Diva is another fast paced, exciting mystery from the writer of Absolution, Susan Fleet, one of today's best story tellers. Again featuring Detective Frank Renzi, a post-Katrina New Orleans cop, this story deals with Belinda Scully, an international virtuoso flute soloist who is being stalked by a psychotic serial killer.
Well developed characters as well as a wonderful sense of place are some of the outstanding assets of this book. You feel that you really experience New Orleans in the same kind of way that you feel about Robert B. Parker's Boston.
I found myself reading it slower and slower by the end of the book in order to stretch it out. That it something I rarely do - only when I really enjoy a book. Highly recommended!

New Orleans Police Detective Frank Renzi is back in DIVA, a fast paced, gritty suspense thriller from author Susan Fleet. Fleet's intimate knowledge of the music world and sharp characterizations make her second book an intriguing follow-up to her first novel, ABSOLUTION. Enjoy!

4.0 von 5 Sternen I have read some of the reviews about there being bad language and sex in the story 9. Juli 2014

This story will hold your attention from page one to the end. It is a chilling story of how a stalker can really obsess over someone and go on a killing streak at the same time. With "Barry" anyone who does not agree with him, or gets in his way, gets killed. I have read some of the reviews about there being bad language and sex in the story. Well yes there is but one has got to understand that the bad language is from "Barry" almost completely. Yes, his language is also crude, but he is a demented stalker so what do you expect, gentleman manners?

Except for some typos, this story is well written, flows smoothly, and is easy to understand. The story is rough in the sense it is depicting a stalker/killer, but it s fairly accurate in how they can get and the stress the detectives go through during a case. For Frank Renzi, he can't rest easy until he catches the bad guy.

The characters are well written, real, and easy to understand, except of course for :Barry". I can never understand why someone like that does what he does.

Belinda is a very talented flutist. She is a Diva and her career is her main reason for living. She is famous world wide, but fame can be dangerous. An armed ex-military man is after her. This stalker will do anything it takes to have her, blackmail, kidnapping, or murder. All this he does in the name of 'love'. When Belinda rejects him, he is stunned and vows revenge. He kidnaps her and terrorizes her. Detective Renzi must find Belinda and save her. Can he do it?

As I said above, there is very bad language and sex in this story, but I do recommend it highly. I feel it is an accurate depiction of what goes on with a stalker and what police go through. It also shows what the victim goes through.

I would recommend it for ages 18 on up.

5.0 von 5 Sternen THRILLING MYSTERY 21. November 2014
Von Dorothy Gagnon - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

Belinda was an up & coming concert musician, who came with her manager, Jake, to see Frank Renzie, a detective on the New Orleans Police Force, to report someone trying to kill Belinda. Frank began to investigate only to learn this was not the first incident Belinda received. Why would anyone want to hurt this attractive, gifted musician and for Frank, working now on several cases by a serial killer, couldn't allow himself romantic feelings for Belinda. His focus must be not only her case but to work closely with his partner, and Kelly, his female detective friend, to solve all these cases.

Belinda had more incidents, and then a frantic call from Belinda about Jake, led him to believe he was close to catching the killer. Could he and his team solve both cases? Would he keep from getting involved? Great suspense and excitement builds while the powerful dynamics escalate for a fantastic mystery.

Pretty much everything you want in a thriller: beauty and the beast, a good cop, a sexy cop, mayhem, a totally twisted psycopath, gun battles, old scars, a diva-of course, a showdown and new beginnings. You'll like it.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Good read 25. März 2013

Being the best at something can leave an artist more alone than a single resident of a tropical island. Belinda Sculley was such a person. Without family and only her career to focus on, she has become an island to herself. The only person in her life she truly interacted with is her manager. And that was more of a parent-child relationship. Belinda playing the part of the child.

When her life is reduced to a series of near misses she ends up hiring the cause of all her problems as personal driver and security. He's her best fan....OMG. Obsessive doesn't even come close to describing the man who ends up as her protector. But he takes liberties and he is fired. He doesn't take it well and he causes more pain.

Meanwhile, Belinda becomes infatuated with Frank, a cop investigating the threats. He is oblivious to her attention while he investigates the death of a 15-year old kid he felt personally responsible for. New Orleans is a great backdrop for the story of drugs, gangs and guns.

While you read the story, Belinda is a whiner who thinks the world revolves around her. As her world crumbles, she realizes Frank is not really what she wants. She learns what's really important, self-reliance. When she faces death, she even attempts to bargain for the life of Franks lover, Kelly.

I like the characters. Frank is a little jaded and Kelly, realizes she not cut out for homicide with all the carnage caused by Belinda's fan. Belinda becomes a person that is more rounded and less focused on her career.

All in all, the writer gives the reader a glimpse of growth realized by the characters. Diva was well written, using a language that provides a glimpse into life on the seedier side of New Orleans. Worth the time to read. I think I'll be checking out other books by the author.
