4.0 von 5 Sternen Very interesting ides, but for a limited subject range 21. Dezember 2013
Von Mark Schupack - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
As stated by the other reviewers, the book is packed with numerous ideas and suggestions leading to better photos. However, the discussion is all directed towards the author's special area of photography: fashion. For those who have this specialty, this is an invaluable guide. But how useful is the book for those who take very different kinds of photos? I did a quick (and rather arbitrary analysis) of the projects to see how match of the discussion could be transferred to other types of subject matter. My judgment was that 20 (of the 52) projects could be adapted by those shooting any subject matter. Twelve more might be useful with some further work, and 20 seemed remote from any field outside of fashion. Others may very well make different judgements about where to place each assignment. The conclusion seems to stand, however: the direct usefulness of this volume will depend upon the details of the subject matter at which you are directing your camera. All photographers, however, can appreciate in general terms the kind of analyses being done in the book even if not directly related to their work.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Lindsay Adler Creative 52 20. Oktober 2013
Von fotogirl - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

This is an excellent and well written book! Lindsay Adler gives great tips on weekly projects that spark creativity. All of the chapters are easy to understand, and I like the way she added camera info, as well as the methods she used to create the images. I also liked the way she spoke about the inspiration of each photo. I've been following Lindsay's work for a couple of years now, and was happy to see her beauty retouching techniques nicely laid out in it's own chapter. Before, I was frantically taking notes on her live demonstrations, but now I have it all at hand. Thank you Lindsay, this is just what I needed to spark my creativity!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Wonderful book marrying technique with creative inspiration - this is what modern photographic education should be about 6. Dezember 2013
Von harrypottersdad - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
There aren't many in the professional photography field that do what Lindsay does. She basically is able to conceive highly creative projects, work out how to execute them (the right lighting, set, location, design, all the photographic principles/rules she follows and/or breaks, directing her subjects) and then finishes everything off with expert post processing.

Not only does she do all of these elements well, she teaches them brilliantly too. A good photographer and a good teacher of photography (like most pro's who teach anything to anyone) can often be mutually exclusive but Lindsay understands her audience and cuts through all the jargon to give us simple, bite sized brilliant little tid bits to inspire us and push us along.

Not only does the book do this, it also provides her own voice - her inspirations (she name drops all of them throughout, giving us reams and reams of additional, insightful research material) she also talks to us about her life, what resonates with her (like the chapter on photographing someone close to us and not waiting to do so - and her example of her grandmother). This is what is so great about the book - we actually get to understand how she thinks and we can then begin to apply that to our own work.

The professional photography field can be dominated by people who prefer technicals, jargon, numbers and expensive gear over those that are at the opposite end - those who talk about inspiring us, developing us creatively, but leave us a little empty with the actual "how-to" or with enough detail to empower us to go off and do it. Lindsay happily moves about from both ends of this spectrum and continually sits in the middle of someone supremely technical, but able to distill things down to appeal to our inner creative desires.

This is a rarity and Creative 52 is the epitome of this rare ability.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Projects to develop your style and portfolio 12. November 2013
Von Ravens Path - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
Lindsay Adler's book "Creative 52: Weekly Projects to Invigorate Your Photography Portfolio" is an engaging and educational look at ways to expand your portfolio and skills. She shares her creative process and breaks down 52 projects into three different categories, Concepts, Techniques and Post-Production. Each section is designed to help you develop a certain set of photographic skills.

Each of the projects is also broken down into sections. Description-where the overall project is described. Inspiration-where the author shares the photographers that inspired her for this project are shared, and the reasons why. My Solution- where Lindsay talks about the image that is connected to the project and how she developed the idea behind it. Each picture also has the metadata included which is a plus.

I will be going back to this book over and over as I continue to develop my photographic style and skill.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A superb, inspiring book! 11. Dezember 2013
Von vb - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
This is a must read book (primarily) for the studio photographer. Adler offers a superb selection of different, highly creative approaches to image-making with an emphasis on studio compositions/lighting. Each chapter also includes an "Artists to Check Out" section which will lead you explore the work of other fine photographers. The book is very well-written and Adler demonstrates a refined skill as a teacher. (Check out her various video tutorials.) I consider it one of the finest and most inspiring books on technique that I have read. It can't fail to elevate your work and inspire you to explore alternative, creative paths.
