In Daisy Miller Henry James created his first great portrait of the enigmatic and dangerously independent American woman, a figure who would come to dominate his later masterpieces.

Oscar Wilde called James's chilling The Turn of the Screw 'a most wonderful, lurid poisonous little tale'. It tells of a young governess sent to a country house to take charge of two orphans, Miles and Flora. Unsettled by a sense of intense evil within the houses, she soon becomes obsessed with the belief that malevolent forces are stalking the children in her care.

Über den Autor und weitere Mitwirkende

Henry James was born in 1843 in New York and died in London in 1916. In addition to many short stories, plays, books of criticism, autobiography and travel, he wrote some twenty novels, the first published being Roderick Hudson (1875). They include The Europeans, Washington Square, The Portrait of a Lady, The Bostonians, The Princess Casamassima, The Tragic Muse, The Spoils of Poynton, The Awkward Age, The Wings of the Dove, The Ambassadors and The Golden Bowl.

A must have if you like Henry James. The only thing I didn't like is the material used for the cover. It is of a very raw material and it can get damage really easy.

Nulla da dire sulla bella edizione Penguin. In quanto ai racconti, per gusto personale non mi sono piaciuti molto. 'Daisy Miller' mi è parsa una storia qualunque; nonostante i significati che il racconto può avere, mi è sembrato comunque un racconto senza 'verve'. 'The Turn of the Screw', invece, ha degli elementi interessanti e inquietanti, ma lo stile smorza questi effetti. Si tratta infatti di una prosa che toglie l'immediatezza al discorso parlato, perché cerca sempre di offrire una spiegazione del pensiero della narratrice e degli eventi che accadono. Questo è dovuto anche al fatto che il racconto è stato pubblicato a puntate, per cui la vicenda doveva probabilmente essere tirata avanti per un certo numero di uscite: la necessità di 'allungare' la storia, secondo me, si percepisce spesso e va a discapito della suspense che il racconto, altrimenti, avrebbe saputo creare. Il finale, al contrario, l'ho trovato un po' troppo 'abrupt', come se l'autore dovesse tagliare corto sull'ultimo capitolo.

Las 4 estrellas son para el producto que ha llegado muy bien en perfecto estado. Edición muy bonita con buen tamaño de letra.
La modalidad de entrega muy mal.
Estamos en periodo de confinamiento por Covid-19, el repartidor iba sin guantes ni mascarilla. Muy mal.

For anyone who likes a "floppy" book and beautiful font inside this is the book for you. I absolutely love the Penguin English library series and am slowly but surely gathering them all together. Just one negative is that there isn't more as I just love them!

Have just finished reading 'daisy miller' and enjoyed it. I love the books from this penguin collection, they are very pretty to look at and very good quality. The book was delivered on time and in suitable packaging.
