Kurzbeschreibung

Kirkus Reviews says DESIRE is "The first book in a fantasy romance series featuring a heroine who must choose between two very different men and two very different destinies."

5 out of 5 Stars - "Very sweet, lovely story about an eighteen year old girl Kama who lives in a perfect, settled future with a perfect boy, Liam, soon to be her future husband. However, her world turns upside down when an enchanting, desireable boy Torrid appears in her life" - Xandra, TV News Anchor at TV Zemst

5 out of 5 Stars - "I haven't seen any Paranormal Dystopians before, so this book felt so refreshing and unique. I devoured this book entirely too quickly, and the sequel is not out when it should be :( (apologies for the whining, this book was really that good)" - Amy, The Bookmark

5 out of 5 Stars - "I know I say this alot but WOW. Desire was so much more than the dystopian YA romance...A must read that all YA fans will love." - Laura, YA Indie Princess

5 out of 5 Stars - "When I picked up desire I was expecting the usual dystopian fare but what I got instead was an intriquing world that immediately fascinated me!" - Kristi, Book Faery

If it were possible I would award this novel no stars, but ten lavishly decorated cupcakes with lavender icing instead. At least it is certainly nice to know, that in 998 years from now (3010) people still are driving around in Porsches, drink cherry soda and coffee, eat burgers, pizza and spaghetti. The novel could not weave its magic for me. It lacks a "degree of reality" (which even the coffee couldn't re-introduce, quite the contrary). The often pompous and deliberately old-fashioned language cannot gloss over what the author lacks in skill to describe real people, real emotions and feelings. Kailin Gow and fans: Please forgive me, but I consider this book a waste of time and money.

3.0 von 5 Sternen A nice story but so many errors 29. Juli 2012
Von Sonya Gilb - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
The premise of this book was interesting and original, but there seemed to be many grammatical and small plot errors (some may not mind, but these just make it difficult for me to appreciate the writer's craft). At one point Kama is sitting in the cafeteria talking with two old friends (Jocelyn and Matthew)about Jocelyn's sister, Melanie. In the next line, Kama "takes Melanie's hand" which is bizarre as Melanie is certainly not in the room. The relationship between Torrid and Kama seems a little too quick, and its a bit irritating the way that Kama (at age 18) jumps from imagining her life as the mother of Liam's children, then Torrid's. It's also a bit disappointing that when Torrid reveals the master plan that Kama is to follow, Kama doesn't really question the horrible thing she is supposed to do or ask to hear it from her father himself- she just accepts it.

As I mentioned at the beginning of this review, I do like like the ideas set out in this book. I just wish that the author had found a better editor.

2.0 von 5 Sternen Why did I waste my money? 5. Januar 2012
Von Joni - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

I read Desire based on all of the great reviews, and also, because I've been really into dystopian books lately. I've read the Hunger Games, Divergent, and Delirium all recently, and maybe that's why this one was such a disappointment for me. It just can't compare to those awesome books.

The premise of Desire caught my interest; it's pretty similar to the book Matched, but had a magical aspect that set it apart. My biggest complaint is the writing. The dialogue was contrived and unnatural, and so were the scenarios. It just didn't flow well at all. And it was very cliched. How many times do I have to read about a beautiful girl who has two gorgeous guys fight over her? It's so overdone and isn't interesting anymore.

My other problem with Desire was the big secret about Kama. I won't give anything away, but it was so ridicules, I couldn't help but laugh. It's like finding out that Edward from Twilight isn't a vampire but a leprechaun. I did finish Desire, so it wasn't completely terrible, but I wish I wouldn't have wasted my money.

Desire was just an okay story. It was a pretty predictable and shallow story line with average characters.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I first opened this book up,a typical dystopian book I suppose, and while I did get that I also got a love story with a slight paranormal aspect as well.
While there are editing errors throughout the book that are slightly distracting the sweet love story and life of Kama more than makes up for it. I am a sucker for a good love triangle and Gow seems to be the master at making them and she didn't disappoint. While I loved Liam, I felt myself rooting for Torrid as well.
I think this new series has a lot of potential. It is a fast easy read that will leave you wanting more and wanting to find out what happens next to Kama, Torrid, her mother, her mysterious father, Pim, The Catchers, The Magical Ones, Sarah and to Liam.

1.0 von 5 Sternen What did I just read? 1. April 2012
Von ThomsonElizabeth - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

It seemed like an interesting topic, although the dystopian trend is becoming tiresome. Chapters 1 and 2 were fine, nothing special, but sweet and kind exposition, but after Chapter 4, I was done. The whole thing was just Kama obsessing about her "perfect boyfriend," when someone mysterious just happens to show up and muck up her "perfect life." Kama, a girl with no particular talents or anything to offer other than her good looks and "blonde hair with a tint of violet," is treated like a princess by everyone. It's pretty ridiculous, and even for a book set in the future, highly unrealistic.

The writing was childish as well, my personal favorite line was "A shot of electricity shot through me." Seriously? Has the author ever heard of elegant variation? And what was her editor thinking, letting that line go untouched. The whole thing read like some 6th grader's fantasy of what they would like their life to be after they've gone through their gawky middle school years -- perfection with terrible writing skills.

I know this book only cost $4.39 on my Kindle, but I can seriously think of better things to spend five dollars on, so if you have an IQ and some type of taste for good writing, do yourself a favor and read someething else.
