Im Buch werden alle Wichtigen Themen angeschnitten, Z-Transformation, FIR, IIR Filter, Fourier Analyse. Die Eingangs beschriebene "leichte" Mathematik kann dabei aber leider nicht eingehalten werden. Zum wirklichen Verständnis der Formeln sind Kenntnisse in höherer Mathematik notwendig. Aber auch ohne die Mathematischen Formel zu verstehen, ist das Buch eine Bereicherung und zeigt die Generelle Problematik beim Design digitaler Filter auf.
This book introduces major concepts of digital filters. The author starts with the basics (why should we care about digital filters) and ends up with quite complicated things such as recursive filters. This is an excellent book on introductory/intermediate level. In a short, concise form it explains everything what an average engineer/scientist/student who is not involved into professional development of digital filters needs to know about them. What I liked most about this book is that the presentation of the material is very self-consistent. R.W.Hamming starts with the simplest things and proceeds to the next section only when everything what the reader will need in the following is explained. I think, its an excellent buy, especially for this price.
Digital filters are treated here outside of the box of general filter theory. In particular, there is literaly no need to be familiar with the complex theory of analog filters, the predecesors of digital filters. The phenomenological approach chosen here is likely the one which gives students real chance to grasp immediately the idea of discrete, digital signal filtering and other signal processing operations. Many books on digital filters are in my library. However, the one written by Hamming is very exceptional. In a good sense of the word.
