- Bewertet in Deutschland am 23. Mai 2015Exceptional, fast paced and well written. Can`t wait for the next book. Richard Philips created a quite unique story line for the Rho Agenda books. And Jack is one of the most interesting characters I have seen in a very long time. Intriguing idea to mix science fiction with special forces action, these books are hard to put down. The AI we meet in this story is a next step in development well thought over. Advanced like this it supposedly will only appear for real in another 50 or 100 years, but who knows, it might be sooner. However, you cannot help to be fascinated by it. In some way, we see the hackers dream come true: not just hack the system from the outside, but become part of it by becomming the AI itself. Manipulating by thought, not keyboard. Scary, but fascinating none the less. What will be the most interesting to see in the coming books is how the author will bring all these story lines together. As I said before, Can`t wait!
- Bewertet in Deutschland am 9. Oktober 2020Superb story teller and at a furious pace. On to the next one already.
Hard to put down once you started.
Thank you
- Bewertet in Deutschland am 6. November 2016There is something which develops through all three books.
Each book has its own story, but you really should read them in order.
The stories in the books are really different, not as in many series, where each book is the same again. (Which sometimes is what you like)
The protagonist(s) is (are) working for the NSA (USA), at least... kind of.
The main story in each book is always towards something big and interesting.
There is a lot of action. And the action is good to read. The rest is good to read too.
This is not a "have to" read, but I read all three books in one go.
- Bewertet in Deutschland am 16. Oktober 2015Weakest of the three books, somehow the link between yesterday, today and tomorrow not convincing. Outcome of too many encounters between agents and criminals predictable.

JackieBewertet in den USA am13. Juni 20155,0 von 5 Sternen Aren'tchu glad to know Anchanchu?
I discovered author Richard Phillips in reading the Rho Agenda trilogy, and he has become a favorite of mine. He followed the Rho Agenda with a prequel trilogy called the Rho Agenda Inception, to give the background of CIA operatives Jack and Janet and the rising threat of a powerful artificial intelligence falling into the hands of a hostile Chinese government. Dead Shift is the sixth and finest book yet in the Rho story line.
The action begins immediately and never lets up. You don't want to miss one page as the plot swerves and the surprises unfold! Finally Jack establishes contact with the mysterious Anchanchu--a "presence" who inhabits Jack's mind and fights to control Jack's will. He is able to forge an agreement that gives him some sovereignty over his emotions and will. Through all the relentless action, the characterization is so strong that the reading experience is fantastic! It's a totally satisfying culmination of the Inception phase of the Rho Agenda. What's even better is that the author will soon release more of the story with the Rho Assimilation! I hope it never ends! To read them in the order they were released, here are the first six titles: 1-The Second Ship, 2-Immune, 3-Wormhole, 4-Once Dead, 5-Dead Wrong, and 6-Dead Shift. That brings you up to date and will leave you eagerly anticipating the next phase, called the Rho Assimilation.

Guy Marc GAGNEBewertet in Kanada am 23. Juni 20154,0 von 5 Sternen Consistently good
Super duper killer agent is in action reunited with his main squeeze...
That's the standard back-story
The twist is the insightful and credible depictions of the characters within the story.
We are sufficiently familiar with the cast to appreciate the subtleties inherent to each
allowing for some latitude in events and how they unfold.
We are thankfully, not subjected with rigid stereotypes
Hey, we are entering the realm of sci-fy with a significant peek into extra dimensional sidebar.
Things could get interesting in the spaced-out settling of account department...!?

CathyBewertet in Großbritannien am 10. Juni 20155,0 von 5 Sternen Non stop action
Jamal Glover is the best of the NSA’s elite team of hackers, known as the Dirty Dozen, who work in the War Room at the NSA headquarters, keeping the country safe from cyber attacks and a lot more besides. Nineteen years old and straight out of MIT, Jamal loves his job. He also loves his girlfriend, Jill, and is on his way home to have dinner with her. What awaits him will change his life and if the Chinese government’s plans succeeds it will spell disaster and the threat to humanity will be immense and devastating.
Jack, Janet and the NSA’s special force, the ‘ghost’ team, are called in to rescue Jamal and stop the advancement of a powerful artificial intelligence initiated by the Chinese spy, Qiang Chu, and Steve Grange, a multi millionaire pioneer in medicine, more specifically brain surgery. He has an agenda of his own which involves his long dead wife.
With non stop action, teamed with treachery, death and destruction, the ghost team are up against an adversary like no other.
Jack battles against, and slowly gains more and more control over, the demon, Anchanchu. Jack’s dreams that aren’t really dreams, but more like detailed memories that are not his own, become more vivid and harder to shake off. Eventually he and Anchanchu come to an agreement on a subconscious level. This is the first time Anchanchu has been able to form any kind of communication with his host during the many centuries past.
Dead shift completes Jack Gregory’s and Janet Price’s back story with an incredibly tense and suspenseful narrative that shows the demon inhabiting Jack’s mind is not at all what it first seemed. As the surprising information regarding Anchanchu’s true nature increases it’s very satisfying to finally know how this, and some events during the preceding books, tie into to Jack and Janet’s involvement in the Rho Agenda.
Exploring the concept of artificial intelligence technology is incredible and terrifying and the extremely dangerous belief that software and machines could be created with independent intelligence is taken a step further in this gripping story. Very skilfully written and thought through, with a substantial number of facts to give much credibility. A tight plot plus the addition of convincing and strong characters, make this a terrific action/sci-fi thriller. I love Richard Phillip’s writing style, with short chapters alternating between the different perspectives and storylines. MacLeod Andrews’ narration is just right and faultless as always, giving the narrative extra impact.
