs urgently and almost always the help from his Best Friend, Chet.
And Chet is more that eager to lend him a helping paw...
In their first adventure together, Bernie and Chet have to investigate the strange disappearance of Madison, a normally well-behaved, gifted student, who didn't come home after school and her divorced mother is very anxious about this. Shortly after Bernie and Chet have taken the job - making money is for some reason our 4-legged hero can't understand very important at this moment - Madison reappears with some story that doesn't fit at all.
And then she's gone for a second time, this time for good - and now Bernie and Chet launch a 360° investigation...
They will soon learn that this is not a case of ordinary kidnapping.
Involved in the very nebulous situation is the father of Madison, who has some bad acquaintances with very, but very very unsavory characters.
Or, how Chet likes to say: Something here smells very, very funny...
Along with the investigation we will come to know Leda, Bernie's Ex-wife, Charlie, his beloved little son who calls Chet "The Jet".
And there along comes Suzie the "Rolling Reporter", too. And Chet will see in her the perfect mate for Bernie.
And the case will be resolved thanks to the special abilities and the highly trained nose of our faithful narrator.
Those who like their crimes not too bloody, but well done, will love this Dynamic Duo.
Like I did, and a lot of other people, too.
The next adventure is titled Thereby Hangs a Tail, Paperback and soon I will devour this book - like Chet his bones and treats.

What makes this book exceptionally entertaining is not only that it's a pretty decent whodunit and written well, but Chet's interpretation of events as they unfold are rarely accurate. He thinks like you'd imagine a dog would. A great deal of funny observations and miscommunication between Bernie and Chet make the story an entire joy throughout the book. The author's first Chet-and-Bernie mystery is a perfect mixture of humor, suspense and tenderness.
Over the past few years, I've read a handful of novels in which the dog is the narrator of the story. While most of them have been enjoyable, 'Dog On It' is by far my favorite. At the time of the writing of this review, Mr. Quinn has published five Chet-and-Bernie books. There are plenty of loose ends about Chet's and Bernie's past that could be expanded in further stories. I for one am most certainly going to read the other novels in this endearing buddy team.
I recommend it if you are looking for a fast-paced, humorous read!
